There are a lot of things going on in my country these days and I prefer to clear my mind writing, I chose Trap a thriller by M. Night Shyamalan that I saw a few weeks ago, this guy never seems to get old, you see him in pictures and he always looks the same, for me his unforgettable movies are Signs and The Village are always some reference in a conversation for whatever reason, too bad Trap is not as good, for me it was a little disappointing. It's about a seemingly normal looking father who takes his daughter to a pop concert but it turns out to be an FBI undercover operation, at first this intrigued me because it sounds interesting in thinking about a serial killer trapped at a concert with thousands of people while trying to cover up his double life by pretending to be a loving father. As the movie progressed all that interest was lost and I didn't like how the plot or the characters developed.

En mi país están pasando muchas cosas estos días y prefiero despejar la mente escribiendo, escogí Trap un thriller de M. Night Shyamalan que vi hace unas semanas, este tipo pareciera que no envejeciera nunca, tú lo ves en fotos y siempre está igual, para mí las películas inolvidables de él son Signs y The Village siempre son alguna referencia en una conversación por cualquier razón, lástima que Trap no es igual de buena, para mí fue un poco decepcionante. Trata sobre un padre que parece normal y lleva a su hija a un concierto de música pop pero resulta que es una operación encubierta del FBI, al principio esto me intrigó porque suena interesante en pensar en un asesino en serie atrapado en un concierto con miles de personas mientras intenta tapar su doble vida haciéndose pasar por un padre cariñoso. A medida que la película avanzaba todo ese interés se fue perdiendo y no me gustó como se fue desarrollando la trama ni los personajes.

As I said Cooper is the father who goes with his daughter Riley to the concert of a pop star, at first everything seems normal but soon you discover something shady and is that Cooper is something else. When he realizes that there are a lot of cops and a lot of security in place he senses that something is not right and it is because of a conversation he has with a traveling salesman that he discovers that it is all an FBI trap to catch a serial killer known as The Butcher and guess what? it turns out to be him. The best part is that this was revealed at the beginning of the movie and it gets one's interest as it's better to know the reason why Cooper is trying to escape like a madman. The first part of the movie had a good level of tension as Cooper tried to find a way out without his daughter knowing anything and even though he knew Cooper was a serial killer he was on his side hehehehe it's just that the movie plays with your mind and makes you root for him, but already later on in the other half it was losing the action. Cooper leaves the stage and it seemed to me that the thriller I was watching became something scattered and less convincing, the way in which Cooper escapes makes you see that it is not that he is very smart but that the cops are incompetent so that game of cat and mouse at the beginning ceases to be interesting.

Como les dije Cooper es el padre que va con su hija Riley al concierto de una estrella del pop, al principio todo parece normal pero pronto se descubre algo turbio y es que Cooper es algo más. Cuando se da cuenta que hay muchos policías y mucha seguridad en el lugar el siente que algo n o está bien y es por una conversación que tiene con un vendedor ambulante que descubre que todo es una trampa del FBI para atrapar a un asesino en serie conocido como El Carnicero y adivinen qué? resulta que es él. Lo mejor es que esto se reveló al inicio de la película y logra el interés de una ya que es mejor saber la razón por la que Cooper intenta escapar como un loco. La primera parte de la película tenía un buen nivel de tensión mientras Cooper trataba de encontrar una salida sin que su hija se enterara de nada y a pesar de que sabía que Cooper era un asesino en serie estaba de su lado jejeje es que la película juega con tu mente y te hace apoyarlo, pero ya después en la otra mitad se fue perdiendo la acción. Cooper abandona el escenario y me pareció que el thriller que venía viendo se transformó en algo disperso y menos convincente, la forma en la que Cooper escapa hace ver que no es que él sea muy listo sino que los policías son unos incompetentes entonces ese juego del gato y el ratón del inicio deja de ser interesante.

The performances are good, maybe Josh Hartnett's as Cooper is what saves the movie, I liked the way he leads that double life, he looks like a loving dad but turns out to be a cold-blooded killer, I could say it's one of his best performances and he proves to be more than a heartthrob for the roles he played in his beginnings. Ariel Donoghue is Riley and although she doesn't do bad I felt that her character didn't have much to do beyond being the daughter, the bad thing is that there isn't much chemistry between them rather the relationship seems forced. Saleka Night Shyamalan is Lady Raven the singer and I think she did well knowing that she is not an actress. Hayley Mills is the FBI who runs the operation to catch the killer and I thought her character was not well developed.

Las actuaciones si son buenas, quizás la de Josh Hartnett como Cooper sea lo que salve un poco la película, me gustó la forma como lleva esa doble vida, parece un papá cariñoso pero resulta ser un asesino a sangre fría, podría decir que es una de sus mejores actuaciones y que demuestra ser más que un rompecorazones por los papeles que le tocó hacer en sus inicios. Ariel Donoghue es Riley y aunque no lo hace mal me pareció que su personaje no tenía mucho que hacer más allá de ser la hija, lo malo es que no hay mucha química entre ellos más bien la relación parece forzada. Saleka Night Shyamalan es Lady Raven la cantante y creo que lo hizo bien sabiendo que ella no es actriz. Hayley Mills es la FBI que lleva la operación para atrapar al asesino y me pareció que su personaje no se desarrolló bien.

The ending of Trap seemed interminable to me because it had several false endings and when it really came I felt it was rushed, it happened to me like in the story of the wolf. Cooper manages to escape the concert and goes very quietly home maintaining his facade but the FBI is not far behind and they make Cooper unable to maintain his double life, in the end his mask falls off completely. Although there is a change in the way Cooper is captured, I felt it didn't have the impact of Shyamalan's other movies or at least from my point of view, I don't know if I put too many expectations on Trap because I really like this director's work. For me the ending is ambiguous and it felt more like Shyamalan ran out of ideas, I was left not knowing what the point of it all was beyond watching a serial killer try to escape from a trap for two hours.

El final de Trap me pareció interminable porque tuvo varios falsos finales y cuando de verdad llegó sentí que fue precipitado, me pasó como en el cuento del lobo. Cooper logra escapar del concierto y se va muy tranquilo a su casa manteniendo su fachada pero el FBI no se queda atrás y hacen que Cooper no pueda mantener su doble vida, al final su máscara se cae por completo. Aunque hay un cambio en la forma en que Cooper es capturado, sentí que no tenía el impacto de las otras pelis de Shyamalan o por lo menos desde mi punto de vista, no sé si yo puse muchas expectativas sobre Trap porque me gusta mucho el trabajo de este director. Para mí el final es ambiguo y me pareció más que Shyamalan se quedó sin ideas, me quedé sin saber qué sentido tenía todo, más allá de ver a un asesino en serie intentar escapar de una trampa durante dos horas.

My score for Trap is 5.5/10 I don't know if I'm being too harsh but I think it would have been more interesting to know more about Cooper and what led him to be that serial killer, the movie only says that he killed people but doesn't show what led him to that nor all the psychology behind it, something that would have been more interesting and more convincing than the simple role of father by day killer by night. I didn't like the ending either and as I told you the movie has two parts, the first one has tension and is well done and the second one is messy and disappointing, although I am a Shyamalan fan I wouldn't dare to recommend Trap.

Mi puntuación para Trap es de 5.5/10 no sé si estoy siendo muy dura pero creo que hubiese sido más interesante saber más sobre Cooper y que lo llevó a ser ese asesino en serie, en la película solo se dice que mató a personas pero no muestra lo que lo llevó a eso ni toda la psicología que hay detrás, cosa que hubiese sido más interesante y más convincente que el simple papel de padre de día asesino de noche. El final tampoco me gustó y como les dije la película tiene dos partes, la primera tiene tensión y está bien hecha y la segunda es desordenada y decepcionante, aunque yo soy fan de Shyamalan no me atrevería a recomendar Trap.
