The Hong sisters calls 'Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow' a wrap.

Alchemy of Souls is one of the highly rated Kdramas that graced the big screen in 2022. The show got so much attention to the point that I had to break my habit of waiting till the whole episode is released before binge-watching any Kdrama. It was impossible to wait. I jumped on this and my worst fear happened.

You see, Kdramas are not usually Known for having multiple seasons. We get one full season with as many as 50 episodes and we go all in until the whole episodes are released, but Alchemy of Souls didn't follow that pattern. The cliffhanger in the last scene of the first season made it obvious that another season is underway. Lolzzzzz. I was gutted.

Thankfully, we didn't have to wait for years to get the second season. The second season started airing 3 months later, from December 10, 2022 - January 8, 2023. This time around, I decided to hold my curiosity together until the whole episode gets released. Now, let's skip to the important part;

I finally got to see Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow, the second season of the show.

Oh, my world!

The first set of people I have to commend about the overall performance of this show are the scriptwriters, Hong Jung-Eun and Hong Mi-Ran, popularly known in the industry as The Hong sisters.

These sisters have been doing a really good job with their scripts and their track record is a testament to that. Alchemy of Souls is not an exception. I'm very realistic when I watch shows, so I know that all shows do not deserve a happy ending. Nonetheless, I can't think of a handful of stories that deserves a happy ending than the story in Alchemy of Souls.

I was not sure how a happy ending was ever going to be fitted into the story without making it distasteful, but the Hong sisters did what they do best. They gave us a masterpiece and I love it.

While the Hong sisters deserve all the applaud that is being accrued to them, I feel that the success of the second season has a lot to do with the casted female lead, Ko Yoon-Jung.

Yoon-Jung came into this project with a tough job and high expectations from everyone. She was to replace Jung So-Min who did an amazing job as the female lead in the first season of the show. So-Min already captivated the heart of all fans with her performance in the first season, so the shoe that Yoon-Jung was expected to fill was a huge one.

To be fair, I'm one of those that got sneery when I heard that a different female lead would be cast for the second season. I never thought she would be able to do half the job that was expected of her, yet I've never been happier to be proven wrong. Yoon-Jung crossed all the 'T's and dotted all the 'I's. I'm so proud of her.

For those that are interested in stats, it would interest you to know that this show has a solid 9/10 average rating across several streaming platforms. That's something to be taken note of.
