Countdown (2019) Review: An App that tells when its users are going to die

After using four months to watch a particular series that looked so endless, I made up my mind to relax a bit from series, let me go for an easy one that will give me a one-time watch. So, I went to my screenshot file, where I usually save screenshots of movies I like. I settled for Countdown and got it downloaded.
I remember when I saw the photo of the countdown on a page on Facebook, I didn't bother to open a comment or read reviews; I knew it's going to make sense, especially from the spooky title. It's exactly my type of movie.

Countdown is an American supernatural movie released in 2019. It all started when Evan, his girlfriend, Court, and other friends gathered to drink and have a good time. One talk led to another, and they came across the Countdown app, which tells its users when they're going to die.

Ordinary, it sounded so unbelievable to me, just as it occurred to all of them, so they decided to play a game with it, let everyone install it, and the person with the least date to die gets to drink all the cups filled with liquor. They did that, and the Court appeared to have the least time—3 hours, while others had 65 years, 40 years, 32 years, and so on.
At that moment, Court's countenance changed, even though they tried to tease her that it was nothing serious.

On their way back, Evan had been soaked with alcohol. Court begged Evan to let her walk to her house because he's drunk and doesn't want to give the app its demand. Evan refused, but she persisted. She walked down, went to her house, got some scary taunts, and died at the actual second the app predictable.

What about Evan? He had an accident that same night and the branch of a tree broke the front glass to pierce the chair Court was seated on.
This mean that, either ways, Court was destined to die at the moment.

Evan got admitted to the hospital and was scared because his time was ticking with a few hours to go. One of the scariest things about the app is that it gives a warning notification with a scary sound when the time is getting closer.

Then Quinn, an intern in the hospital who just got promoted to nurse, walked up to him and persuaded him to tell her why he was in a bad mood and crying. He opened up to her and showed her the countdown app on the phone with a ticking time. Quinn laughed over it, and that was it. When the time reached, Evan got troubled by a mysterious being in the bathroom of the hospital, and he fell off the stairs and died.
All the staff in the hospital took it as a mere accident, except for Quinn.

Out of curiosity, she downloaded the app to see for herself; she registered, accepted the terms of the policy, and hey, a 3-day countdown appeared as her time of death. She got a little bit scared. She got home and did some internet searches, but all she could find were people throwing shits at the rumour.

Two days to go, the app began to give her notification; her house got haunted by ghosts; she smashed the phone, but the phone refused to go blackout; the app was still counting on the scattered screen.

Her younger sister met her, picked up her smashed phone, and saw the app, and she got curious enough to download hers even when her elder sister, Quinn, warned her not to.

Quinn threw away the phone with the sim and went for another brand new phone with everything new. The new phone got installed; she felt good at last, but as she was going off, the countdown app got automatically installed on her phone. From where? No one knows, and that was where she met Matt, a guy who's almost at the same time of death as her.

Two heads are better than one. They sorted for ways to escape the death, and they met someone who gave them a hack, which was to try and hack the app and see if they could increase their time there.

Oh yeah, they found a phone hacker, paid him, and the guy succeeded in increasing their time of death and for Jordan, Quinn's sister.

They felt so good, and finally it's over. They had a hard time with romance, and the next day, the app got updated and they returned to their actual death time. Crazy!

Their quest continued, and they met a reverend father who deals with evil spirits. They explained to him, and the Reverend asked if he could see the terms and conditions of the app, and that was when they knew that they hadn't really read the terms and conditions before installing. So they went out, convinced someone to create an account, and as the man who was doing that, they seized the opportunity to extract the terms and conditions.

They took it Reverend Father, he read it and understood how to hack it, which is not hacking per say but a means to outsmart the spirit of death. Along the line, Matt died at his actual time of death, leaving Quinn and her sister.

Meanwhile, Quinn used her medical ideas to kill herself before her time, which made the spirit of death diffuse into thin air. And after that, her sister searched her pocket, saw an antinode of the injected drug, injected her, and she came back to life.

Everything went normal until Quinn got a notification and it reads, "Countdown 2.0 is now installed."

Yes, there's a part two👌

I'm a big fan of spooky and supernatural movies and this one delivered the way I like it. I'm giving it 9/10 and that's because I haven't seen its part two.
