Hola, mis amigos. Que placer saludarlos y postear en esta comunidad por primera vez.

Atendiendo al llamado de @wiseagent y a la cariñosa invitación de @rayhanhiveman, me sumo a participar en este primer concurso de la comunidad Scrobble Life, donde hay que hablar sobre una película y por qué nos gustó. Y como soy una cinéfila, aquí estoy con mi aporte. Lo que hace este filme especial para mí es que vi en Leo a la hija de una amiga, una niña de más o menos la misma edad de Leo que no necesita hablar para decir lo que siente y lo que quiere. Una niña con la que he interactuado varias veces y siempre me roba el corazón.

Heeding the call from @wiseagent and the kind invitation from @rayhanhiveman, I'm joining in to take part in this first contest for the Scrobble Life community, where we have to talk about a film and why we liked it. And since I'm a film lover, here I am with my contribution. What makes this film special for me is that I saw in Leo the daughter of a friend of mine—a girl around the same age as Leo who doesn't need to speak to say what she feels and what she wants. A girl I've interacted with several times and who always steals my heart.

La película que les traigo resultó ser una sorpresa para mí, empecé a verla sin grandes espectativas y terminó conquistándome por completo. Hay filmes que te llegan al alma sin estridencias, con la suavidad de un viaje por carreteras y Leo & Lou, es una de ellas. “Leo & Lou” es una película española del 2025 que mezcla drama y comedia ligera en una road movie por Galicia. Es tierna, emotiva y con un aire esperanzador.

The film I'm bringing turned out to be a surprise for me. I started watching it without high expectations, and it ended up completely winning me over. Some films touch your soul without any fanfare, with the gentleness of a road trip, and Leo & Lou is one of them. Leo & Lou is a 2025 Spanish film that blends drama and light comedy in a road movie set in Galicia. It's tender, emotional, and has a hopeful air.

La historia de Leo & Lou, no presenta a Leo (Julia Sulleiro), una niña de diez años que dejó de hablar tras perder a sus padres en un accidente en el mar. Huérfana y muda, vive en un centro de acogida donde le cuesta conectar con los demás. Su única ilusión es participar en un concurso de pesca que le recuerda a su familia. Así, una noche decide fugarse con su caña y un pez payaso de peluche como talismán.

The story of Leo & Lou introduces us to Leo (Julia Sulleiro), a ten-year-old girl who stopped speaking after losing her parents in an accident at sea. Orphaned and mute, she lives in a foster care center where she struggles to connect with others. Her only hope is to take part in a fishing contest that reminds her of her family. So, one night, she decides to run away with her fishing rod and a stuffed clownfish as her lucky charm.

En el camino, mientras hacía autostop, se cruza con Lou (Isak Férriz), un hombre gruñón, solitario, recién salido de prisión, borracho y experto en meterse en líos. Él cree que le hace un favor llevándola, pero Leo, sin decir una palabra, lo convierte en su compañero de fuga hacia la costa gallega. Así comienza el viaje de esta pareja tan peculiar: una niña que no habla y un hombre que no quiere escuchar. Lou, en su cinismo, frustración y desencanto de la vida, representa la visión adulta de un mundo lleno de grises. Leo, en cambio, encarna la ilusión y la capacidad de asombro infantil, algo que no deberíamos perder nunca.

Along the way, while hitchhiking, she crosses paths with Lou (Isak Férriz), a grumpy, solitary man just out of prison, drunk, and an expert at getting into trouble. He thinks he's doing her a favor by giving her a ride, but Leo, without saying a word, turns him into her partner in flight toward the Galician coast. And so begins the journey of this peculiar pair: a girl who doesn't speak and a man who doesn't want to listen. Lou, with his cynicism, frustration, and disillusionment with life, represents the adult view of a world full of gray areas. Leo, on the other hand, embodies the wonder and capacity for amazement of childhood—something we should never lose.

Algo impresionante y que destaca son los paisajes de España, la fotografía está muy cuidada, con el mar de fondo como refugio emocional. Esta película pone la inclusión en primer plano, mostrando cómo se puede conectar sin palabras. Durante toda la obra, es evidente la química entre los protagonistas. Leo sorprende por su naturalidad, mientras Lou aporta vulnerabilidad y humor a la obra. Un grupo de situciones divertidas y peripecias, que no les voy a contar porque no quiero llegar al spoiler, conforman toda la película.

One impressive and standout aspect is the Spanish landscapes; the cinematography is very carefully crafted, with the sea in the background serving as an emotional refuge. This film puts inclusion front and center, showing how we can connect without words. Throughout the entire work, the chemistry between the protagonists is evident. Leo surprises with her naturalness, while Lou brings vulnerability and humor to the film. A series of funny situations and adventures—which I won't tell you about because I don't want to spoil anything—make up the whole movie.

Otra de las cuestiones que más me gustó fue que la cinta no se pone melodramática ni empalagosa, aunque sí tiene momentos para soltar unas lagrimitas. Es cine sencillo, con corazón, que te recuerda que a veces la familia no es la que te toca, sino la que encuentras en el camino. Mientras veía el filme iba recordando las muchas veces que en mi propia vida, no he tenido de que abrir la boca para expresar mis sentimientos y emociones, porque a veces, no hay mejor lenguaje que el silencio, los gestos y las miradas.

Another thing I really liked was that the film doesn't get melodramatic or saccharine, although it does have moments that might bring a tear to your eye. It's simple cinema, with heart, that reminds you that sometimes family isn't the one you're born into, but the one you find along the way. While watching the film, I found myself remembering the many times in my own life when I haven't needed to open my mouth to express my feelings and emotions, because sometimes, there is no better language than silence, gestures, and glances.

A modo de resumen, sepan que este filme es una historia de superación, ideal para ver en familia, ligero pero con mensaje. Nos ofrece un viaje emocional que habla de inclusión, segundas oportunidades y la necesidad de conexión humana. Una recomendación para quienes busquen una historia sincera que demuestra que, a veces, las palabras sobran.
