One of Them Days (2025)- REVIEW - [ENGLISH-SPANISH]
It's been a while since I've seen a comedy movie that grabbed me from the first minute and that happened with One of Them Days I think this movie directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Serita Singleton is guaranteed fun, I liked that it's kind of a tribute to those friendships that survive any disaster, even if one of the two is constantly screwing things up for both of them. Keke Palmer and SZA are Dreux and Alyssa, two friends who live in the most fucked up area of LA, where the manager is up to his eyeballs in waiting for rent and threatens them with eviction if they don't pay him by six in the evening. So what should be a normal day turns into an epic odyssey when they discover that Alyssa's no-good boyfriend stole the rent money to spend it on T-shirts and other bullshit, the worst part is that these two friends have nine hours to come up with fifteen hundred dollars or end up on the street.
Tenía tiempo que no veía una película de comedia que me atrapara desde el primer minuto y eso pasó con One of Them Days yo creo que esta peli dirigida por Lawrence Lamont y escrita por Serita Singleton es diversión garantizada, me gustó que es una especie de homenaje a esas amistades que sobreviven a cualquier desastre, por más que una de las dos esté constantemente cagando las cosas para ambas. Keke Palmer y SZA son Dreux y Alyssa, dos amigas que viven en la zona más jodida de LA, donde el administrador está hasta la coronilla de esperar la renta y las amenaza con sacarlas si no le pagan antes de las seis de la tarde. Así que lo que debería ser un día normal se convierte en una odisea épica cuando descubren que el novio inútil de Alyssa se robó el dinero de la renta para gastárselo en camisetas de y otras pendejadas, lo peor es que estas dos amigas tienen nueve horas para conseguir mil quinientos dólares o terminar en la calle.
The movie is pure chaos from minute one, with such absurd situations that make you laugh even when you know that in real life you would be crying, but that's what makes it so entertaining. And I think it works so well because the leads are naturally funny together, SZA as Alyssa shows that she's a natural at acting I think this is her first starring role, she's that friend who's always on cloud nine but somehow manages to make you love her despite all the problems she brings you. Keke Palmer is Dreux and she is the more responsible of the two, she works and is trying to get a promotion while dealing with the messes her best friend makes. Alyssa's boyfriend is played by Joshua David Neil and of course he is the typical bum who lives off of others and manipulates women with his physique. Also appearing is Aiza Scott as Bernice has a don't fuck with me attitude that makes you laugh every time she appears, Cat Williams is Lucky, a sort of neighborhood guardian angel who tries to help the girls.
La película es puro caos desde el minuto uno, con situaciones tan absurdas que te hacen reír hasta cuando sabes que en la vida real estarías llorando, pero eso es lo que la hace tan entretenida. Y yo creo qwue funciona tan bien porque las protagonistas son naturalmente divertidas juntas, SZA como Alyssa demuestra que tiene talento natural para la actuación creo que este es su primer papel como protagonista, es esa amiga que siempre está en las nubes pero que de alguna manera logra que la quieras a pesar de todos los problemas que te trae. Keke Palmer es Dreux y es la más responsable de las dos, trabaja y está tratando de conseguir un ascenso mientras lidia con los desastres que arma su mejor amiga. El novio de Alyssa si esa es otra de las locuras jejeje es interpretado por Joshua David Neil y por supuesto que es el típico vago que vive de los otros y se la pasa manipulando a las mujeres con su físico. También aparece Aiza Scott como Bernice tiene una actitud de no me jodas que te hace reír cada vez que aparece, Cat Williams es Lucky, una especie de ángel guardián del barrio que trata de ayudar a las chicas.
I really liked this female friendship theme, it seems like these two are lifelong friends and have been through everything together, more stories like this that are true are needed. You never doubt why Dreux is still friends with Alyssa despite all the problems she causes her, because SZA manages to make her character so charismatic that you understand perfectly why someone would love her with all her mistakes. The situations the main characters go through are absurd, from donating blood in a place where the nurse has no idea what she's doing to stealing shoes and power cables and being chased by a local gangster. I liked that the movie is quite colorful and that the Angels are like another character in the story, especially in the scenes where they have to run through the streets of the neighborhood running away from Bernice who is chasing them.
Me gustó mucho este tema de amistad entre mujeres, parece que estas dos son amigas de toda la vida y que han pasado por todo juntas, hace falta más historias así que sean verdaderas. Nunca dudas de por qué Dreux sigue siendo amiga de Alyssa a pesar de todos los problemas que le causa, porque SZA logra hacer que su personaje sea tan carismático que entiendes perfectamente por qué alguien la amaría con todos sus errores. Las situaciones por las que pasan las protagonistas son absurdas, desde donar sangre en un lugar donde la enfermera no tiene idea de lo que está haciendo hasta robar zapatos y cables de electricidad y ser perseguidas por un gánster local. Me gustó que la peli es bastante colorida y que los Ángeles es como un personaje más de la historia, especialmente en las escenas donde tienen que salir corriendo por las calles del barrio huyendo de Bernice que las persigue.
What I didn't like is that late in the movie King Lolo enters as the main bad guy who wants to kill them for the stolen shoes, it seemed to me that it was like they didn't know how to end the story and decided to add some danger that doesn't completely fit with the tone of the rest of the movie. However they manage to get out of the mess they got themselves into, they organize an impromptu art sale where they live to raise the money they need and yes this seemed a bit forced but it worked because you see the growth of the characters and the importance of community. During the movie these friends Dreux and Alyssa have a big fight and both say hurtful things that they have been holding back is pretty real and honest because even though you have a friendship and love each other sometimes you have to say what you don't agree with.
Lo que no me gustó es que ya avanzada la peli entra King Lolo como el malo principal que quiere matarlas por los zapatos robados, me pareció que era como que si no sabían muy bien cómo terminar la historia y decidieron agregar algo de peligro que no encaja completamente con el tono del resto de la película. Sin embargo llegan a salir de todo el lío en que se metieron, organizan una venta de arte improvisada en donde viven para recaudar el dinero que necesitan y si esto me pareció un poco forzado pero funcionó porque se ve el crecimiento de los personajes y la importancia de la comunidad. Durante la película estas amigas Dreux y Alyssa tienen una pelea grande y ambas dicen cosas hirientes que han estado guardando es bastante real y honesto porque aunque uno tenga una amistad y se quiera a veces tiene que decir con lo que no está de acuerdo.
I liked One of Them Days, it entertained me for the hour and a half it lasts and I would even watch it again in a few months when I want to see something light and funny. My rating is 7/10 because of how funny and fresh it is, the story feels real and the performances are good, Keke Palmer has a lot of charisma and SZA you can tell she has a future. This movie reminded me of my girlfriends, some of us may be disastrous but we are always together for support, I would definitely watch it on a girls night out, although it has its moments that aren't great especially when they mess up but it has enough heart and humor to keep you entertained from start to finish. If you're looking for something to watch on a weekend when you don't want to think too much but you do want to laugh for a while, this movie is an excellent choice that won't disappoint, plus it will make you appreciate a little more those crazy friendships we all have in our lives.
Me gustó One of Them Days, me divirtió durante la hora y media que dura y hasta volvería a verla en unos meses cuando quiera ver algo ligero y divertido. Mi puntuación es 7/10 por lo divertida y fresca que es, la historia se siente real y las actuaciones son buenas, Keke Palmer tiene mucho carisma y a SZA se le nota que tiene futuro. Esta película me recordó a mis amigas, algunas podemos ser desastrosas pero siempre estamos juntas para apoyarnos, definitivamente la vería en una noche de chicas, aunque tiene sus momentos que no son muy buenos sobretodo cuando meten pero tiene suficiente corazón y humor para mantenerte entretenido de principio a fin. Si buscas algo para ver un fin de semana cuando no quieres pensar demasiado pero sí quieres reírte un rato, esta película es una excelente opción que no te va a decepcionar, además de que te va a hacer apreciar un poco más a esas amistades locas que todos tenemos en nuestras vidas.
