Her birimizin içinde yaşadığı farklı dünyalar var. Bazen aynı evin içinde bile farklı hayatlar yaşayabiliyoruz. Bütün bu ayrıma rağmen bir aile olmaya özlem duyar ve arkadaş kalmaya devam etmek isteriz. Çünkü onu/onları kendi dünyamızda misafir ederek, çok bencilce belki ama, anlamak değil de kendimizi anlatmaya can atarız. Hepimiz kendimizi bir şekilde dışa vurmak isteriz, kimileri bunu ölçüsüzce yapar - kimilerine göre.

Her ne kadar gerçek hayat desem de film kurgusal bir hikayeye sahip. Bunun yanında psikolojik içeriği gayet gerçek. Başlık neden S-14? Özet olarak 2015 yılında Kanada’da iktidara gelen parti S-14 atfı ile bir yasa çıkarır. Bu yasaya göre ebeveynler finansal kısıtlarından dolayı bakamayacaklarını düşündükleri çocuklarını veya engelli çocuklarını devletin sağlık kurumlarına verebiliyorlar.

Film, Steve ismindeki ergenin okuldaki aşırı hareketlerinden dolayı annesinin kuruma çağrılması ile başlıyor. Diane çocuğu ile ilgili olarak okul yönetimi ile görüşüyor. Çıkışta okul yönetimi tarafından bahsi geçen yasa uyarınca devlete "teslim" edilmesinin salık verilmesi ile duygusal atmosfere giriş yapıyor film. Diane bu öneriyi kabul etmiyor ve anne olmasının getirdiği inanılmaz karakteri ile oğlunu topluma kazandırmaya çalışıyor.

Steve, ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) yani dikkat eksikliği ve hiperaktivite bozukluğu (DEHB) tanısına sahip. Sosyal bağlanma sorunları da var. Çevreye uyumsuzluktan dolayı gelişen her türlü zorluğa karşı koyabilen anne, bir noktadan sonra onu sağlık kurumuna teslim ediyor. Ama kesinlikle bu yıldığı için değil. Hemen öncesinde gelişen bir olay nedeni ile onu ancak bu şekilde koruyabileceğini düşünüyor. Tüm film boyunca Steve adeta gürlüyor. İçi dopdolu ve dışarı taşıyor. Sonda ise “öz-gürlüğüne” kendince gidiş yolu buluyor.

İzlemek isteyen olur diye çok detaya girmek istemiyorum. Bir de gizemli bir komşu kadın var. Çok faydası oluyor bu aileye. Sanırım onun da geçmişinde çocuğu ile ilgili bir durum olmuş. Öyle hissettim.

Müthiş bir mücadeleyi ve alınması gereken zor kararları anlatıyor film. Ayakta kalmak ve yürümeye devam etmek. Benim çok hoşuma gitti. Lakin film biraz uzun, 2 saati az geçiyor.
İzlemeye karar verdiyseniz şimdiden iyi seyirler dilerim.

Each of us lives in different worlds. Sometimes we live different lives even in the same house. Despite all this separation, we long to be a family and want to remain friends. Because by welcoming him/her/them into our world, selfishly perhaps, we long not to understand, but to tell them about ourselves. We all want to express ourselves in some way, some do it outrageously - according to some.

Although I call it real life, the movie has a fictional story. But the psychological content is very real. Also, why the title S-14? To summarize, in 2015, the party that came to power in Canada passed a law referred to as S-14. According to this law, parents can put their children to state’s medical institutions if they have difficulties because of financial constraints or their children are disabled/troubled.

The movie starts with a teenager named Steve whose mother is called to the school because of his aggressive behavior. Diane meets with the school administration about her child. On the way out, the school administration suggests that he should be "handed over" to the state in accordance with the aforementioned law. Diane refuses to accept this suggestion and tries to reintegrate her son into society with her incredible character as a mother.

Steve has a diagnosis of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). He also has social attachment problems. The mother, who is able to withstand all kinds of difficulties that develop due to environmental maladaptation, at some point hands him over to a medical institution. But it is definitely not because she is frustrated. She thinks that this is the only way she can protect him because of an incident that happened just before. Throughout the whole movie, Steve rumbles. He's overflowing. As if he is looking for an exit. At the end he finds his own way to "self-liberation".

I don't want to go into too much detail in case anyone wants to watch. There's also a mysterious neighbor woman. She helps this family a lot. I think she also had something in her past with her child. That's how I felt.

The movie is about a great struggle and the difficult decisions that have to be made. To stand up and keep going. I liked it very much. But the movie is a bit long, a little over 2 hours.
