Until I finally got to see Minecraft the movie based on one of the best selling video games of all time, I remember my kids were playing it and also watching youtubers playing it to learn the tricks, I think it managed to capture the visual part of the game but maybe not so much the creative part because the truth is I was expecting a little more. The movie stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black and takes us through that world of blocks and pixelated creatures that is visually impressive, maybe I do not know much about the phenomenon of Minecraft what I know is for what little I saw my children and well I found it entertaining but I think it lacked depth or is like a little simple story. In the plot there are four characters from the real world that are transported to the Minecraft universe where they must join Steve because he is their only wild card to return home.

Hasta que por fin pude ver Minecraft la película basada en uno de los videojuegos más vendidos de todos los tiempos, recuerdo que mis hijos se la pasaban jugandolo y también veían a youtubers jugar para aprenderse los trucos, me parece que se logró capturar esa parte visual del juego pero quizás no tanto su parte creativa pues la verdad yo esperaba un poco más. La película está protagonizada por Jason Momoa y Jack Black y nos lleva por ese mundo de bloques y criaturas pixeladas que resulta visualmente impresionante, quizás yo no sé mucho sobre el fenómeno de Minecraft lo que sé es por lo poco que veía a mis hijos y bueno me pareció entretenida pero creo que le faltó profundidad o sea es como un poco simple la historia. En la trama hay cuatro personajes del mundo real que son transportados al universo de Minecraft donde deben juntarse con Steve porque es su único comodín para regresar a casa.

For me the real problem with A Minecraft Movie is in its script and character development, which seem to be secondary to the game references and jokes, although Jack Black puts a lot of energy into the character of Steve, he seems to be a parody and at the same time is very exaggerated. Jason Momoa plays Garrett Garrison, a guy who used to be a video game pro and now owns a retro game store, his character is like a big kid who is stuck in the past, and what I didn't like is the character or the script itself because you can tell that Momoa tries to do everything he can with such an unsavory character the sad thing is that not even his muscles managed to save him hehehe and the other characters are practically null, especially Danielle Brooks who seems to be there just for filler because she has no real purpose in the plot. Although the movie talks a lot about creativity and imagination they didn't apply this, it's one of the least creative movies I've seen, and it just shows recognizable elements of the game instead of building a meaningful story around them, I think this is what annoyed me the most, it's as if the creators had a checklist of things to include from the game without worrying about how to integrate them into the story.

Para mí el verdadero problema de A Minecraft Movie está en su guión y desarrollo de personajes, que parecen ser secundarios frente a las referencias del juego y los chistes, aunque Jack Black pone bstante energía en el personaje de Steve, parece que fuera una parodia y a la vez es muy exagerado. Jason Momoa interpreta a Garrett Garrison, un tipo que antes era un profesional de los videojuegos y ahora tiene una tienda de juegos retro, su personaje es como un niño grande que está atrapado en el pasado, y lo que no me gustó es el personaje o el guión en sí porque se nota que Momoa trata de hacer todo lo que puede con un personaje tan desabrido lo triste es que ni sus músculos lograron salvarlo jejeje y los demás personajes son prácticamente nulos, en especial el de Danielle Brooks que parece estar ahí solo por relleno porque no tiene ningún propósito real en la trama. Aunque la película habla mucho sobre la creatividad y la imaginación no aplicaron esto o sea es una de las peli menos creativa que he visto, y nada más muestra elementos reconocibles del juego en lugar de construir una historia significativa alrededor de ellos creo que esto es lo que más me fastidió, es como si los creadores hubieran tenido una lista de verificación de cosas que incluir del juego sin preocuparse por cómo integrarlas en la historia.

Throughout the movie it's all about showing random moments and references from the game and I can come to ewnteder that this surely entertains the younger fans but leaves the adults wishing for something with more substance at some point I said enough is enough, the script seems improvised and I felt that the story never ends up finding its focus, plus that message about the importance of creativity and imagination is absurd in front of what it shows. Despite all this there are moments that are funny and I can't deny the chemistry between some characters that makes it work well in certain scenes as is the case of Momoa and Jack Black, the soundtrack is fine and reminded me of when my kids played it. I'm sure that fans of the game surely liked the numerous winks and references, like the homage to Technoblade a popular Minecraft content creator who passed away, I saw the movie with my kids and I can assure you that they enjoyed it and if they read this article they will think I'm criticizing it a lot hehehe.

Durante toda la película es mostrar momentos random y referencias del juego y puedo llegar a ewnteder que eso seguro entretiene a los fanáticos más jóvenes pero que dejan a los adultos deseando algo con más sustancia en algún momento dije ya basta, el guión parece improvisado y sentí que la historia nunca termina de encontrar su enfoque, además ese mensaje sobre la importancia de la creatividad y la imaginación es absurdo frente a lo que muestra. A pesar de todo esto hay momentos que son divertidos y no puedo negar la química entre algunos personajes que hace que funcione bien en ciertas escenas como es el caso de Momoa y Jack Black, la banda sonora está bien y me recordó a cuando mis hijos lo jugaban. Estoy segura de que a los fanáticos del juego seguramente le gustó los numerosos guiños y referencias, como el homenaje a Technoblade un popular creador de contenido de Minecraft que falleció, yo vi la película junto con mis hijos y puedo asegurar que ellos la disfrutaron capaz si leen este artículo van a pensar que la estoy criticando mucho jejeje.

I remember when I saw the first trailers I was not very convinced because it seemed to me that the CGI was exaggerated but the truth was not the disaster I expected and I laughed a lot in several moments, maybe it is not the best adaptation I've seen and I think it could have been better if they had taken a little risk and focused on a story with more content and had a great message and had left a little that part of obvious references that only fans like, because surely this didn't bother Minecraft fans and they will be delighted with the movie, but the rest of us like me will quickly forget about this movie, in my case at least I was only left with the memory of a visually impressive world but with a hollow plot.

Recuerdo que cuando vi los primeros trailers no me convencía mucho porque me parecía que el CGI era exagerado pero la verdad no resultó ser el desastre que me esperaba en cuanto a eso y me reí muchísimo en varios momentos, quizás no es la mejor adaptación que he visto y a mí parecer pudo haber sido mejor si se hubiesen arriesgo un poco y se centraban en una historia con más contenido y que tuviera un gran mensaje y se hubiese dejado un poco esa parte de referencias obvias que le gusta solamente a los fanáticos, porque seguramente esto no le molestó a los fans de Minecraft y estarán encantados con la película, pero los demás como yo nos olvidamos rápido de esta película en mi caso por lo menos solo me quedó el recuerdo de un mundo visualmente impresionante pero con una trama hueca.

My score for A Minecraft Movie is 6/10, I don't know if my kids will agree but I can't give it more, I think that although it manages to capture the aesthetics of the game it didn't hit the nail on the head with creativity, for me they missed a great opportunity to make something that was special and had enough intellect, I think they chose the safe path and focused on easy references and random humor that may work for the audience that is a fan but leaves much to be desired for those who are not and in the end when you make a movie you are supposed to want to reach the whole audience, something very different with The Lego Movie which is another adaptation of a construction game and was a tremendous movie, for me the creators of Lego did manage to balance the humor, the emotion and added an important message about creativity. I think Minecraft remained only on the surface, despite its success at the box office because I read in an internet news that it is the second highest grossing movie of this 2025 and surely we will have a second part but I wonder if it will be the same and even the fans will get tired of the emptiness it leaves, I think the movie was a mess and looks more like a Minecraft cube without purpose, I hope the sequel can learn from the mistakes of this first part.

Mi puntuación para A Minecraft Movie es de 6/10, no sé si mis hijos estarán de acuerdo pero no puedo darle más, creo que aunque logra capturar la estética del juego no dio en el clavo con la creatividad, para mí perdieron una gran oportunidad para hacer algo que fuera especial y que tuviera bastante intelecto, creo que escogieron el camino seguro y se concentraron en las referencias fáciles y humor random que puede funcionar para el público que es fanático pero que deja mucho que desear para los que nop lo son y al final cuando haces una peli se supone que quieres llegarle a todo el público, cosa muy diferente con The Lego Movie que es otra adaptación de un juego de construcción y fue tremenda película, para mí los creadores de Lego si lograron balancear la prte del humor, la emoción y le añadieron un mensaje importante sobre la creatividad. Creo que Minecraft se quedó solo en la superficie, a pesar de su éxito en taquilla porque leí en una noticia de internet que es la segunda película más taquillera de este 2025 y seguramente tendremos una segunda parte pero me pregunto si será igual y hasta los fanáticos se cansaran del vacío que deja, yo opino que la película fue un despelote y se parece más a un cubo de Minecraft sin propósito, espero que la secuela pueda aprender de los errores de esta primera parte.
