Greetings everyone! I hope you are doing very well and have had a very productive start of the month, today I want to share this post with you in order to describe my experience and personal opinion about the HBO series Euphoria, a series that was released in 2019 and of which it is expected that in this year 2023 the third installment of the same will be released. I must say that I heard about this series at the end of 2020 thanks to social networks, since it was a project that gained a lot of popularity due to the fact that the protagonist of this series was the renowned actress and singer Zendaya Coleman, who is already known since her beginnings in Disney. Despite hearing so much about this series and learning about the awards and nominations it was getting, I kept it on my wish list but I didn't finish watching it, it wasn't until 2 weeks ago that I decided to start it and just yesterday I finished the second season.

I consider that this series triggered in me a series of mixed feelings that I didn't expect, and I have a lot to talk about this film project so I decided to prepare a review for you so you can also be encouraged to watch it, even if you do it for the same reason as me (simple curiosity). I will try to be as clear as possible and not to extend so much in order to cover the two seasons and also give you my appreciation of the plot.

Season one begins knowing the life of Rue, a 17 year old teenager who is very affected by the illness and early death of his father due to cancer, Rue accompanied his father until his last days and during the process of his illness began to take pills that stole from his father's medication eventually, to later become a complete addict to the point of suffering a severe overdose which led her to the brink of death.

The story begins with the adventures of Rue after leaving rehab, therapy that did not help her because she was still as hooked on drugs as the first day of entering rehab, basically this girl is responsible for deceiving her family making them believe that she stays sober after rehab when it is not so, In this journey Rue meets Jules, a trans girl who has just moved to the suburbs with her father and once they meet at a school party, Rue and Jules manage to forge a strong friendship that leads them to fall in love, but not everything will be rosy because over time they begin to experience personal differences that lead them to move away and break up again, and again and again.

However, Jules' love does Rue some good, helping her to maintain her sobriety for a considerable period of time considering the extent of her addiction. Chapter by chapter we also get to know the lives of the other characters, who are a group of teenagers dealing with different problems, personalities and dysfunctional families. From the drug addict with questionable behaviors, to the teenager in love involved in a dangerous toxic relationship. Euphoria is described as a crude portrait of adolescence and the truth is that I could not agree more, because it is not the typical drama series that we are used to seeing, it is a very raw look at the reality that teenagers live today and the consequences of their decisions.

I must emphasize the scenography and makeup of this production because I feel it was the personal seal of it, the editorial style makeup, the mix of colors, the extravagant eyeliner and the excess of glitter took over this film in a good way. It is something that draws attention from the beginning of the series until the end of it and they have been given recognition for it, also the dark scenery and neon lights have been a topic of conversation and not to mention the imposing and fashionable costumes of certain characters.

Basically the first season deals with the process of discovery of each character, concerned about defining their own identity, also in sexual conflicts, love and personality, also visualize Rue a girl who despite trying to stay away from drugs, thanks to the depression so marked that faces relapses into addiction again and again and again without regret, and again and again and again without any regret, which I can describe is a bit depressing and at the same time feels a bit tiresome, as it is tiring to see the character always stuck in the same thing, but not for that Zendaya's performance deserves less recognition, because honestly she did a fantastic job with this kind of character.

The first season ends with the breakup between Jules and Rue as a result of Jules' abandonment, pushing Rue to an intense and very marked relapse to drugs, endangering her life more than she was already used to, because she begins to consume substances that were not in her itinerary before, such as heroin and fentanyl.

TEMPORADA 2

SEASON 2

Moving on to the second season, it must be said that it starts in a much more surprising and entertaining way than the previous one, because although Rue is still involved in her personal conflicts, the lives of the secondary characters are taking more of the viewers' attention. With the love breakup of the couple of the moment in high school and with the vulnerability of a teenager who always likes to get attention, a betrayal between friends comes out that leaves us speechless since the best friend of one of the girls starts seeing the boyfriend of the other on the sly. Crazy, no? but more real than we might think, because it is something that is lived day by day in teenage relationships and however questionable it may seem, I thought it was a very successful realistic touch to be included in the plot.

The family dysfunctionality that affects the most popular athlete in high school is also something to talk about, since it perfectly illustrates how much the traumas acquired in childhood affect and how they are reflected negatively in adolescence, in this case, it is exemplified by the inability to manage anger and even sexual identity conflicts (you should see the plot, and you will understand more deeply what I'm talking about. ) On the other hand, the rebirth of the shy and observant girl who always lived in the shadow of her sister is something to highlight this season, because many of us girls can identify with Lexi and our teenage selves because the feelings that come out of her story were present in the adolescence of most young girls her age.

New romances and some unexpected outcomes are part of the second season, the occasional sad event and revelations of shady secrets as well. We also see Ru again in one of her more depressing facets than all the previous ones and it could be said that in this one she really hits rock bottom, falling into substance trafficking, theft and vandalism at the same time, as well as forming relationships with dangerous people and once again breaking the hearts of her family who lose hope in seeing a change in Rue.

This is a series that makes you rise and fall, reflect, doubt and question your true purposes in life. It also makes you identify with the characters and I'm not talking about one in specific but with most of them, because whether we want to or not, we all at some point in our lives have been in the same situation and I'm not necessarily talking about being immersed in drugs, but in having a toxic relationship, putting ourselves in danger, doubting our personality or goals, about what we want to be and what we should be, as raw as this dramatic series is, it is able to move you fibers. The way in which it integrates so many topics in a single space and without any kind of taboo is also appreciated.

Some people found this series too exaggerated for its target audience, but I would say that this generation is already very exaggerated and therefore needs reflections that are of the same size of what they are facing. Between the two seasons I'll take the second one, because I didn't feel it as cliché as the first one and I even felt it was a little more realistic, it's also a season where we can notice the characters making the passes with themselves and with their surroundings, we also see a Rue willing to improve although will it be true? I don't know, we will find out in the third season but, the end of the second one is very complacent or at least a part of it leaving aside the situation that Fesco ends up going through.
