Reseña de la serie "Merlín"/Review of the series "Merlin" (Esp-Eng)

Hola, mis amigos. Es un placer saludarlos con mis mejores deseos, como siempre. Hoy les hablaré una serie que estoy segura vieron muchos de los contemporáneos conmigo.

Durante una época de mi vida, ya no tanto, me dediqué a ver muchas series y filmes en la televisión, y sin temor a equivocarme, puedo decir que "Merlín" ha sido una de las series que más disfruté. Cuando la vi, allá por el año 2010, vivía con mis dos hijos que aún eran pequeños y no podían leer los subtítulos. Sin embargo, se sentaban junto a mí a verla y hasta la disfrutaban. Yo siempre me encargué de darles una idea general de lo que ocurría. Además, a ellos le resultaba muy atractivo aquel mundo fantástico y sobre todo, el dragón parlante.

Esta espectacular serie, llena fantasía, magia y criaturas mitológicas, nos cuenta la leyenda del príncipe Arturo de Inglaterra a través de los ojos y la mano de Merlín, el célebre mago. Con un detalle particular e importante, en la serie, el personaje de Merlín es aún joven, no es el anciano de sombrero y barba larga que estamos acostumbrados a ver en películas.

El principal escenario de la serie es la ciudad de Camelot, donde gobierna el rey de Uther Pendragon, padre de Arturo. Allí, por lamentables sucesos pasados, la magia está prohibida y se castiga con la muerte. Merlín llega a la corte para estudiar con un sabio médico, pero durante la trama, descubre que su verdadero destino es proteger a Arturo, futuro rey destinado a restaurar la magia.

Para cumplir su misión de proteger al príncipe Arturo, Merlín se convierte en su sirviente, haciendo todo lo posible y lo imposible, por ocultar sus poderes ante el príncipe, incluso, pasando por tonto muchas veces, lo que provoca situaciones humorísticas que se agradecen. Mientras tanto, Merlín enfrenta constantes amenazas mágicas de criaturas malvadas, brujas y también traiciones, en especial de Morgana, quien se transforma en una excelente villana.

"Merlín" está provista de todas las pasiones y emociones que pueden experimentar los seres humanos. Encontrarán en ella odio, rencor, envidia, egoísmo y sobre todo, amor y amores posibles e imposibles. La relación entre Arturo y Merlín es una de las cosas que más disfruté. El primero arrogante y noble, el segundo, torpe pero sabio. Ambos, forman el "equipo" perfecto para vivir muchas aventuras. Juntos crean una hermosa amistad construida con humor y momentos emotivos.

Esta serie contó con un elenco destacado: Colin Morgan (Merlín), Bradley James (Arturo), Katie McGrath (Morgana), Angel Coulby (Gwen), Richard Wilson (Gaius), Anthony Head (Uther Pendragon).
Uno de los personajes atípicos de la serie es El dragón Kilgharrah, un sabio animal que siempre le aseguró a Merlín que el futuro estaba escrito y nada se podía hacer para cambiarlo. Sin embargo, Arturo y Merlín lucharon siempre por definir y encontrar sus caminos.

"Merlín" nos deja un mensaje de justicia social a través de la crítica a la diferencia de clases. Ejemplo de ello es el romance "prohibido" de Arturo y Gwen, una sirvienta.

Otros atractivos de la serie son sus efectos tecnológicos (el dragón y otras criaturas); los impresionantes lugares y castillos que le dan ese aire medieval; así como su monumental banda sonora con su mezcla de misterio, aventura y cuentos de hadas.

Esta serie, juvenil y refrescante, fue un éxito mundial y durante la pandemia de la COVID 19, fue vista por muchas personas, yo entre ellas, como método para olvidar el aislamiento y también por su tono optimista y esperanzador.

A pesar de su final inesperado y controversial, posee un tono ideal para adolescentes, jovenes y adultos que buscan aventuras sin crudeza extrema, lejos de tiroteos y persecuciones automovilísticas. Pienso que merece la pena ser vista y disfrutada por muchos, principalmente por personas soñadoras e imaginativas. Se encuentra disponible en Netflix, por si alguno se anima.

Yo me quedo con la frase que algún crítico dijo sobre la serie:
"Es la fábula de tu infancia, contada con cariño y un dragón que susurra verdades eternas".

Review of the series "Merlin"

Hello, my friends. It's a pleasure to greet you with my best wishes, as always. Today, I will talk to you about a series that I am sure many of my contemporaries watched.

During a period of my life, though not so much anymore, I dedicated myself to watching many series and films on television, and without fear of being mistaken, I can say that "Merlín" was one of the series I enjoyed the most. When I watched it back in 2010, I lived with my two children, who were still young and couldn’t read the subtitles. However, they would sit next to me to watch it and even enjoyed it. I always made sure to give them a general idea of what was happening. Moreover, they found that fantastical world very appealing, especially the talking dragon.

This spectacular series, filled with fantasy, magic, and mythological creatures, tells the legend of Prince Arthur of England through the eyes and actions of Merlin, the famous wizard. With an important and particular detail: in the series, the character of Merlin is still young, not the old man with a hat and long beard we are used to seeing in films.

The main setting of the series is the city of Camelot, ruled by King Uther Pendragon, Arthur’s father. There, due to unfortunate past events, magic is forbidden and punishable by death. Merlin arrives at the court to study with a wise physician, but during the plot, he discovers that his true destiny is to protect Arthur, the future king destined to restore magic.

To fulfill his mission of protecting Prince Arthur, Merlin becomes his servant, doing everything possible and impossible to hide his powers from the prince, even often playing the fool, which leads to humorous and appreciated situations.
Meanwhile, Merlin constantly faces magical threats from evil creatures, witches, and betrayals, especially from Morgana, who becomes an excellent villain.

"Merlín" is filled with all the passions and emotions that human beings can experience. You will find in it hatred, resentment, envy, selfishness, and above all, love—both possible and impossible. The relationship between Arthur and Merlin is one of the things I enjoyed the most. The former is arrogant and noble, the latter clumsy but wise. Together, they form the perfect "team" to live out many adventures. They build a beautiful friendship filled with humor and touching moments.

This series featured an outstanding cast: Colin Morgan (Merlin), Bradley James (Arthur), Katie McGrath (Morgana), Angel Coulby (Gwen), Richard Wilson (Gaius), Anthony Head (Uther Pendragon).

One of the unique characters in the series is the dragon Kilgharrah, a wise animal who always assured Merlin that the future was written and nothing could be done to change it. However, Arthur and Merlin always fought to define and find their own paths.

"Merlín" leaves us with a message of social justice through its critique of class differences. An example of this is the "forbidden" romance between Arthur and Gwen, a servant.

Other attractions of the series include its technical effects (the dragon and other creatures); the impressive locations and castles that give it that medieval air; as well as its monumental soundtrack with its mix of mystery, adventure, and fairy tales.

This youthful and refreshing series was a worldwide success, and during the COVID-19 pandemic, it was watched by many people, including myself, as a way to forget about isolation and uplift our spirits with its optimistic and hopeful tone.

Despite its unexpected and controversial ending, it has an ideal tone for teenagers, young adults, and adults seeking adventures without excessive grittiness, far from shootouts and car chases. I think it is worth watching and enjoying by many, especially by dreamy and imaginative people. It is available on Netflix, in case anyone feels tempted.
