The truth is Smile 2 left me quite disappointed after all the hype they put on it, I was expecting something more similar to the first movie that I liked but this was like a watered down and commercial version that was only made to please the masses without having its own soul. Parker Finn came back as director but it seems like he forgot what made the first part special because here everything seems like it's calculated and predictable as if they brainstormed to decide every scare and plot twist hehehehe. Naomi Scott does her best as Skye Riley but her character is so poorly written that you never connect with her, she's a conceited and narcissistic popstar who is always screaming or crying and I didn't even care about what was happening to her. The movie starts off strong with Kyle Gallner reprising his role as Joel but they kill him off in the first few minutes in a scene that seems more contrived than a natural continuation of the story, it would have been much more interesting to follow his story instead of jumping to this new character who frankly doesn't have half the charisma. That idea of transferring the curse to a celebrity with millions of followers may sound great on paper but the execution falls short because it seems like they're just using it as an excuse to throw in more blood and expensive special effects. The whole fame and media pressure thing is pretty shallow, as if the screenwriters had seen I think they thought that by throwing in a few clichés about the music industry they had enough depth to justify two hours of film and it wasn't like that.

La verdad Smile 2 me dejó bastante decepcionada después de todo el bombo que le metieron por todos lados, yo me esperaba algo mas parecido a la primera película que si me había gustado bastante pero esto fue como una versión aguada y comercial que solo se hizo para complacer a las masas sin tener alma propia. Parker Finn regresó como director pero parece que se le olvidó que fue lo que hizo especial a la primera parte porque aquí todo parece como si está calculado además es predecible como que hicieron una lluvia de ideas para decidir cada susto y cada giro de la trama jejeje. Naomi Scott hace lo que puede como Skye Riley pero su personaje está tan mal escrito que nunca logras conectar con ella, es una popstar engreída y narcisista que siempre está gritando o llorando y la verdad ni me llegó a importar lo qe le pasaba. La película arranca fuerte con Kyle Gallner retomando su papel de Joel pero lo matan a los primeros minutos en una escena que parece más inventada que una continuación natural de la historia, hubiera sido mucho mas interesante seguir su historia en lugar de saltar a este nuevo personaje que francamente no tiene ni la mitad del carisma. Esa idea de trasladar la maldición a una celebridad con millones de seguidores puede sonar uy bien en el papel pero la ejecución se queda corta porque parece que solo lo usan como excusa para meter más sangre y efectos especiales caros. Todo el rollo de la fama y la presión mediática es bastante superficial, como si los guionistas hubieran visto creo wue pensaron que con meter algunos clichés sobre la industria musical ya tenían profundidad suficiente para justificar dos horas de película y no no fue así.

What I liked least about Smile 2 is that they threw out the window all the rules they had left in the first movie, now the entity can do whatever it wants without any logic or consistency. The scares are all the same, people smiling in a creepy way followed by a loud noise that doesn't really scare, you can tell they relied too much on noise to create tension instead of building real atmosphere. The hallucinations are so exaggerated that they lose all the wonder, in the first film there was some doubt about what was real and what wasn't but here everything is so obvious that you never doubt what is going on. Lukas Gage appears as Lewis the drug dealer and although his death is well done to the technical I found it a carbon copy of scenes I had seen before. The obsession with the blessed Voss water bugged me after the tenth time you see her drinking the stuff, enough is enough they put it in the soup. Drew Barrymore shows up playing herself in the show and while I thought it was funny for a few seconds, it was also like unnecessary filler that gave nothing to the main story. Ray Nicholson as Paul Hudson the dead boyfriend is okay but his character exists only to justify Skye's trauma.

Lo que menos me gustó de Smile 2 es que tiraron por la ventana todas las reglas que habían dejado en la primera película, ahora la entidad puede hacer lo que se le de la gana sin ninguna lógica o consistencia. Los sustos son todos iguales, gente sonriendo de manera creepy seguido de un ruido fuerte que no asusta de verdad, se nota que dependieron mucho del ruido para crear tensión en lugar de construir atmosfera de verdad. Las alucinaciones están tan exageradas que pierden todo el asombro, en la primera película había cierta duda sobre lo que era real y que no pero aquí todo es tan obvio que nunca dudas de lo que está pasando. Lukas Gage aparece como Lewis el repartidor de drogas y aunque su muerte está bien hecha a lo técnico me pareció una copia de papel carbón de escenas que ya había visto antes. La obsesión con la bendita agua Voss ya me fastidió después de la décima vez que la ves bebiendo esa cosa, ya fue suficiente la metieron hasta en la sopa. Drew Barrymore aparece haciendo de ella misma en el show y aunque me pareció divertido por unos segundos, también fue como relleno innecesario que no le dio nada a la historia principal. Ray Nicholson como Paul Hudson el novio muerto está bien pero su personaje existe solo para justificar el trauma de Skye.

The worst problem Smile 2 has is that it doesn't respect the audience's intelligence, everything is explained ad nauseum as if we were five year olds who can't understand a hidden meaning. The mother manager played by Rosemarie DeWitt is the typical adult character who doesn't understand and only serves to create conflict which by the way is quite artificial and is only there for when the story gets slow. Dylan Gelula as Gemma the best friend also doesn't have much to do other than show up when the script needs someone to tell Skye that she is acting weird, these characters are definitely obligatory filler instead of real people that exist in the world of the movie. Peter Jacobson shows up as Morris the guy who supposedly knows how to break the curse but that whole subplot comes later and to me it was that they realized too late that they needed to give us some kind of hope so it wouldn't be so depressing. The scene in the abandoned Pizza Hut is ridiculous and it's clear they shot it on a cheap set, all the tension they had built up is lost when you realize you're watching actors pretending to be scared in a place that is obviously fake. Miles Gutierrez Riley as Joshua the assistant is there to make bad jokes and be the comic relief but what he says is so poorly written that I felt sorry for him. The soundtrack also hit it because it tries to sound like real pop music but you can tell it's very generic, Skye Riley's songs don't sound like something that would be in the first place I felt it lacked some personality.

El peor problema que tiene Smile 2 es que no respeta la inteligencia del público, todo está explicado hasta el cansancio como si fuéramos niños de cinco años que no podemos entender un significado oculto. La madre manager interpretada por Rosemarie DeWitt es el típico personaje de adulto que no entiende y que solo sirve para crear conflicto que por cierto es bastante artificial y solo está para cuando la historia se pone lenta. Dylan Gelula como Gemma la mejor amiga tampoco tiene mucho que hacer mas que aparecer cuando el guión necesita que alguien le diga a Skye que está actuando raro, estos personajes son definitivaente un relleno obligatorio en lugar de personas reales que existen en el mundo de la película. Peter Jacobson aparece como Morris el tipo que supuestamente sabe como romper la maldición pero toda esa subtrama aprece después y para mi fue que se dieron cuenta muy tarde que necesitaban darnos algún tipo de esperanza para que no fuera tan deprimente. La escena en el Pizza Hut abandonado es ridícula y se ve claramente que la filmaron en un set barato, toda la tensión que habían construido se pierde cuando te das cuenta que estás viendo actores fingiendo estar asustados en un lugar que obviamente es fake. Miles Gutierrez Riley como Joshua el asistente está ahí para hacer chistes malos y ser el alivio cómico pero lo que dice está tan mal escrito que me dio pena ajena. El soundtrack también la pegó porque trata de sonar como música pop real pero se nota que es muy genérico, las canciones de Skye Riley no suenan como algo que estaría en primer lugar me pareció que le faltaba algo de personalidad.

The special effects are way overdone they look like a cpmiquita each demon transformation is more exaggerated than the last until you lose all sense of dread and start laughing at how absurd it all looks. The final scene at the concert was supposed to be the climax but it feels out of place because by that point I had seen so many fake hallucinations that it didn't matter if it was real or not. The message about trauma and mental health is watered down, they try to touch on serious issues like addiction and abuse but they do it in such a superficial way it didn't feel genuine to me. I also think they abuse too much of the reverse shots that by the way had already become cliché since the first movie, every time they turn the camera I knew a cheap scare was coming and although the pace was decent I felt that the movie lasted thirty minutes longer than necessary, there are too many subplots that go nowhere and characters that appear and disappear for no reason. Another thing is that the environment should look dark, dirty and rather it looks too clean and produced, I didn't believe I was in a real world but it looked like an expensive movie set.

Los efectos especiales están muy sobrecargados parecen una cpmiquita cada transformación del demonio es mas exagerada que la anterior hasta que pierdes toda sensación de terror y empiezas a reírte de lo absurdo que se ve todo. La escena final en el concierto se suponía que iba a ser el lo maximo pero se siente fuera de lugar porque ya para ese punto había visto tantas alucinaciones falsas que no importaba si era real o no. El mensaje sobre trauma y salud mental está diluido, intentan tocar temas serios como la adicción y el abuso pero lo hacen de manera tan superficial la verdad no me pareció que fuera algo genuino. Además creo que abusan demasiado de los planos invertidos que por cierto ya se habían vuelto cliché desde la primera película, cada vez que voltean la cámara ya sabíua que venía un susto barato y aunque el ritmo decente sentí que la película duró treinta minutos mas de lo necesario, hay demasiadas subtramas que no van a ningún lado y personajes que aparecen y desaparecen sin ninguna razón. Otra cosa es que el ambiente debería verse como oscuro, sucio y más bien se ve demasiado limpio y producido, no me creía que estaba en un mundo real sino que parecía un set de película cara.

I think Smile 2 is an unnecessary sequel it seems to me that it exists only because the first one made money and not because they had an interesting story to tell or something new to bring to the table. Although Parker Finn proved with the first one that he had potential as a horror director here I don't know if it was that others got in too deep and didn't let him do his job well but the result was a movie that is nothing special. My score is 6/10 I think it's a step backwards compared to what they achieved in 2022, I hope if they make a third part they go back to the roots of what made this franchise work in the first place. It's a shame because the concept of expanding the curse through a massive concert had potential but they wasted it on expensive special effects and over the top performances that don't look real. If you like cheap scares and don't care that the movie makes sense maybe it will amuse or entertain you for a while otherwise I recommend you watch something else, I was really looking for something with more substance and more when I liked the first movie.

Yo creo que Smile 2 es una secuela innecesaria me parece que existe solo porque la primera hizo dinero y no porque tuvieran una historia interesante que contar o algo nuevo que aportar. Auqnue Parker Finn demostró con la primera que tenía potencial como director de terror aquí no sé si fue que otros metieorn demasiado la mano y no lo dejaron hacer bien su trabajo pero el resultado fue una película que np tiene nada de especial. Mi puntuación es 6/10 creo que es un paso atrás comparado con lo que lograron en 2022, espero que si hacen una tercera parte regresen a las raíces de lo que hacía funcionar esta franquicia en primer lugar. Es una lástima porque el concepto de expandir la maldición a través de un concierto masivo tenía potencial pero lo desperdiciaron en efectos especiales caros y actuaciones exageradas que no se ven reales. Si te gustan los sustos baratos y no te importa que la película tenga sentido tal vez te divierta o te entretenga por un tiempo sino te recomiendo que veas otra cosa, yo la verdad estaba buscando algo con más sustancia y más cuando la primera película si me gustó.
