Deserter pursuit season one was quite hooking. It was like watching a story that you wouldn’t want to end. The ending quite leave an impression as well and the cinematography left me in awe. I am sure for many who watched the first season back in the day was also hoping that the season 2 would also left memorable impression. However, I have to say that second season was much inferior than the first one.

The second season started off quite strong revolving the aftermath after the first season finale. It starts similar to the season 1 with some D.P who was assigned just because their connection. Then it’s fast forward to a deserter who shoot up the barracks and injured a few of his fellowman and a few death casualties as well. The main character, Jung Hae In (An Jun Ho) is still there as well as his co-worker who will be present quite later in the film. It is revealed that after the first finale, Ho Yeol is suffering though elective mutism where he can’t speak. Only after a while, he was able to speak again.

Then An Jun Ho himself at one point deserted his post because he found out about how the military has been doing cover up for a lot of cases that happened in the military. But he was stopped by Ho Yeol and others who believe that it wasn’t his intention to be a deserter.

Ever since the beginning, Jun Ho was quite a complex character. He was like calm before the storm type of person. He follows order and doesn’t speak much. He is also willing to break the rules to save the weak. At the same time, witnessing everything during the chase of deserter and constant bullies in the military, it makes him quite conflicted. Meanwhile his partner, remain flat and just a balance to An Jun Ho characteristic and personal development. Although they are still cinematic and stunning as the first season, some of the stories were quite boring.

It wasn’t like the first season where every story as it unfolds was quite an interesting and gripping. During the first season,they take you around and eventually reaching the finale, which was cold, and the ambience was as colder as how it ends. In season 2, there’s also something surprising,a twist that relates to the first season. This is why it's still worth watching as it attempts to connect both season with that simple twist. Although after all, in the story, nothing really changes much when it comes to military handling situations. It is heartbreaking especially when you see the characters who went through pain even death didn’t really get the justice they deserve.

Should you still watch season 2 ?

Definitely. It has some connection to the first season and though it’s not that bad, I personally find some of the episodes quite boring. But to pierce everything together, it’s still a must watch. Considering that there’s quite a gap between the two season, I am sure those watch it back in 2021 was enthusiastic about it. For me, who spend the entire weekend to watch it made me feel a little ungrateful as I don’t have to wait quite long just to know how the cliffhanger ends and the twist that it has.

I have to say that if you have not check out D.P, you should. It’s a pretty good south Korean drama that’s different from your average romcom and what you typically see about south Korean drama.
