Contexto sincero

Honestamente nunca he sido fanática de Frankenstein, recuerdo haber visto algunos fragmentos, pero nunca fue una película que esperaría o desearía ver, especialmente porque hay muchas adaptaciones y versiones que se comenzaron hacer desde los años 30. Estuve revisando en internet y hay alrededor de 60 películas relacionadas a Frankenstein; tampoco he leído el libro de Mary Shelley (1818), conocido igualmente como Frankenstein o The Modern Prometheus (El moderno Prometeo).

Creo que es mejor ser honesta de mi desconocimiento y me despojo responsablemente de todo el compromiso de comparar este trabajo con el libro o con otra película. Sinceramente, estoy casi segura que la adaptación de Guillermo del Toro es la primera película que veo completa. Y admito, que precisamente porque se trata de este director, es que decidí ver el filme.

Sobre Guillermo si tengo referencias más frescas, y es que sus películas son monumentales y me gustan mucho. Para mí Guillermo logra transmitir sobre aquello que aparentemente es para el mundo: oscuro, raro, extraño y "feo", por el contrario guarda su propia luz y su belleza.

Ya recordarás que el mexicano tiene películas comercialmente muy conocidas, tales como el Laberinto del Fauno, Hellboy, la forma del Agua. Era 2006 cuando ví por primera vez el Laberinto del Fauno, para aquel momento me generó miedo, pero honestamente no es el fin de Guillermo, me parece que es algo más trascendetal y lo entendí años después.

Lo mismo ocurre con Frankenstein, no es una película sobre miedo, repito no genera miedo, su propósito es más especial y elocuente hacia los valores en la humanidad, la vida y la muerte, pero sobre todo la importancia de la continuación, el renacer del dolor y la miseria, a través del perdón.

Aunque no haya visto las anteriores películas, me parece que esta producción vale la pena verla, ya sea porque entretiene la trama, guarda profundidad en los diálogos y su mensaje. Actualmente, hay que escudriñar mucho para identificar filmes que nos den la oportunidad de reflexionar desde el pensamiento crítico.

Honest context
Honestly, I've never been a fan of Frankenstein. I remember seeing a few versions, but it was never a movie I would wait for or want to see, especially since there are so many adaptations and versions that have been made since the 1930s. I was looking online and there are about 60 movies related to Frankenstein; I haven't read Mary Shelley's book (1818), also known as Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus.
I think it's best to be honest about my ignorance and responsibly disclaim any commitment to compare this work with the book or another film. Honestly, I'm almost certain that Guillermo del Toro's adaptation is the first film I've seen in its entirety. And I admit that it's precisely because of this director that I decided to watch the film.
I do have more recent references about Guillermo, as his films are monumental and I like them very much. For me, Guillermo manages to convey what is apparently dark, weird, strange, and “ugly” to the world, but on the contrary, he keeps his own light and beauty.
You may recall that the Mexican director has commercially well-known films, such as Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy, and The Shape of Water. It was 2006 when I first saw Pan's Labyrinth, and at the time it scared me, but honestly, that's not Guillermo's intention. I think it's something more transcendental, and I understood that years later.
The same goes for Frankenstein. It is not a film about fear; I repeat, it does not generate fear. Its purpose is more special and eloquent, focusing on the values of humanity, life, and death, but above all, the importance of continuation, the rebirth of pain and misery, through forgiveness.
Even if you haven't seen the previous films, I think this production is worth watching, whether because the plot is entertaining, the dialogues are profound, or because of its message. Nowadays, you have to search hard to find films that give us the opportunity to reflect critically.

Frankenstein es una película con una duración de 2 horas y 30 minutos, así que requiere de atención, yo al principio pensé que quizás me aburriría en tanto tiempo, (mi esposo si se durmió por el cansancio y malestar de gripe que tenía), yo por mi parte quedé enganchada hasta el final.

Por otra parte, la producción también nos regala escenarios visuales atractivos en cuanto a la recreación de la época: los vestuarios, las casas y su mueblería, incluso lo fantástico de los detalles de los sarcófagos que salen durante algunas escenas.

Making of the film
Frankenstein is a film with a running time of 2 hours and 30 minutes, so it requires attention. At first, I thought I might get bored during such a long film (my husband did fall asleep because he was so tired), but I was hooked until the end.
On the other hand, the production also gives us attractive visual settings in terms of recreating the period: the costumes, the houses and their furnishings, even the fantastic details of the sarcophagi that appear in some scenes.

Beautiful main character: I find it striking how the director and the actors' performances achieve that similarity between the faun, the shape of water, and this Frankenstein character, represented in those grayish colors and elongated shapes. Hay muchos detalles interesantes que le dan a la película ese aire armónico, incluso notarás que en escenas que parecen muy perturbadoras y sin censura, la banda sonora le da un sentido distinto, que de hecho es algo particular que logra del Toro y te genera sensaciones y emociones diversas: resurgir de la nostalgia y oscuridad de la tristeza hacía la luz de la esperanza.

Este largometraje no es literal, juega a la creatividad, las metáforas, lo abstracto y sublime. En ese mundo gótico, crudo, oscuro y raro, está Elizabeth Lavenza (Mia Goth) un personaje conectada con la energía celestial y angelical, quien junto a Frankenstein (Jacob Elordi) también transmite la nobleza, pureza y la impoluta inocencia. Aclaro, no es una película de romance, es una película para y por el Amor, que es algo más grande, es una película que logra enmudecer el horror del mundo y te traspola para convencerte que, aún después de la tragedia, la desgracia, la pérdida, la condena, la tortura y el dolor hay que continuar viviendo mientras tengamos esa dicha.

Como ya sabrás, la historia de Frankenstein también es destacada por la relación con su creador: Víctor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), a quien logras tenerle rabia, rechazo y compasión, porque es un hombre jugando a ser Dios, a consecuencia de sus propios traumas infantiles que desencadenó fuertes obsesiones con la vida después de la muerte. Igualmente, la relevancia de permanecer en patrones de crianza que más tarde repite y repite. Tal cual ocurre en los núcleos familiares, la escuela, el sistema social, el espacio donde todo comienza y se moldean nuestros comportamientos y futuras decisiones.

This feature film is not literal; it plays with creativity, metaphors, the abstract, and the sublime. In this gothic, raw, dark, and strange world, we find Elizabeth Lavenza (Mia Goth), a character connected to celestial and angelic energy, who, along with Frankenstein (Jacob Elordi), also conveys nobility, purity, and unblemished innocence. Let me clarify, this is not a romance movie, it is a movie for and about Love, which is something greater. It is a movie that manages to silence the horror of the world and transports you to convince you that, even after tragedy, misfortune, loss, condemnation, torture, and pain, we must continue living as long as we have that joy.
As you may already know, the story of Frankenstein is also notable for its relationship with its creator: Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), whom you manage to feel anger, rejection, and compassion for, because he is a man playing God as a result of his own childhood traumas that triggered strong obsessions with life after death. Likewise, the relevance of remaining in parenting patterns that he later repeats over and over again. Víctor evidentemente, es una de los personajes más importantes de la película, sin él no hay Frankenstein. Esto me hizo pensar en el don de la creatividad, en esa capacidad que todas las personas tenemos para crear o destruir, sin medir las consecuencias.

Víctor está arrepentido de su "creación", la cual parece tosca, torpe y sin inteligencia... ¿será posible por parte de Frankenstein desarrollar la sabiduría y la conexión, necesaria para permanecer o desaparecer?, ya recordarás que Frankenstein no es cualquier mortal.
