¡Hola Hola Comunidad! ✨, Taylor Swift acaba de lanzar un nuevo álbum que me ha encantado, es el mes de mi cumpleaños y últimamente estoy verdaderamente estresada por cuestiones de la graduación, así que es un buen momento para hablar de cosas que me gusten, entre ellas películas que están catalogadas como mis favoritas 💖, lo complicado de ésto es que mientras más me gusta una serie o películas más me cuesta hablar de ella, es como si mi cerebro no encontrara la forma de organizar toda la información que tengo acerca de ésta, y justamente eso es lo que siempre me ha pasado con ésta película, puedo fácilmente decir que me sé muchos diálogos de memoria y aún así traerles una reseña se me hace difícil 😂, ironías de la vida dirían por allí, sin embargo el momento ha llegado así que hoy hablaremos de Ni Idea 💖🛍️.
Hello Hello Community! ✨, Taylor Swift has just released a new album that I love, it's my birthday month, and lately I've been really stressed out about graduation, so it's a good time to talk about things I like, including films that are listed as my favourites 💖. The tricky thing about this is that the more I like a series or film, the harder it is for me to talk about it. It's as if my brain can't figure out how to organise all the information I have about it, and that's exactly what has always happened to me with this film. I can easily say that I know many of the lines by heart, and yet it's still difficult for me to review it 😂. The ironies of life, as they say, but the time has come, so today we're going to talk about Clueless 💖🛍️.
💖 SINOPSIS || SYNOPSIS 🛍️
Cher Horowitz es una popular y adinerada chica de Beverly Hills, cuyos días transcurren en ir a la secundaria y salir de compras con su mejor amiga Dionne, es hija de un prestigioso abogado de Los Ángeles por lo que su carácter persuasivo viene heredado de su familia. Dicho carácter de persuasión y manipulación es lo que la lleva a emparejar a dos de sus profesores más estrictos, por lo que tras su rotundo éxito de aparente “casamentera” decide apadrinar a Tai, la chica nueva del colegio, dándole un cambio de imágen y buscando para ella al “mejor partido” entre los chicos populares de la secundaria.
Sin embargo, aunque sus planes estén cargados de buenas intenciones, éstos fracasan de forma estrepitosa, haciendo que se cuestione si de verdad conoce algo sobre cómo funciona la vida, porque como bien suele repetirle su ex hermanastro Josh, la vida de los demás no puede ser manipulada a nuestro antojo.
Cher Horowitz is a popular and wealthy girl from Beverly Hills, whose days are spent going to secondary school and shopping with her best friend Dionne. She is the daughter of a prestigious Los Angeles solicitor, so her persuasive nature is inherited from her family. This persuasive and manipulative character is what leads her to pair up two of her strictest teachers, so after her resounding success as an apparent “matchmaker”, she decides to take Tai, the new girl at school, under her wing, giving her a makeover and looking for the “best match” for her among the popular boys at school.
However, although her plans are full of good intentions, they fail miserably, making her question whether she really knows anything about how life works, because as her ex-stepbrother Josh often reminds her, other people's lives cannot be manipulated at will.
💖 UNA VERSIÓN MODERNA DE EMMA || A MODERN VERSION OF EMMA 🛍️
Ésta producción de 1995 es una versión moderna de la historia clásica de Emma de Jane Austen, que además se convirtió en un ícono de la moda de los 90’s reflejando todo aquello que caracterizaba ésta época en concreto, la popularidad, el lujo, el estar a la moda y ser parte de un grupo que cumpliera con éstos estándares, son elementos tratados en ésta historia que además se convirtieron en la identidad de la película, la cual se sigue viendo reflejada aún 30 años después de su estreno.
Hablar de ésta película es sin duda alguna también hablar de moda, y es que ni siquiera el paso de las décadas ha logrado mitigar el impacto que ésta historia tuvo sobre ese elemento cultura, siendo así que en múltiples ocasiones para referenciar a la época de los 90’s se suele tomar como imagen visual justamente ésta película.
This 1995 production is a modern version of Jane Austen's classic story Emma, which also became a fashion icon of the 1990s, reflecting everything that characterised that particular era: Popularity, luxury, being fashionable, and being part of a group that met these standards are elements addressed in this story that also became the identity of the film, which continues to be reflected even 30 years after its release.
To talk about this film is undoubtedly also to talk about fashion, and even the passing of decades has not managed to mitigate the impact that this story had on that cultural element, so much so that on multiple occasions, this film is often used as a visual reference to the 1990s.
La trama central de ésta historia gira alrededor de nuestra protagonista Cher Horowitz, lo que nos permite ver el mundo de la misma forma en que ella lo ve, luminoso, pulcro y sofisticado, casi imitando una película de Barbie, porque en su mundo ella representa a la perfección el papel de niña adinerada y consentida, cuya realidad no va más allá de los límites que conoce y que la hacen sentir cómoda, por eso no es casualidad que no sepa cómo desenvolverse en entornos un poco más hostiles los cuales se ven plasmados en dos momentos cruciales de la película: el robo post escena de acoso y el desvío hacía la autopista con su amiga Dionne; dos momentos que escapan del mundo rosa de perfección y dinero al que está habituada y que generan crisis en ella.
Algo con lo que la película es muy ingeniosa en trabajar es justamente con la imagen de popularidad, haciendo contraste con lo que hoy en día venden acerca de éste concepto, en ésta película esa imagen es normal, no está satanizada y no representa algo a lo que deberías oponerte, justamente porque no vemos la realidad desde aquel que no encaja en éste grupo (como pasa actualmente), sino que la vemos desde alguien que es en todo el sentido de la palabra, la popularidad encarnada.
The central plot of this story revolves around our protagonist Cher Horowitz, allowing us to see the world as she sees it: bright, neat, and sophisticated, almost like a Barbie film, because in her world she perfectly plays the role of a wealthy, spoilt girl whose reality does not go beyond the limits she knows and that make her feel comfortable. That is why it is no coincidence that she does not know how to cope in slightly more hostile environments, which are reflected in two crucial moments in the film: the robbery after the harassment scene and the detour to the motorway with her friend Dionne; two moments that escape the pink world of perfection and money to which she is accustomed and that cause her to have a crisis.
Something that the film is very clever in working with is precisely the image of popularity, contrasting it with what is sold today about this concept. in this film, that image is normal, it is not demonised and does not represent something you should oppose, precisely because we do not see reality from the perspective of someone who does not fit into this group (as is currently the case), but rather from the perspective of someone who is, in every sense of the word, popularity incarnate.
Como alguien que no ha leído el libro Emma de Jane Austen pero sí ha visto las dos adaptaciones que se han realizado de ésta historia, puedo decir que Ni Idea hace un trabajo bastante bueno en modernizar los sucesos que se plasman en dicha historia, partiendo por la idea central de lo que caracteriza el personaje de Emma que es justamente jugar a la casamentera, pero también siendo una chica con privilegios económicos para la época que busca desde su estatus, que su círculo más cercano también contemple la vida desde ese privilegio, que es básicamente lo que intenta hacer Cher con Tai al apadrinarla, cambiar su look e intentar que encuentre un interés romántico en alguien del grupo de populares.
No obstante, desde cierto punto de vista se podría confundir la personalidad Cher con el de una Mean Girl, y de una vez digo que para nada es así, pues Cher es un personaje con prejuicios pero con bondad, no busca minimizar a aquellos que no son de su estatus social, simplemente ve sus privilegios como la norma y cree que todos pueden alcanzarlos, por eso cuando entiende que no es así y que la imagen que proyecta es el de “niña tonta con tarjeta de crédito”, es cuando logra su punto de inflexión y evolución.
As someone who has not read Jane Austen's Emma but has seen both adaptations of the story, I can say that Clueless does a pretty good job of modernising the events depicted in the story, starting with the central idea that characterises Emma's personality, which is precisely to play matchmaker, but also being a girl with economic privileges for the time who seeks, from her status, for her closest circle to also view life from that privilege, which is basically what Cher tries to do with Tai by mentoring her, changing her look and trying to get her to find a romantic interest in someone from the popular group.
However, from a certain point of view, Cher's personality could be confused with that of a Mean Girl, and I will say right away that this is not the case at all, as Cher is a character with prejudices but with kindness. She does not seek to belittle those who are not of her social status; she simply sees her privileges as the norm and believes that everyone can achieve them. That is why, when she understands that this is not the case and that the image she projects is that of a ‘dumb girl with a credit card’, she reaches her turning point and evolves.
Obviamente ésta película tiene romance, pero lo menciono como lo último a destacar porque realmente creo que no es lo que mayor importancia tiene ésta película, de hecho creo que puede llegar a pasar desapercibido hasta cierto punto, hay algo en la evolución de Cher que toma mayor relevancia en la historia y hace que el romance quede en segundo plano, o por lo menos para mí es así, siendo donde quizás falle con respecto a la historia de donde toma inspiración, porque en Emma (al menos la versión de 1996 que recientemente ví) el romance sí es notorio, y conociendo a la autora del libro estoy casi segura que allí también es un elemento con mayor relevancia.
Actualmente hablar de un romance entre hermanastros quizás sea un poco funable (aunque nos intenten vender lo contrario), pero entiendo que tal vez para la época no lo era tanto, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que para el momento en que se desarrolla la trama ellos ya ni siquiera son hermanastros, aún así cuando me detengo a pensar en que ellos sí crecieron juntos al menos una parte de su infancia, sí se vuelve un poco turbia la historia, por lo que para mi salud mental yo prefiero no pensar en eso 😂. Igualmente como ya dije antes, para mí el elemento romántico en ésta película no es lo importante.
Obviously, this film has romance, but I mention it last because I really don't think it's the most important part of the film. In fact, I think it can go unnoticed to a certain extent. There is something about Cher's evolution that takes on greater relevance in the story and makes the romance take a back seat, or at least that is how it is for me. This is perhaps where it falls short in comparison to the story from which it draws inspiration, because in Emma (at least the 1996 version that I recently saw), the romance is very noticeable, and knowing the author of the book, I am almost certain that it is also a more relevant element there.
Nowadays, talking about a romance between step-siblings might be a bit taboo (even though they try to sell us the opposite), but I understand that perhaps at the time it wasn't so much, especially considering that by the time the plot unfolds, they are no longer even step-siblings. Even so, when I stop to think that they did grow up together for at least part of their childhood, the story does become a bit murky, so for my mental health I prefer not to think about it 😂. Anyway, as I said before, for me, the romantic element in this film is not the important thing.
