In Western culture, human beings are not taught to accept the physical loss of loved ones. It is a pain that is not overcome even with the passage of time and what keeps us going are the memories. We embrace so tightly the moments lived by their side that it is hard to let them go. Maybe some people consider that it is bad to hold on to those memories, I think it is worse not to have them. The moments we lived and gave us happiness, we try to feel them again because they soothe the aching soul.

Some believe that their opinion is the only valid one and that of others is wrong. As for my ancestors and relatives who are no longer on earth, from my point of view it is necessary that they rest in peace. It is not good to be obsessive, because love and dedication are given life. It is totally different, remembering the moments lived, that fills us with joy and connects with our soul. To having an obsession, living in the past and not in the present. I think, from my point of view, it is not healthy for emotional health.

For sure, we don't know what happens after death. For me, mourning defines people's feelings and extremes are toxic. At this point, I don't know if there will be a period for mourning, I think everyone must live it in their own way. Maybe some would really like to see us leave quickly, but others do it for control and try to make us do what they want and try to dispose of our lives, as if we were puppets. They start with a few chants:

-Don't keep on lighting up because it's bad.

Each one has the free will to see in what way, when and where he honors his ancestor. The one who wishes to do so is to visit the cemetery, go to church, among others. And whoever cannot, should not do it. For me, special dates make me sad and, in my case, I try to counteract it with positive thoughts and activities that keep me busy. "Nonnas" made me go back to the past and see my father making his hallacas, my manita, her pineapple quesillo and Lis, her pastas with peasant sauce. I am still not over the losses. En la cultura occidental no se enseña al ser humano a aceptar las pérdidas físicas de los seres queridos. Es un dolor que no se supera ni siquiera con el paso de los años y lo que nos sostiene en pie son los recuerdos. Abrazamos tan fuerte los momentos vividos a su lado que cuesta dejarlos ir. Quizás algunas personas consideran que es malo aferrarnos a esos recuerdos, creo que es peor no tenerlos. Los momentos que vivimos y nos dieron felicidad, intentamos volver a sentirlos porque apaciguan el alma adolorida.
Algunos creen que su opinión es la única válida y la de los demás es errada. En cuanto a mis ancestros y familiares que ya no están en la tierra, desde mi punto de vista es necesario que descansen en paz. No es bueno ser obsesivos, porque el amor y la dedicación se dan vida. Es totalmente diferente, recordar los momentos vividos, que nos llena de alegría y se conecta con nuestra alma. A tener una obsesión, vivir en el pasado y no en el presente. Creo, desde mi punto de vista, que no es sano para la salud emocional.
A ciencia cierta, no sabemos qué sucede después de la muerte. Para mí, el luto define los sentimientos de las personas y los extremos son tóxicos. A estas alturas, no sé si habrá un periodo para el duelo, creo que cada quien debe vivirlo a su manera. Quizás algunos de verdad quisiera vernos salir rápidamente, pero otros lo hacen por el control y tratan de que hagamos lo que ellos quieren e intentan disponer de nuestra vida, como si fuéramos unos títeres. Comienzan con unas cantaletas:
-Hasta cuándo te vas a poner luto-,
-No llores tanto-
-No sigas alumbrando porque eso es malo-
Cada quien tiene el libre albedrío de ver en qué forma, cuándo, y dónde honra a su ancestro. El que desea hacerlo es visitar el cementerio, ir a la iglesia, entre otros. Y el que no pueda, que no lo haga. A mí, las fechas especiales, me ponen triste y, en mi caso, trato de contrarrestarlo con pensamientos positivos y actividades que me mantengan ocupada. Hay que recordar que la vida continúa.
“Nonnas” me hizo volver al pasado y ver a mis padres haciendo sus hallacas, a mi manita, su quesillo de piña y a Lis, sus pastas con salsa campesina. Todavía no supero las pérdidas. Por esta razón me toco las fibras porque sé lo que se siente perder a los que más amamos. También de que si se trabaja por lo que deseamos, se puede lograr. Si lo dudan, pregúntele a Joey.
