Korean Movie Review - The Villainess

Oh, my! What a start to the day.

It just happened that I woke up this day with a fairly understandable desire to watch a quick movie before jumping into the things I have for the day. Haha. Can you believe it?

I don't mind starting my day with this, so I checked my watchlist and decided to watch Villainess, an action-packed Korean Movie. I just finished watching it a few hours ago before jumping in to write this, so be assured that what you will be reading is a very fresh review. Hehe.

One thing I must say before I go further is that I rate this as a PG-18 movie. The brutality level is raised beyond 100% and most of the action scenes are executed in a very glaring way. Bones cracked. Blood was spilt. Flesh got torn to shred. Haha.

Those that have watched Raid know how the kills were brutally executed. Well, our female lead in this Kdrama does it even better. Haha.

If you can cope with all that, you will surely love to watch this.

The opening sequence is enough to captivate your whole attention.

The opening sequence started with a very satisfactory fight between 'a lady' and dozens of guys. She had no room for sympathy and she was not concerned about taking prisoners. Everyone that came face-to-face with her died within seconds.

Every shot she took with her gun and every cut she made with her blade was done with a raw thirst for blood.

One of the things I find interesting about the opening sequence is the positioning of the camera and the fast-paced action that was captured. For lack of a better term, the first 3 minutes of her fight were shot like 'a video game'. Only her hands and legs were displayed by the camera.

The focus was on her opponents until the position of the camera got transitioned to a full-body shot of the lady. I love that. What they did with the editing of the sequence is very satisfactory.

Immediately after the opening fight of the movie, I became reassured that starting my day with this was a very good idea.

Movie Trailer

Plot Synopsis

This tells the story of a Killer who wanted a different life for herself after discovering that she is pregnant. She got into a contract with Korea's Intelligence Agency which will guarantee her a clean start after 10 years of service.

She gave birth to a baby girl while undergoing further training in the secret service, got married afterwards and was just beginning to fit into a new life when her past caught up with her when during one of her assigned missions.

The theme

You may things it's all about fighting from beginning to end. I wouldn't mind that either, but barring the fighting scenes, this is a movie that will still keep you captivated from start to finish.

The theme touches on revenge, betrayal and love. The build-up to the story is quite interesting. I love the story development.

My rating for this is a solid 9/10.

N.B: Feel free to mention me whenever you watch and write a review of this movie or any Koteab movie or Korean drama. Hehe. Let's connect 🙂.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma
