In line with the CineTV Twitter Prompt, the last movie I watched yesterday was My Spy (2020) and I was charmed all through. Being a spy/comedy movie, it's the perfect one for a family to relax and enjoy some reprieve from the troubles of the real world.

Imagine a soldier who had served in the military (Special Ops) for some years trying to change his career and become a spy? Yes, that's what you are in for when you decide to watch this hilarious, heart-warming movie.

This movie features Dave Bautista as a tough former Army Ranger working with the CIA placed on an undercover assignment to watch a mother and her 9-year-old daughter (played by Chloe Coleman). You think it's a simple assignment and nothing can go wrong until this tough, muscled spy meets the brilliant 9-year-old!

But I did mention it's a comedy. The humour in this movie is a result of this tough, sturdy spy teaching a smart nine-year-old girl to become a spy as well!

I enjoy action/spy movies and when there's comedy mixed in, it's perfect for me. My Spy is a movie you can watch safely and comfortably with children without worrying about parental guidance. The film director, Peter Segal, is also the brain behind the hilarious spy/comedy Get Smart (2008) featuring Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway. I see the similarities between these movies and commend the director for a good job.

I laughed all through the 1 hour and 40 minutes as the stern-looking, tough spy tried to outwit a very intelligent nine-year-old girl. Who would expect that Dave Bautista would successfully act a comedy role and be good at it? I loved his rapport with Chloe Coleman. He's like a father figure to her. The young girl changes this tough man's outlook on life and he becomes kind, funny and a little laid back.

I find the scene where Dave tries to teach Chloe how to lie with a straight face and she ends up doing it perfectly such that he almost believed her hilarious. Another scene I found touching was when Chloe blackmailed Dave to attend school with her as her 'special friend'.

Her classmates came along with their parents but Chloe's mother was busy at work to attend. Dave went with her and portrayed her in a good light before her classmates. Her bullies turned to become her friend. It was an 'awww' scene and anyone would admire Dave's courage. I'll say the blackmailing worked out well for both actors.

The cinematography, acting and directing were sound in my opinion. I love Chloe Coleman and I think she's shaping up to be an excellent actress.

In conclusion, even though some of the scenes in this movie are predictable like some similar spy movies, it's still humorous and entertaining. I'll rate it 4.5 stars out of 5 and recommend this to anyone who wants a good laugh.
