Akpan & Oduma, The Movie. The first of its kind

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

A few months ago, Wale Adenuga Production, which is involved in a lot of entertainment projects and is commonly known as WapTV, announced the first-of-its-kind movie production from one of the oldest skit makers in Nigeria — Akpan & Oduma. The announcement was welcomed with loads of joy, especially by fans of the Akpan & Oduma comedy series, of which I am one. We had been expecting a full movie for a long time, but it never came, so this announcement was a huge trigger of excitement, with expectations of a massive hit. They had never done anything like a full movie before — it had always been short series.

Four days ago(11th August 2025), the movie was released, and it was worth the hype.

Akpan & Oduma: The Movie

Akpan and Oduma, as we have always known them from the comedy series, were living in a one-room apartment in a compound with Sister Bridget and Brother Shangalo as co-tenants, and their landlord also lived in the same compound. These two guys got jobs in a household — Akpan as the chef, while Oduma became the driver. One day, Oduma, during a man-to-man conversation, told Akpan that their boss had a side chick (an extramarital affair with a lady). That, according to him, was the reason they did not return home on time — because he drove his boss to the lady’s house every day after work. The next day, what Oduma told Akpan accidentally slipped out of Akpan’s mouth, and the wife of the man overheard it. She took it personally, confronted her husband, and he did not deny it. Instead, he said he wanted to make the lady his second wife. The wife was deeply hurt and could not stand the idea of her husband marrying another woman. Her best friend, Carol suggested they use a diabolic method to prevent the marriage, and she agreed. They met a voodoo priest, who told her that the only way to prevent the marriage from happening was to make her husband poor by transferring his wealth and good fortune to whoever she spoke to first upon leaving the voodoo shrine. She agreed to the plan. She planned to talk to her son first as soon as she got home so that the wealth would be transferred to him. Unfortunately for her, an unexpected event happened as soon as she arrived, and Akpan was the first person she spoke to.

That was it — Akpan became extremely rich while the husband became poor.

What happens next? A completely new plot unfolds, and I will leave you to watch and see the drama that plays out.

Rating and Opinion

The Cast:

The main cast members, Akpan and Oduma, did very well, just as we usually enjoy them in their comic series. The expectations we had of them were met 100%.

The couple, Babajide and his wife, portrayed their characters very well. They were the ‘serious’ characters of the movie, and casting them in those roles was an excellent choice.

Sister Bridget, Patoski, the landlord, and Brother Shangalo , although they did not have as much screen time as we expected , also delivered their characters perfectly. Of course, without these ones, the movie would not have been complete.

The Storyline and Comic Scenes:

This was my first time anticipating a Nigerian movie, and that was because it was a comic one. I was satisfied with the comic nature of the film. Oh yes, the storyline is a sensitive one, but even at that, it was filled with laughter in between, making it a complete and enjoyable movie for me.

The Soundtrack:

OMG! We would have rioted if the iconic soundtrack from the comic series had not been used. That soundtrack was everything in the movie.

I am rating the movie a 10/10, not just because they are my favourite comic stars but because the movie was genuinely well done.

Thanks for reading.

I've always loved Wale Adenuga Production but I wonder why I never heard of this drama. Definitely going to give it a good watch.
