A Few Songs From Films/ TV Shows (TTT)

For this week I decided to go for a couple of songs and artists that I discovered from TV Shows, or movies over the years.

Norma Tanega - You're Dead

This song is really good, and I think from those first few opening notes it's enough to mesmerise the listener and get them hooked; well, that's what happened for me anyway.

I first heard this in the film, What We Do In The Shadows, which is a vampire flick shot like a documentary. It was released in 2011 and from there, an American TV show was spawned, which I have only seen the first couple of episodes of and have been meaning to go back to it.

First, there is an opener of the film which introduces us to the characters and the house they all live in, but once they're introduced and the film starts, the credits roll accompanied by this song.

Now, I don't think the song is intended to be about Vampires, but it works so well as part of it.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Free Bird

I think I heard this song before watching The Devils Rejects, but now that I think about it, I can't be sure if I did or not, so I'm going to say that I was first introduced to this song by that film.

The Devil's Rejects is a great film Directed by Rob Zombie and is a loose sequel to another film by him, House of A Thousand Corpses. The Devil's Rejects follows a family who are the biggest scumbags imaginal, they're psychotic hillbilly killers, and they're the most lovable people ever. By the end of the movie, you can't help but root for them, as they try to get away from the law and go continue on with their wicked ways.

Here's a scene with the dad of the family, Captain Spaulding (Sid Haig) who needs to commandeer a vehicle so he can meet up with his kids, who are on a rampage of their own. He's one of my favourite characters in the film, but each one of the shine through the runtime.

If you haven't seen or heard of this film watch it, you don't need to watch House of A Thousand Corpses, I didn't on my first viewing of The Devils Rejects and you don't miss anything by not watching the first film because this one is just fine as a standalone movie.

Jefferson Airplane - Somebody To Love

This song is really good, and it's actually one I tried to learn on the bass to perform with the cover band, but I just couldn't get the hang of it. I didn't think it would be such a tricky song, but it really is. We ended up settling for White Rabbit, which is a tricky one, but certainly not as tough.

I remember this from The Cable Guy, which is one of those movies I've watched so much, and quoted with mates of mine a lot over the years.

Somebody To Love works so well in that movie, during the karaoke scene, and Jim Carry's performance is amazing in it, with all the exaggerated facial expression.

Free Bird is one of those songs you stumble upon in different ways. Whether It is through Guitar Hero, The Devil's Rejects or other types of media, You'll end up hearing It and being impressed by the solo of the latter part.

"It's the summer of love baby" That's the phrase I remember the most from The Cable Guy. A great comedy movie that is really underrated.

"Am I really your buddy?" Haha, Cable Guy is such a great film, it wouldn't be the same without Jim Carrie

Free Bird is such a great song, it's like 8 minutes long, but it never feels like it.

True. It even makes a great commentary about people's dependence on media for entertainment.

Now that I think about It, I remember another scene from a popular show (The 70s Show). In 7x10 Eric says "And you put on Freebird, 'cause we're gonna do It for 13 minutes".

The voice in Somebody to love sounds like Whitney Houston...lol
They all are interesting songs...
