Anime films and series that manage to tell a story with a realistic, human backdrop and even include some aspects or myths from real life are undoubtedly those that can really grab your attention and create a very special feeling when you watch them. Le Sommet des Dieux, also known in English as The Summit of the Gods, is a rather special animated film, both for its story and development, as well as for its peculiar visual aspect, due to the fact that it is a French film produced in 2021 but based on a Japanese manga. For this reason, we have this unique blend of the typical Japanese anime that we are so passionate about, with a more Western style. The visual result is excellent and perfectly complements the raw and obsessive story.

The story introduces us to Makoto Fukamachi, a photographer who follows mountaineers on their ascents to high peaks to take photographs and help document their achievements. One day, by chance, he manages to see Habu Jouji, a talented former mountaineer who had disappeared from public view and seems to have the legendary camera of George Mallory, one of the first mountaineers to attempt to conquer Mount Everest, although he never returned alive and it is not known for sure whether he succeeded before he died or not. Now, with the existence of his supposed camera, the photos could prove whether he reached the summit or not, which would change the history of mountaineering forever, and Makoto wants to be the one to break the news.
This story focuses mainly on human obsession, that feeling of pursuing a goal no matter the cost, even if your life is at stake, even when everyone tells you to give up or doesn't understand the value of what you are so obsessed with. Often, it is simply a feeling of reaching your goal no matter what you do afterwards. At first, we see how Makoto is obsessed with finding Habu again and finding out everything about the mysterious camera. He searches everywhere for information, contacts everyone who ever had a relationship with Habu, and desperately pursues his trail, even when his editor tells him after months to give up the search and that it's all just legends.

At the same time, as Makoto investigates Habu's past to find any clues to his current location, the story shows us Habu's past, the reason why he was so well known in the world of mountaineering, and also lets us see that his endless obsession is to reach the summits of the most difficult mountains and peaks, always looking for the most difficult route, the most difficult season, and even more importantly, to be the first to achieve each feat. Because of this, it is natural that his personality was cold, distant, and even arrogant with his early mountaineering companions, but we can also see how, after a tragic climb, life in a way proves him right, and that his whole way of acting was also to protect others, realizing that almost no one had the conditions and determination to climb like him.

A somewhat sad but also realistic aspect of this story is how, as is often the case in life, talent and determination are not enough. If you don't know how to relate to others and want to do everything alone, you simply won't succeed, and if you do, you won't have the fame of others. In the flashbacks to Habu's past, we are introduced to the character of Tsuneo, a contemporary climber of Habu's who, although talented, was not as skilled and determined as Habu. However, by knowing how to ask for support, relying on people who would back him up, and, even more importantly, being charismatic, he managed to become the most recognized and popular climber worldwide, a true celebrity, while Habu always remained in second place without any recognition, proving that often the most talented person does not achieve fame.

The story concludes by showing how both Makoto and Habu meet and together achieve the goal of their obsession. Habu manages to be the first to climb the most difficult side of Mount Everest without oxygen or team support, in winter and practically alone. Makoto manages to find Habu, learn the truth about the camera, and follow Habu on his ascent. Although the ending may leave a feeling of melancholy and is quite far from the typical happy ending, the truth delivers a clear message: when a person achieves what they are so obsessed with, they can finally be free, feel fulfilled in their life, and, regardless of the outcome, be at peace and without regrets. Le Sommet des Dieux is a film that combines a very interesting animation style with a very exciting story.

Las películas y series de anime que logran contar una historia con trasfondo realista, humano y que incluso incluyen algunos aspectos o mitos de la vida real son sin dudas aquellas que pueden llamar mucho tu atención y lograr generar una sensación muy especial al verla. Le Sommet des Dieux o también conocida en inglés como The Summit of the Gods es una película de animación bastante especial tanto por su historia, desarrollo como también por su peculiar aspecto visual, esto debido a que la misma es una película francesa producida en el año 2021 pero que esta basada en un manga japones. Por este motivo tenemos esa mezcla única entre el típico anime japones que tanto nos apasiona, con un estilo más occidental. Un resultado visual muy bueno que complementa a la perfección su historia tan cruda y obsesiva.

Esta historia nos presenta a Makoto Fukamachi un fotógrafo de alpinistas que los sigue en sus asensos a grandes cumbres para tomar fotografías y ayudar a documentar sus logros, un día por azares del destino logra ver a Habu Jouji, un antiguo y talentoso alpinista que había desaparecido del cocimiento público y parece que tiene la legendaria cámara fotográfica de George Mallory, uno de los primeros alpinista en tratar de conquistar el monte Everest aunque nunca regreso con vida y no se sabe con exactitud si lo pudo lograrlo antes de morir o no. Ahora con la existencia de su supuesta cámara podría comprobarse por las fotos si llego a la cima o no lo cual cambiara la historia del alpinismo para siempre y Makoto quiere ser quien tenga esa primicia.
Esta historia se enfoca principalmente en la obsesión humana, ese sentimiento de buscar un objetivo sin importa el costo, incluso si tu vida este en juego, aun cuando todo el mundo pueda decirte que desistas o hasta no entender el valor de aquello que tanto te obsesiona, muchas veces es simplemente un sentimiento de llegar hasta tu meta sin importar que harás después. En un principio vemos como Makoto tiene la obsesión de poder encontrar nuevamente a Habu y averiguar todo sobre la misteriosa cámara, busca información por todas partes, contacta con todas las personas que alguna vez tuvieron relación con Habu y persigue desesperadamente su pista, aun cuando su editor luego de meses le dice que desista de la búsqueda y que todo es solo leyendas.

Al mismo tiempo a medida que Makoto está investigando sobre el pasado de Habu para poder conseguir alguna pista de su ubicación actual, la historia nos muestra el pasado de Habu, el motivo por el cual era tan conocido en el mundo del alpinismo y también nos deja ver que su obsesión interminable es llegar a las cumbres de los montes y picos mas complicados, siempre buscando la ruta mas difícil, la temporada mas complicada y aun mas importante buscar ser el primero en conseguir cada hazaña. Debido a esto es natural que su personalidad fuera fría, distante y hasta arrogante con sus primeros compañeros de alpinismo, pero también podemos ver como luego de una trágica escalda de cierta forma la vida le da la razón y toda su forma de actuar también era por proteger a los demás dándose cuenta que casi nadie tenia las condiciones y determinación para escalar como él.

Un aspecto algo triste pero también realista de esta historia es como muchas veces en la vida no basta simplemente con el talento y la determinación, si no sabes relacionarte y quieres hacer todo solo simplemente no lo conseguirás y si lo logras no tendrás la fama de otros. En los flashback del pasado de Habu se presenta el personaje de Tsuneo, un alpinista contemporáneo a Habu, quien aunque era talentoso, no era tan habilidoso y determinado como Habu, pero el saber pedir apoyo, contar con gente que lo respaldará y aun mas importarte ser carismático, logra ser el más reconocido y popular a nivel mundial, toda una celebridad en el mundo mientras Habu siempre se quedaba en segundo lugar sin reconocimiento alguno, una muestra de que muchas veces el mas talentoso no consigue la fama.

La historia concluye mostrando como tanto Makoto como Habu se encuentran y juntos consiguen alcanzar el objetivo de su obsesión, Habu consigue ser el primero en escalar el lado mas complicado del monte Everest sin oxigeno ni apoyo de un equipo, en invierno y prácticamente en solitario. Y Makoto logra encontrar a Habu, saber la verdad sobre la cámara y poder seguir a Habu en su acenso, aunque el final puede dar una sensación de melancolía y un final bastante alejado del típico final feliz, la verdad entrega un mensaje claro en donde una persona cuando consigue aquello que tanto lo obsesiona por fin puede ser libre, sentirse realizado en su vida y sin importar en resultado estar en paz y sin arrepentimientos. Le Sommet des Dieux es una película que mescla un estilo de animación bastante interesante con una historia muy emocionante.

Todas las películas relacionadas con alpinismo tocan estos temas y debe ser real, es un deporte bastante lindo, pero peligroso, y como has mencionado muchas veces el tener los contactos correctos y ser carismático ayuda mucho incluso si no se tiene el suficiente talento o capacidad, es una realidad que ha existido desde hace mucho.
