When I saw Missing I had no idea what it was about, I had never seen the trailer or heard about the movie, I was just there in the streaming looking for what to see and I hit play and I found it quite interesting because it kept me glued to the screen, the whole movie takes place through computer screens and phones, it looked a lot like Searching and when I realized I understood the reason, it is from the same creative team the ones who were editors before are now directors, in fact it is their debut as directors, but this is not a sequel they only share some very subtle references. Missing is about an 18 year old girl named June who finds herself in a desperate situation because her mom Grace and her boyfriend Kevin disappeared during a vacation in Colombia and begins to search for her using the technological tools at hand such as social networks, security cameras and tracking applications. Of course this young woman is generation Z and handles technology wonderfully to solve problems, you can see how she goes through tabs of applications and platforms at full speed, well we millennials are not far behind with technology but I still find it a little difficult, although I am a millennial almost starting I do not know if that's why hehehe.

Cuando vi Missing no tenía idea de que se trataba, nunca había visto el tráiler ni escuchado sobre la peli, solo estaba allí en el streaming buscando que ver y le di play y me pareció bastante interesante porque me mantuvo pegada a la pantalla, toda la película se desarrolla a través de pantallas de computadoras y teléfonos, se me pareció mucho a Searching y cuando me di cuenta entendí la rzón, es del mismo equipo creativo los que antes fueron editores ahora son directores, de hecho es su debut como directores, pero esto no es una secuela solo comparten algunas referencias muy sutiles. Missing trata sobre una joven de 18 años que se llama June que se encuentra en una situación desesperante porque su mamá Grace y Kevin el novio de esta desaparecieron durante unas vacaciones en Colombia y comienza a buscarla usando las herramientas tecnológicas que tiene a la mano como redes sociales, cámaras de seguridad y aplicaciones de rastreo. Por supuesto esta joven es generación Z y maneja la tecnología de maravilla para resolver problemas, se ve como va por pestañas de aplicaciones y plataformas a toda velocidad, bueno los millennials no nos quedamos muy atrás con la tecnología pero a mí todavía me cuesta un poco, aunque yo soy de los millennials casi comenzando no sé si será por eso jejeje.

I thought it was a bit exaggerated how fast she finds clues and hacks accounts, but well it's a movie and in the end the plot has to move forward, which means it has a good pace and doesn't bore you, and also the story has many changes when I thought I knew where everything was going there was a change that I didn't expect and then another and another and so on, some work very well and others perhaps are not so credible, but the important thing is that I kept your interest and made me want to know what the fuck was really going on with June's mother. The entire film is viewed through June's MacBook or her iPhone, and the way directors Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick handled this I thought was very creative, because the transition between apps and of the activity on the computer is very fluid, it feels like you are watching someone use their computer in real time, but in a way that is still cinematic yet entertaining.

Si me pareció un poco exagerado lo rápido que encuentra pistas y hackea cuentas, pero bueno es una película y al final la trama tiene que avanzar, lo que significa que tiene buen ritmo y no te aburre, y además la historia tiene bastantes cambios cuando yo creía que sabía hacia dónde iba todo había un cambio que no me esperaba y luego otro y otro y así, algunos funcionan muy bien y otros quizás no son tan creíbles, pero lo importante es que mantuve el tu interés y me hizo querer saber qué carajo estaba pasando realmente con la madre de June. Toda la película se ve a través de la MacBook de June o su iPhone, y la manera en que los directores Nicholas D. Johnson y Will Merrick manejaron esto me pareció muy creativa, porque el paso entre aplicaciones y de la actividad en la computadora es muy fluido, parece como si estuvieras viendo a alguien usar su computadora en tiempo real, pero de una manera que sigue siendo cine y a la vez entretenida.

I liked Storm Reid's performance, she plays the role of June is in every scene and shows emotions very well through a webcam, something that doesn't seem so simple to me. The mom is Nia Long and although she doesn't appear a lot of time she does very well but the one who stole my attention the most was Joaquim de Almeida as Javi, a Colombian worker that June hires through a TaskRabbit type app to help her investigate in Colombia, because he gives enough humor to the story and takes some tension out of it. Something that made me reflect was our vulnerability of privacy with all these tools because they use all the apps and platforms that we all use every day, like Google Maps, social networks, messaging apps and at one point and I got to thinking that all the information I sometimes keep in the cloud.

Me gustó la actuación de Storm Reid, ella hace el papel de June está en todas las escenas y muestra muy bien las emociones a través de una webcam, algo que no me parece tan sencillo. La mamá es Nia Long y aunque no aparece mucho tiempo lo hace muy bien pero el que más se robó mi atención fue Joaquim de Almeida como Javi, un trabajador colombiano que June contrata a través de una aplicación tipo TaskRabbit para que la ayude a investigar en Colombia, porque da bastante humor a la historia y le quita cierta tensión. Algo que me hizo reflexionar fue nuestra vulnerabilidad de la privacidad con todas estas herramientas porque usan todas las aplicaciones y plataformas que todos usamos a diario, como Google Maps, redes sociales, aplicaciones de mensajes y en un momento y me puse a pensar que toda la información que a veces guardo en la nube.

The first part goes very well because the pace keeps you hooked as June is discovering clues and putting together the puzzle of her mother's disappearance, but when it gets more than half way through some of the revelations and changes seem a bit forced and not very believable, there are moments where I wondered why the police and the FBI are not doing the same investigative work that this 18 year old girl manages to do from her computer...and some of the coincidences are too convenient for the plot. The bad guy in the story has a super complicated plan that when you think about it doesn't make much sense, he could have achieved his goal in a much simpler way without all the elaborate international deception, but I guess then the movie wouldn't exist hehehe. Another thing that doesn't make much sense is that June goes into accounts and systems that in real life would be much better protected but well again it's a movie and it needs to advance the plot so I'll give it a pass, what I can't give it such an easy pass is the ending, which was somewhat disappointing after all the tension built up, and some things were resolved in a very convenient way for everything that happened.

La primera parte va muy bien porque el ritmo te mantiene enganchado mientras June va descubriendo pistas y armando el rompecabezas de la desaparición de su madre, pero cuando llega a más de la mitad algunas de las revelaciones y cambios parecen un poco forzados y poco creíbles, hay momentos donde me pregunté por qué la policía y el FBI no están haciendo el mismo trabajo de investigación que esta chica de 18 años logra hacer desde su computadora? y algunas de las coincidencias son demasiado convenientes para la trama. El malo de la historia tiene un plan super complicado que cuando lo piensas no tiene mucho sentido, pudo haber logrado su objetivo de una manera mucho más sencilla sin todo el elaborado engaño internacional, pero supongo que entonces no existiría la película jejeje. Otra cosa que no tiene mucha lógica es que June entra a cuentas y sistemas que en la vida real estarían mucho mejor protegidos pero bueno de nuevo es una película y necesita avanzar la trama así que se lo paso, lo que no le puedo pasar tan fácil es el final, que fue algo decepcionante después de toda la tensión acumulada, y algunas cosas se resolvieron de una forma muy conveniente para todo lo que pasó.

My score for Missing is 7/10, it's worth watching especially if you liked Searching or are intrigued by the concept of a story told through digital screens, it has enough changes that keep you interested and the use of technology to tell the story is quite innovative plus it reflects our current reality where much of our lives happens online, the performances are quite good, what I didn't like was the ending I felt it wasn't up to par, I was expecting a little more after everything that happened and it left me with more questions than answers.

Mi puntuación para Missing es 7/10, vale la pena ver sobre todo si te gustó Searching o te intriga el concepto de una historia contada a través de pantallas digitales, tiene bastantes cambios que te mantienen interesado y el uso de la tecnología para contar la historia es bastante innovador además de que refleja nuestra realidad actual donde gran parte de nuestras vidas ocurre en línea, las actuaciones son bastante buenas, lo que no me gustó fue el final me pareció que no estuvo a la altura, yo esperaba un poco más después de todo lo que pasó y me dejó con más preguntas que respuestas.
