I saw Atlas a science fiction movie starring Jennifer Lopez, it is not very common to see JLo in this type of genre, she fits me more in comedy and romantic movies and well the movie is not very good either. Here Jennifer is a data analyst who has the mission to capture an artificial intelligence that caused a massive destruction on Earth, the plot seemed to me more of the same I mean for the part of the mission itself and also has a mixture of several science fiction elements that we have seen before as Aliens, I Robot and Avatar with those mechanical suits. Although it has good visual effects, especially in the action sequences but I felt that the film lacked depth in some themes especially in the consequence of wanting to humanize the AI, I do not know if it is this lack of originality is a common problem of many of Netflix's sci-fi movies lately.

Vi Atlas una película de ciencia ficción protagonizada por Jennifer López, no es muy común ver a JLo en este tipo de género me encaja más en películas de comedia y románticas y bueno la película tampoco es que sea muy buena. Aquí Jennifer es una analista de datos que tiene la misión de capturar a una inteligencia artificial que causó una destrucción masiva en la Tierra, la trama me pareció más de lo mismo lo digo por la parte de la misión en sí y también tiene una mezcla varios elementos de ciencia ficción que ya hemos visto antes como de Aliens, I Robot y de Avatar con esos trajes mecánicos. Aunque tiene buenos efectos visuales, sobre todo en las secuencias de acción pero sentí que a la película le faltó profundidad en algunos temas sobretodo en la consecuencia de querer humanizar a la IA, no sé si es esta falta de originalidad es un problema común de muchas de las películas de ciencia ficción de Netflix últimamente.

Atlas takes place in a future where AI has been integrated into human society, the protagonist Atlas Shepherd is a brilliant data analyst who has spent her life chasing a rogue AI named Harlan who was created by Atlas' mom but broke free from her programming and launched an attack that killed millions of people and fled earth to hide on a planet and prepare another attack against humanity. Atlas doesn't trust the AI but despite this joins the mission to capture him, working with his team who pilot AI-assisted mech suits. When they reach the planet the ship is attacked and in order for Atlas to survive he must wear one of these programmed suits and has to work and make a vehicle with this AI named Smith. At this point I did not find the plot original because it is predictable that story that does not trust the AI but must learn to do and overcome his traumas and prejudices and although the film wants to show deeper issues about the relationship between humans and technology, this is not well developed.

Atlas pasa en un futuro en el que la IA se ha integrado en la sociedad humana, la protagonista Atlas Shepherd es una brillante analista de datos que se ha pasado la vida persiguiendo a una IA rebelde llamada Harlan que fue creada por la mamá de Atlas, pero se liberó de su programación y lanzó un ataque que mató a millones de personas y huyó de la tierra para esconderse en un planeta y preparar otro ataque contra la humanidad. Atlas no confía en la IA pero a pesar de esto se une a la misión para capturarlo, trabajando con su equipo que pilotan trajes mecánicos asistidos por IA. Cuando llegan al planeta la nave es atacada y para que Atlas pueda sobrevivir debe usar uno de esos trajes programados y tiene que trabajar y hacer un vículo con esta IA que se llama Smith. En este punto ya no me pareció original la trama porque es predecible esa historia de que no confía en la IA pero debe aprender a hacer y superar sus traumas y sus prejuicios y aunque la película quiera mostrar temas más profundos sobre la relación entre los humanos y la tecnología, esto no se desarrolla bien.

Although Jennifer Lopez seems to be committed to the role I felt that the script doesn't give her much to work with, but it must have been a challenge because she is weighed down the whole movie with a mechanical suit, at some point I felt suffocated and this woman even has action scenes with that suit on, I don't know how she did it. Simu Liu seemed to me that he was wasted in the role of Harlan has nothing to do but to be looking ugly and it's a shame because he has charisma, well he showed it in Shang Chi which by the way I liked that movie quite a lot. Sterling K. Brown and Mark Strong are also wasted, so this movie didn't hit it in many things neither in the performances well I think it's in the script because these actors are talented.

Aunque se ve que Jennifer López se compromete con el papel me pareció que el guión no le da mucho con lo que trabajar, pero debió haber sido todo un reto porque se la pesa toda la película con un traje mecánico, en algún momento me llegué a sentir sofocada y esta mujer hasta tiene escenas de acción con ese traje puesto, no sé como lo logró. Simu Liu me pareció que fue desaprovechado en el papel de Harlan no tiene nada que hacer más que estar mirando feo y es una lástima porque tiene carisma, bueno así lo demostró en Shang Chi que por cierto esa película me gustó bastante. Sterling K. Brown y Mark Strong también están desaprovechados, así que esta película no la pegó en muchas cosas ni en las actuaciones bueno creo que es en el guión porque estos actores tienen talento.

The visual effects are good especially the design of the mech suits and the fight scene in the air when Atlas plummets towards the surface of the planet, director Brad Peyton worked on movies like San Andreas and Rampage and here he showed that he knows how to put on the show. What disappointed me was how predictable the story seemed, from the moment Atlas reluctantly gets into the mech suit, it's clear where the story is going, I had already guessed most of the movie before it happened and I wasn't wrong, there was no surprise. I also found the film's message about AI confusing, on the one hand it acknowledges the dangers of technology that can think for itself and on the other it seems to show that the solution is to embrace AI by forming deeper connections with it and it doesn't address the ethical issues it raises but reduces everything to a personal journey to overcome trust issues.

Los efectos visuales son buenos sobre todo el diseño de los trajes mecánicos y la escena de pelea en el aire cuando Atlas se cae en picada hacia la superficie del planeta, el director Brad Peyton trabajó en películas como San Andreas y Rampage y aquí demostró que sabe como montar el espectáculo. Lo que me decepcionó fue lo predecible que parecía la historia, desde el momento en que Atlas se mete a regañadientes en el traje mecánico, está claro hacia dónde se dirige la historia, ya yo había adivinado la mayor parte de la película antes de que ocurriera y no me equivoqué, no hubo ninguna sorpresa. También me pareció confuso el mensaje de la película sobre la IA, por un lado reconoce los peligros de la tecnología que puede pensar por sí misma y por otro parece que muestra que la solución es abrazar la IA formando conexiones más profundas con ella y no trata los temas éticos que plantea sino que reduce todo a un viaje personal para superar problemas de confianza.

In the finale there is a fight between Atlas and Harlan where the true nature of their connection is revealed, it turns out that Atlas' mother created Harlan using Atlas' brain patterns as a child and turned him into a sort of technological twin, this explains why Atlas has always felt a strange connection to him but this was also not a surprise I had already been figuring it out along the way, Harlan's turn against humanity was not random but stemmed from the same childhood trauma and abandonment issues Atlas experienced but processed differently. In this final fight Atlas and Smith synchronize and become something strange they are neither human nor are they AI and this allows them to match Harlan to defeat him. The ending brings together all the themes like Atlas's distrust of the AI to his acceptance and it seems that the message the movie wants to give is that humans and AI can complement each other but this did not seem original to me especially in this boom of the technological age and so much debate that there is with this topic, a while ago I saw a reels about the AI can spy on you and know where you are so I felt that in the movie they lacked to show what are the consequences of this idea of having a connection with the AI. My score for Atlas is 5.5/10 for me this movie is average and it's not going to revolutionize the sci-fi genre, the story is predictable and it only has good visual effects, it entertained me but it didn't leave any lasting impression.

En el final hay una pelea entre Atlas y Harlan donde se revela la verdadera naturaleza de su conexión, resulta que la madre de Atlas creó a Harlan utilizando los patrones cerebrales de Atlas cuando era niña y lo convirtió en una especie de gemelo tecnológico, esto explica por qué Atlas siempre ha sentido una extraña conexión con él pero esto tampoco fue una sorpresa ya me lo venía imaginando en el camino, el cambio de Harlan contra la humanidad no fue aleatorio, sino que surgió del mismo trauma infantil y de los mismos problemas de abandono que experimentó Atlas, pero procesados de forma diferente. En esta pelea final Atlas y Smith se sincronizan y se convierten en algo extraño no son humanos ni son IA y esto les permite igualarse a Harlan para derrotarlo. El final une todos los temas como la desconfianza de Atlas hacia la IA hasta su aceptación y parece que el mensaje que quiere dar la película es que los humanos y la IA pueden complementarse pero esto no me pareció nada original sobre todo en este boom de la era tecnológica y tanto debate que hay con este tema, hace un rato vi un reels sobre que la IA te puede espiar y saber donde estás entonces me pareció que en la película les faltó mostrar cuáles son las consecuencias de esta idea de tener una conexión con la IA. Mi puntuación para Atlas es de 5.5/10 para mí esta película es d nivel medio y no va a revolucionar el género de ciencia ficción, la historia es predecible y solo tiene buenos efectos visuales, me entretuvo pero no me dejó ninguna impresión duradera.
