Unmasking Taiwan: A Money Heist-inspired Photoshoot

The Day of Heist

For my second post in this community, I chose to dig my Money Heist-inspired photoshoot from 3 years ago. You won't believe it if I tell you this was an unplanned shoot. Yes, it was my first time to meet these guys wearing red jumpsuits and a dolly mask inspired by the TV Series Money Heist.

Before I talk about how I met these cool guys, I want to mention that I am an ardent fan of this TV Series. I find myself constantly drawn into its world of intricate heists and compelling characters. The show's ability to seamlessly blend heart-pounding action with profound human drama is what truly sets it apart. With each episode, I'm taken on a rollercoaster ride of suspense and anticipation, eagerly awaiting the next ingenious twist. What I admire most is how the series delves into the psychology of each character, revealing their motivations and vulnerabilities. 'Money Heist' isn't just a show for me; it's a testament to the power of storytelling and its ability to resonate on a deeply emotional level.

My favorite shot. This shot was taken from a higher floor on a rooftop, where I stood above them, capturing the moment as they looked up, meeting my gaze..

I was a student back then, residing on the university campus. I had heard about a massive Halloween event scheduled for that day, where the campus streets would be lined with booths selling delectable foods and displaying various crafts and, of course, people wearing their favorite costumes. As a street photographer, such events were a treasure trove for me, so I made it a point to pack my camera and lenses before heading out for lunch.

It was pure coincidence that I encountered a group of people donning Money Heist-inspired costumes. They spotted me capturing various scenes and individuals on the streets. Their leader approached me and asked if I could take a group photo for them. I was pleasantly surprised by their attire. I suggested elevating the shot to a higher level and shared my ideas. With their agreement, I led them to my college building, where I knew there were spots that would perfectly match the desired vibe.

As a fan of the TV series and a photographer, this encounter felt like fate. Capturing scenes that echoed the show became a breeze, thanks to their outfits. Each click of my camera felt like a perfect portrayal of the Money Heist world, turning my lens into a storyteller. This unexpected meeting turned into a creative collaboration that brought the essence of the series to life in my photographs.

Where Heists Unfold

We first ascended to the rooftop of the building where we captured the initial photograph. It was windy, and from the top, we could see the entire town spread out before us, almost as if we were truly part of a heist scene, plotting our daring escape. Just like in the rooftop scene from the first season, where the group used their hostages as bait, donning the same jumpsuits and masks as they were.

After the rooftop shoot, one of their groupmates took us to his school laboratory. Coincidentally, he was a student in the same college as me, studying Micro-electromechanical Systems (MEMS) Engineering. His laboratory proved to be the perfect setting for a headquarters or operation room scene. And guess who took on the role of El Professor? It turned out to be me, the only person not in costume. Fortunately, the laboratory had lab gowns available, instantly transforming them into props for my role as El Professor.

Tú lo has buscado | You Asked for It

We finished the photoshoot by returning to the rooftop to take another group shot, this time with them holding the Taiwan flag. They were all locals; I was the only foreigner. It must have been a proud moment for them, posing for this shot. As for me, every photo I took seemed to be perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed the process. It's that feeling you get as a photographer when you're simply in the moment, capturing it, and knowing you've immortalized a memory. It's something to reminisce about and share with others.

While writing this blog, I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming desire to rewatch the series and recreate that memorable photoshoot with the group. It's a bit disheartening that I can't seem to locate the rest of the pictures I took with them in my drive. I'm not entirely certain whether I stored them elsewhere or if I intentionally saved only the best ones.

But anyway, thanks for dropping by to read my blog and see my photographs. I hope you enjoy it, and if you do, please don't be shy to give a vote 😁 It will motivate me to do more and add extra funds to upgrade my photography gear, you know it 😉

Have a great day, Bella ciao!
