English version

A successful man is accused of murdering his wife for amorous reasons and sentenced to life imprisonment. This is the quickest and simplest way to describe the plot of this excellent film released in 1994 and based on a 1982 literary work by Stephen King.

It received seven Oscar nominations and two Golden Globe nominations.

Among the many cinematic offerings available on pay-per-view platforms, it is easy to find movies that serve to fill people's craving for action and adventure. Superhero movies are very popular today, and today's audiences are eagerly awaiting new releases.

But there are also plenty of options based on stories less close to science fiction and more to the real events that we usually see in society. Many of these productions leave a message in the viewer to reflect and discuss some point of view.

This is exactly what this film achieves. It narrates the experiences of prisoner Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins) after he is incarcerated in Shawshank State Penitentiary, for a crime of which he declares himself innocent. From the very beginning, the film raises some doubts about the nature of the main character, since the evidence against him is so strong that it is very difficult to believe him.

A glimpse inside the film.

Andy arrives at the prison totally withdrawn and with a weakened spirit that conveys an image of weakness and pity. A wonderfully accomplished performance by Mr. Robbins in my view and very necessary for the transformation the character will have as the narrative progresses.

In prison, Andy meets another prisoner named Red (Morgan Freeman) who happens to be a smuggler inside the prison who can get almost anything for the right price. The depth of the character played by Mr. Freeman is terrific. The narrating voice of the film is Red's, and the literary, and somewhat poetic language he uses, gives it a very appealing and enjoyable atmosphere.

Each element presented in the sequences and scenes conveys a message or a thought-provoking idea. Life in prison is harsh and marked by a regime of terror imposed by the infamous warden Samuel Norton (Bob Gunton) whom Andy ends up helping to launder money from fraudulent practices.

The film contains several secondary narratives of things that happen inside the prison and add to the main story, but I don't want to do spoilers for those who haven't seen this film yet. There are other well-known actors that participate in the plot with high quality performances such as: Clancy Brown, William Sadler and Mark Rolston.

Andy's character adapts to life in prison, making personality changes, making friends and enemies, and even implementing educational programs for the benefit of the prisoners.

The film takes a twist when one of the prisoners recounts a conversation he had with someone who claims credit for the crime for which Andy was imprisoned. From there it is evident the innocence of the character played by Tim Robbins and this twist is decisive for everything that will happen next. The warden refuses to help Andy prove his innocence, to the point of acting cruelly against him, which leads Andy to look for a way to change the situation by his own means.

The ending is truly shocking, it's one of those masterful cinematic solutions that make you remember the film for years to come. It's where every element presented beforehand takes on a meaning and gives the film that perfect ending.

What I liked about the film.

Its narrative pace is for me one of the best things about this film. Its great ending and the characterizations of the actors make the story come alive in your mind. It makes you think about what prison life is like and how a life can be damaged by committing a crime.

What I didn't like about the movie.

Some scenes touch you straight to the heart, personally there were a couple of scenes that while well done, left me with a feeling of sadness. I guess it depends on one's point of view.

Conclusion.

It is an encouraging film despite the situation it presents, it leaves a deep message about the situation in prison and the abuses that someone can suffer there. In the end it leaves you with a sense of justice and retribution that we would like to see fulfilled in real life.

If you have plans to enjoy a good movie this weekend, consider watching "Dreams of Escape" (The Shawshank Redemption) and enjoy it as a family. It's a good suggestion for the weekend

5 years this has been happening to me, it started here, around people that are still here. Homeland security has done nothing at all, they are not here to protect us. Dont we pay them to stop shit like this? The NSA, CIA, FBI, Police and our Government has done nothing. Just like they did with the Havana Syndrome, nothing. Patriot Act my ass. The American government is completely incompetent. The NSA should be taken over by the military and contained Immediately for investigation. I bet we can get to the sources of V2K and RNM then. https://peakd.com/gangstalking/@acousticpulses/electronic-terrorism-and-gaslighting--if-you-downvote-this-post-you-are-part-of-the-problem
