La película inicia con Alex llegando con su novio a una reunión familiar, en la que se siente criticada por los comentarios de sus familiares que sí están casados con hijos y trabajos de importancia, mientras ella aún no ha dado ese pasó a la vida adulta. Apareciendo en primer plano su madre que le muestra claramente su desaprobación por el novio que tiene, tildándolo de inmaduro, y la anima a buscar a alguien más afín a ella, pero no le hace caso y más bien le dice que irá a vivir con él, por lo que terminan cambiando el tema y su mamá le confiesa que tiene cáncer, apoderándose un gran silencio en la escena aunado a la tristeza que sabemos que esta enfermedad ocasiona.

The film begins with Alex arriving with her boyfriend to a family reunion, where she feels criticized by the comments of her relatives, who are married with children and important jobs, while she has not yet taken that step into adulthood. Her mother appears in the foreground and clearly shows her disapproval for the boyfriend she has, calling him immature, and encourages her to look for someone more similar to her, but she does not listen to him and rather tells him that she will go to live with him, so they end up changing the subject and her mother confesses that she has cancer, a great silence takes over the scene together with the sadness that we know this disease causes.

Por lo que Elizabeth (Connie Britton) quien es la madre de Alex (Sofía Carson) la protagonista de esta historia; después de enterarse de que tiene cáncer y le queda poco tiempo de vida, desea hacerle el regalo más hermoso a su hija, con más valor que el monetario, empieza a grabar varias cintas con mensajes y consejos, embarcándola en una aventura personal, donde deberá enfrentarse con sus propios miedos para hacer sus sueños realidad; obsequiándonos a todos los espectadores una gran lección de vida, que nos enseñara a no traicionar nuestras metas, conformándonos con una vida cómoda que no nos genere ningún tipo de felicidad.

Sin duda alguna una vida no alcanza para todo lo que deseamos hacer cuando tenemos hijos, se activa un interruptor casi automático en el cerebro que hace que siempre queramos protegerlos, pero lamentablemente no existe la vida eterna aún, por lo que debemos aprender a dejarlos volar por sí mismos, no sin antes prepararlos para esta vida que no es nada fácil, darles bases sólidas en su educación para que sepan desenvolverse lo mejor que puedan y siempre se mantengan en el camino del bien, persiguiendo sus sueños y siendo persistentes hasta lograrlos. Pero tú ¿qué harías si te enteras de que tu tiempo se agota?, mientras ves que uno de tus hijos no es feliz y está llevando una vida muy distinta a la que se había imaginado, bueno al igual que Elizabeth tomas decisiones siempre movidas por el gran amor que sientes, y aunque no necesariamente van a ser aceptado tus consejos a primera instancia, tarde o temprano los hijos entenderán que es para su bien.

But what would you do if you find out that your time is running out, while you see that one of your children is not happy and is leading a life very different from what you had imagined, well, just like Elizabeth, you make decisions always moved by the great love you feel, and although your advice will not necessarily be accepted at first instance, sooner or later the children will understand that it is for their own good.

Me gustó mucho cada uno de los mensajes y consejos que se presentan en este film y la forma como Elizabeth se despidió de su hija, su presencia la acompaño por ese año entero mientras completaba la lista de deseos, la sintió tan cerca de ella que fue una forma bonita de decir adiós. I really liked each of the messages and advice presented in this film and the way Elizabeth said goodbye to her daughter, her presence accompanied her for that whole year while she completed the wish list, she felt so close to her that it was a nice way to say goodbye.
