Rum Punch and Jackie Brown: the novel and the film by Elmore Leonard (by @kork75)

Today I want to tell you about a book and a film that share the same author: Elmore Leonard. The book is called “Rum Punch”, a 1992 noir novel that inspired the 1997 film “Jackie Brown”, directed by Quentin Tarantino. Both recount the adventures of Jackie Burke, a stewardess who acts as a courier to smuggle money for Ordell, a notorious criminal. Jackie finds herself having to cooperate with the police in order to frame Ordell, but at the same time she tries to escape with the loot, helped by Max Cherry, an ex-cop and owner of a bail bond agency. Leonard's novel is one of the best examples of contemporary noir, with a gripping plot and memorable characters. The book was first published in Italy in 1998 as “Jackie Brown”, taking its title from Tarantino's film of the same name, and later republished in 2014 with the title literally translated from the original. Tarantino's film is inspired by the novel with a few infidelities, including the change in ethnicity of the protagonist, who is white in the book and black in the film. The director succeeds in paying homage to the noir genre and 1970s cinema, without losing his originality and humour. The film boasts an exceptional cast, with Pam Grier, Robert Forster, Robert De Niro and Samuel L. Jackson.
