Myself And A Friend Decided To Make A Podcast

Today was the first recording we've done for a podcast me and a friend have wanted to do for a while; we recorded it over skype and decided to do it using video, instead of the original idea, which was to do it with just sound.

We had some issues with skype, namely adding each other, which must have taken about 40 minutes, but then we finally got it sorted out. Then I was trying to set up OBS to record it, but couldn't make it only record skype, we got around that by just recording the screen and then waiting a moment while I switched back to Skype before speaking.

Finally, after some messing around and testing, we were finally ready to go, throughout the entire episode, which is about one and a half hours, his camera would freeze occasionally, so there will plenty of footage to cut out of the finished piece. I'd say of the one and a half hours, we'll end up with an episode of around forty-five minutes - sixty minutes. That's the plan anyway.

Background
The two of us met in college, as we were both studying film production at the time. I started in 2015 which is the year I met him, and as I was in first year, he was in his third year. But, we remained friends ever since, often speaking online over a headset playing Xbox.

Content of The Show
It is going to be centred around film and tv, but also about games and in general just things we're interested in. More so film production and the idea of this episode came about while we were speaking about Star Wars - something we each have a passion for.

After a quick introduction, we jumped right into it, speaking about all sorts with plenty of little tangents, namely, we speak about CGI and special effects and how these days there is an over-reliance on it, but from there we bounce around a fair bit talking about multiple films and franchises, before hitting Star Wars.

I've wanted to do a podcast for some time now, and never really got around to making one, for one reason or another. The biggest reason was; I didn't want to do it alone. I think I could, but having someone there to bounce ideas off and chat with, IMO would be better and maybe more entertaining.

Often times when I'm on my own and thinking or daydreaming, I say to myself. "God, if I set up the mic and just spoke this stuff out it could be good." The issue with that is the awkwardness of talking to yourself.

When I first started a twitch stream I had to force myself to speak out what I was thinking, while I was live, regardless if anyone is there or not. The reason behind this mindset is; if someone joins the stream halfway through, and you're just there silently playing the game, the viewer may be inclined to just leave, instead of sticking around. I eventually overcame this and got good when it came to streaming, but I would feel awkward if I was to just film and talk out loud to no one and I would imagine that the footage would either be deleted or just not looked at again.

Currently, I'm setting up to edit this, so hopefully, by the end of the day, I should have a rough cut to upload and show my mate and get his feedback on it. I have a few ideas that could be funny, but whether or not he finds the ideas funny is another story entirely.

For some reason, after it was finished I tried to put it into Davinci Resolve and it wasn't working, I checked to properties of the OBS recording and it's in .MKV, which is weird as it's never been set to that before, and I never had this problem with any of my gameplay VODS I have done in the past. Anyway, I had to find a converter site, and set it to convert to MP4 and I've been waiting patiently as it does its thing. Not long to go now.

Where Will It Be
I'm going to upload it to YouTube, but I'm thinking of also uploading it here to 3Speak too, I might even look around and see if there are any other places to put it.

Regardless of whether or not this episode gets any views, we'll be doing some follow-up episodes, although, each of the following episodes will be more focused on one thing and then we may even do some movie reviews and general discussions about any daily goings-ons we come across online.

Fingers crossed that it goes well anyway, I'm sure there is some entertaining stuff throughout, but we'll see. I'm about to start the review and cut, and once that's done I'll be splicing in some trailers or general footage and screenshots to back up visually whatever it is we're talking about at that moment.

3speak would be a pretty solid option. Very welcoming staff and community. We used to have a movies & tv shows podcast uploaded to 3speak that did pretty well but those contributing ended up moving on to different things and didn't have the time. Thanks for reminding me that I probably should look to revive it. :^)

Oh that's deadly, yeah why not start it up again! Me and my mate had a lot of fun buzzing off eachother and talking about different things we like. We could have gone on longer, but want to try keep each episode about 45 minutes.

You should look at CastGarden that is integrated with Hive. Lots of shows on there. Old episodes of my podcast on there too, but I need to get around to doing some new ones.

I was actually talking to one of the guys of CastGarden, about setting me up. I never took him up on the offer at the time, but now that I'm back to uploading stuff I'm going to set it up.

As I remember from the conversation, you're able to upload to YouTube for example, but since that's linked to your account it automatically uploads to other platforms. Or something like that, I can't quite remember the details of it.

That's really cool man, I'll look up your videos, what kind of stuff would you be talking about?

Mine are just audio and I talk about making music. I want to get into doing some interviews with musicians I know. I just have to fit it around everything else I do.

Oh, that would be really cool! If you find time to get back into it, I could send a bunch of people your way from different bands I know.
