Tal vez porque soy enfermera de profesión disfruto mucho este tipo de serie televisiva. Por eso, cada lunes, miércoles y vienes en la noche, estoy fiel delante del televisor. Te cuento que si te gusta el drama médico que te ponga los pelos de punta, "The Pitt" es para ti. Olvídate de las novelas cursis con médicos perfectos, esta serie es un golpe en el estómago, de esos que te dejan sin aliento pero pidiendo más.

Maybe it's because I'm a nurse by profession, but I really enjoy this type of TV series. That's why every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday night, I'm glued to the television. Let me tell you, if you like medical drama that makes your hair stand on end, "The Pitt" is for you. Forget cheesy soap operas with perfect doctors—this series is a gut punch, the kind that leaves you breathless but begging for more.
¿De qué va la cosa? La serie, ganadora del Emmy a Mejor Drama, nos mete de lleno en el servicio de urgencias del Centro Médico de Pittsburgh. Pero el truco está en que cada episodio es una hora de un solo turno de 15 horas. Es como una carrera de maratón pero con batas blancas, sangre y un estrés que se te pega en la ropa.
So, what's it about? The series, winner of the Emmy for Best Drama, plunges us straight into the emergency room of the Pittsburgh Medical Center. But the twist is that each episode covers just one hour of a single 15-hour shift. It's like a marathon, but with white coats, blood, and a level of stress that sticks to your clothes.
Y hablando de sangre, esto no es para corazones débiles. La serie es cruda, naturalista, como si pusieras una cámara en un hospital real. Ves de todo: procedimientos médicos bien gráficos, ratas corriendo por los pasillos y un personal que trabaja hasta el agotamiento con lo que tiene a mano. Aquí no se anda con cuentos chinos, la crítica al sistema de salud es durísima, mostrando las diferencias sociales y la falta de recursos.
And speaking of blood, this isn't for the faint of heart. The series is raw and naturalistic, as if they stuck a camera in a real hospital. You see it all: highly graphic medical procedures, rats scurrying through the hallways, and staff running on fumes with whatever they've got on hand. It doesn't pull any punches—the critique of the healthcare system is brutal, laying bare social inequalities and the lack of resources.
El que lleva el peso es el Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, interpretado por Noah Wyle. Sí, el mismo de "ER: Urgencias", pero aquí no es el jovencito idealista. Su personaje es un veterano cascarrabias, con la mirada cansada de haber visto demasiado. Carga con todo el drama del equipo sin hacer aspavientos, y te partes el alma viéndolo. El reparto que lo rodea es tremendo, sin un solo personaje que sobre. Desde la Dra. Mel King, que es neurodivergente y tiene una sensibilidad que es un superpoder, hasta los estudiantes de medicina que llegan cagándose de miedo. Todos tienen sus líos personales y profesionales, pero lo que importa es salvar al que está en la camilla.
Carrying the weight of it all is Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, played by Noah Wyle. Yep, the same guy from "ER," but here he's not the idealistic young intern. His character is a grizzled veteran, with the weary look of someone who has seen way too much. He shoulders the entire team's drama without making a fuss, and it just breaks your heart watching him. The supporting cast is phenomenal, not a single wasted character. From Dr. Mel King, who is neurodivergent and whose sensitivity is practically a superpower, to the med students who show up scared shitless—everyone has their personal and professional baggage, but at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is saving the patient on the gurney.
Lo que me tiene enganchada a esta serie es esa sensación de que no hay tregua. No hay finales felices en muchos,casos, muchos pacientes se van y no sabes si viven o mueren, como en la vida real. Es agobiante, intensa, pero a la vez tiene momentos de humor y esperanza que te dan aire. Eso sí, no esperes que sea perfecta. A veces, la necesidad de hacerla emocionante la hace un poco inconsistente, y hay cosas que parecen demasiado convenientes para ser verdad. Pero oye, con la calidad que tiene, eso se le perdona.
What has me completely hooked is the relentless pacing. There's no respite. Many cases don't have happy endings—patients leave and you never find out if they live or die, just like in real life. It's overwhelming and intense, but it also has moments of humor and hope that let you catch your breath. That said, don't expect perfection. Sometimes, the need to keep it thrilling makes it a little inconsistent, and there are moments that feel a bit too convenient to be true. But hey, with this level of quality, it's easy to forgive.
"The Pitt" es de lo mejorcito que ha salido en el género en años. Para verla en Cuba gay qué tener vista de águila y leer rápido pirque los subtítulos ven a la misma velocidad de la serie. Es como una montaña rusa emocional que no te deja respirar. Si te gusta el drama con mayúsculas, el realismo sin filtros y ver a Noah Wyle en su salsa, no lo dudes. Pero prepárate, porque después de verla, cualquier otra serie médica te va a saber a medicina de mentira.
"The Pitt" is one of the best things to come out of the genre in years. To watch it in Cuba, you'll need eagle eyes and fast reading skills, because the subtitles fly by at the same breakneck speed as the show. It's an emotional rollercoaster that doesn't let you breathe. If you love capital-D Drama, unfiltered realism, and seeing Noah Wyle in his element, don't hesitate. But be warned—after watching this, any other medical show will feel like pretend medicine.
