Kitty is looking forward to her own true love story after being a spectator of her sister Lara's love story, and seems to have found her ideal guy, Dae, a young man she met during her trip to Korea and with whom she has been in a long-distance relationship for years; Kitty travels to Korea to study at the same international high school "KISS" as Dae and plans to surprise him with the news during the welcome meeting, but when they were finally about to have their romantic reunion, Kitty discovers that Dae is dating Yuri, a young girl who helped her when she first arrived in Korea, heartbroken and humiliated by a small accident, Kitty leaves the party feeling betrayed.

.

The next day, with her bags packed, Kitty is determined to return home, as her reason for staying in Korea seems to make no more sense, but while walking around the place before saying goodbye to the country and her relationship with Dae, Kitty comes across a special location, the same place of her mother's pictures from when she was studying at KISS, At that moment Kitty remembers that she not only traveled so far for her now ex-boyfriend Dae, but also to learn more about her mother, with a new motivation, Kitty decides to stay in Korea more than determined to enjoy her stay there and learn more about her mom's past, although the drama will not stop following her; With more than peculiar dorm mates, a "romantic" rival she finds more and more interesting, and the constant presence of Dae, Kitty's life will never take a break.

I honestly had high expectations with this series, despite not having been a huge fan of the "To All the Boys" trilogy I found myself enjoying to some extent all the cute and chaotic teen romance and cliché story problems, so upon learning that Xo, Kitty would follow the life of one of the characters from said films, I found myself curious about it, and after the first trailer that promised that the series would be an exciting fusion between the world of k-dramas and classic American romance movies I couldn't help but feel excited about it and looked forward to its premiere, although the results weren't what I expected.

If there is any word I can use to describe this series it might be "pretentious", at the beginning it promised to be a simple love triangle of a young girl who wanted to live new stages of her life, but then it added family mysteries, secondary romances that added little to the plot, more family drama, a love interest generated from one second to another, more romantic drama, and finally, another family mystery and an open ending because... Why not?... that mix was honestly too much, and the cherry on the cake was undoubtedly the short length of the episodes (which did not help when it came to develop the characters and the plot problems) and a script full of awkward dialogue and interactions that felt unnatural on more than one occasion.

I think it was a bit of a shock to see Kitty, the main character, with a cliché Disney movie personality, someone who could get away with a lot without much consequence (like breaking into a hospital to get information, and ending up trying to steal private data and get away with it) and who always seemed to have her nose in a new drama, which was disappointing as I remember the "To All the Boys" movies where she was just a kid entering adolescence, but she possessed a fun, optimistic, cunning and even mature personality that didn't end up feeling heavy, and one would hope - at least for fans of the saga - that there would be some character evolution now that she's a teenager capable of traveling halfway around the world to reunite with her boyfriend, but instead I feel like I'm watching the classic questionable wattpad protagonist

What I can rescue the most from this series are the characters who in general were quite charismatic, they all had their own charm and had stories that I would have liked to see more in depth. In my opinion the best built character in the whole series was Yuri (played by Gia Kim), the typical k-drama rich girl who doesn't really have the best family life, but whose development and personality manages to captivate you. Also Dae, who had a story with a lot of potential but wasn't explored further (While it's understandable because the protagonist of the story is Kitty, sometimes it's sad to see interesting characters being left out) Minho, a arrogant and questionable guy, who was in charge of adding most of the charisma that this series comes to possess, and Q, your trusted friend who is always there to support you. As for the performances, I don't think I can really go too much into it other than to tell you that most of the main characters just had regular performances, nothing out of this world and some better than others, but they certainly didn't benefit from the script they were given to work with.

Other redeemable aspects of the series were the inclusion of Korean culture throughout the story, although I feel that sometimes it felt too "Americanized" to be set in Korea, they did a good job portraying certain traditions and customs of that country, although there were details such as clothing and some cultural clashes that could have been done better, and last but not least, the kpop! I'm really a fan of this musical "genre", so I enjoyed more than one scene only and exclusively for the music I got to hear.

My overall opinion of this series is that it had potential, but as I mentioned before the inclusion of too many sub-plots to the story was not adequately addressed and as a result we have a young adult novel that goes nowhere, which gets frustrating, I would have liked them to stick to a single theme, Kitty dealing with a culture and country unknown to her and heartbreak, or Kitty traveling to Korea to create a connection with her mother and discover secrets from her past, or Kitty making new friends and discovering new aspects of her sexuality, But all this in a 10 episode series of barely 25 minutes long per episode with a poor script? No, it just didn't work for me

I didn't consider it something groundbreaking, even though it has the potential to be as this fusion of k-drama and American entertainment will definitely continue to grow in the coming years, and while it wasn't the best series Netflix could put out, I don't consider it the worst either; I think it's a cute and fun option to watch especially if you're more inclined towards the teen romance genre and want something to entertain you for a while. (Mind you, I may not have liked this series but after so much chaos and unnecessary twists, I'm really curious to see what will happen in the second season).

Gracias por leer!
