Romantic and unforgettable melodies from the movies (9).png

Even if, at this point in the game, human beings don’t believe it or look away when the subject comes up, the mind—or “my little crazy one,” as I call mine—is the one that rules and decides. It creates a movie, a story, and most of the time, a fantasy. It transmits this to the brain, and the brain brings it to life in the real world. And even if other people claim that’s not how it works, nothing can make you change your mind—and this only reinforces the truth. At this very moment, you set your destiny in motion, “without meaning to, but wanting to,” as El Chavo del Ocho said.

The mind “doesn’t play games,” as we say in Venezuela—it’s malevolent and manipulative; some people spend their whole lives caught up in that game, and it’s up to us whether everything turns out well or badly. Life begins to revolve around this and that: good or bad luck, the evil eye, curses, and “stop counting.” In Venezuela—I don’t know if this is the case in other countries—we used to blame black cats for everything that happened to us. When I was a little girl and we were in the mood to be mean, we’d say:

"Malucia" of the black cat!

Believe it or not, friends at #Movies&TVShows, we blame everything outside ourselves and don’t realize that it’s the mind—the culprit and the villain of fairy tales—that’s to blame. That’s what happened to my friend Isabel in the telenovela “Amorcito corazón”; she spent part of her life believing in the “curse of the bull” and her bad luck in love.

Oh, girl, this one!

Anyway, the soap opera ended, and I don’t know if it was Isabel who brought on the bad luck or if she really was cursed. But these things do happen, and just in case—and I mean just in case—you have to be careful, cross yourself when you leave the house, and above all, keep your plans a secret.

As I always say, thank goodness I’m not a soap opera star—because even the seven plagues of Egypt would befall me. Just imagine! If they cast the “cat’s evil eye” on me—as we used to say in the troupe—and straightened my cute, tousled hair, what a nightmare! I was almost on the verge of becoming a soap opera star. Get ready to hear this “gossip”: Mom met a very well-known Venezuelan writer, Delia Fiallo, and told her that I was a hopeless crybaby.

Believe it or not, Ms. Delia Fiallo insisted that I be a stand-in for Marina Baura or Lupita Ferrer, because they didn’t want to cry—it would ruin their makeup and their snot would run—so they needed someone to cry for them. But Daddy said, “No means no.” He knew why—just imagine, my friend from #Hive—it would bring all that bad luck into my home and my whole life.

“The black cat's ‘evil eye’!”

Poor little black kittens; since ancient times, humans have been very afraid of them. But the real danger, dear friends of #Hive, is the mind. Anyway, you have to protect yourself because they say: “They’re flying, they’re flying…” Seriously, I was only worried about my little curls. Can you imagine? Mafa with straight hair—what a horror!

There you go!

Karmic Bed

Until finally Isabel managed to channel her energy, covered her mind’s eyes, and said, “You’re not going to mess with me,” just like that famous president said. Let me have my karmic bed. Oh my. The soap opera didn’t really emphasize this point, but it caught my attention. Well, Isabel managed to take the bull by the horns, kick it, and kick it out of her life. So she could enjoy Fernando. OMG! Sorry, guys, I meant the “karmic bed.”

Seriously, everything happens to the main characters—even getting run over by a train. “Amorcito corazón” was a prime example of how a crazy mind can mess things up. Isabel and Fernando couldn’t get out of one problem before they got into an even bigger one. Damn it! Bad luck! That black cat’s curse! Sometimes—or very rarely—love, love despite everything, and goodness come out on top.

This somewhat crazy love story, full of curses and bad luck in love, premiered on Televisa in 2011. My applause goes out to its creators, directors, screenwriters, the cast, and everyone behind the production, as it’s one of the best—and having watched many telenovelas, I can say that with confidence. They paid close attention to the details, the climax, and the well-explained ending.

All in all, it’s a great production. I don’t know if you’ll understand what I’m about to say—this is just my very personal opinion: when you enjoy a series, movie, or soap opera, most of them focus on the bad moments and, in the end, don’t explain what happened to the characters. For me, all of them are important—from the candy seller or the secretary to the main characters. The outcome for each of them makes all the difference.

![Spanish]

Me dejas tener mi cama kármica.

And Cordero Ate the Wolf, and That’s the End of the Story…

I’m always exaggerating—it’s not the story of Little Red Riding Hood, it’s the soap opera “Amorcito Corazón”; my friend Isabel Cordero and Fernando Lobo fell in love, according to him, when he saw her legs because her skirt flew up. Oh my! This couple has chemistry. Above all, the girl in the story—with her bad luck and the bull’s curse—isn’t a long-suffering or whiny protagonist; she’s a go-getter.

Fernando, that old pervert and fox, had all kinds of misfortune because he was a fool or just unlucky, as we say in my country. Years of friendship with the “Rayovac battery” or his friend and compadre Felipe’s plane didn’t do him any good. I liked that Felipe ended up alone with his guayabera shirt hanging out. But—there’s always a “but”—he chose to be who he is, a womanizer, and to live his life that way, because that’s what makes him happy. This character is worthy of a very specialized study. Anyway, people are who they are, and they don’t change. The important thing is to accept yourself and move forward.

“I'm a bit of an extremist,” my sister @dorytagil2022 always tells me. In life, there are exceptions, and we have to look at the bigger picture—because this is a case where people really can change the way they live, and this is exemplified by the character “Del Willy” and what he's capable of doing for the love of Lucía.

All the characters are iconic, and each one made this telenovela special and unforgettable. One of the characters who best represents society is Willy’s little sister, the cute little Barbarita, with that silly face; she’s a real handful, as we say in Venezuela. If they don’t catch her in time, she’ll devour the big bad wolf Fernando. This girl is something else; she got everything she wanted, but in the end it wasn’t worth it, because she lost it all.

The best couple—after Isabel and Fernando, of course—is Poncho and Dorys; they show that love is unconditional, through thick and thin. It’s capable of anything—of bringing out the hero within us to protect, help, and save the one we love. Not to be outdone are Commander Idrogo and “Beba.” They prove that age is no barrier to loving and being loved. This is a cliché that’s long since fallen out of use.

The most beautiful couple: Adelita and Mocho. Two human beings who found each other and discovered they weren’t insignificant—pure and innocent souls, like so many still in the world today. I loved everything about “Amorcito corazón,” and the best part was the ending because they invited me to the party. Believe it or not, I danced—I took part in the “crazy hour.” That’s how soap operas should be—they should show each character’s happy ending, because after enduring all their dramas and tears, we also deserve to enjoy the good times.

Oh oh oh, let's dance!

I wanted to show you the final dance from the wedding, so you could see Paraulata dancing with Willy, but I can't, so here's the intro with the theme song and my love, Chayanne.

The Downside

In this soap opera, the only character whose ending I didn’t like was Mauricio’s, since he’s an arrogant, psychopathic young man; his evil nature had to be exposed, and he had to be imprisoned for the things he did and ordered others to do—such as having Juancho, Marisol’s boyfriend, beaten up, buying stolen goods, and selling strange candies. For me, that was reason enough.

The other character, the evil little nun, is no role model for her order. Her arrogance and scheming should have landed her in a punishment cell.

Oh oh oh a bailar

Recognizing that the mind doesn’t play fair and is always trying to play tricks on us is the first step toward creating the life we want. That’s what the experts say—I’m not the one saying it. You’re going to get carried away by an ice cream truck: This expression is a little hard to understand. It’s used when someone is so crafty (so shrewd) that they want to cut in line or flout the rules—in other words, outsmart everyone else. That’s why they go so far that they don’t let themselves be carried away by just any truck, but by an ice cream truck, so they’ll come out ahead in the end.

It turned out just like the guayabera: Guayaberas are men's shirts that are very popular among Latinos. The meaning behind this has to do with the fact that a guayabera is always worn over other clothes. Just imagine how you'll feel if, for example, you aren't invited to the next party.

Malucia: I’d like to clarify that this is a word used in the eastern part of my country, Venezuela. It is also known as “malicia” according to the RAE and has several meanings depending on the context:
1.f. A hidden intention—usually malicious or mischievous—with which something is said or done. Syn.: mischief, dissimulation.
2.f. Wickedness (‖ the quality of being evil). Syn.: wickedness, malignity, perversity.
Ant.: goodness.

Hola manita bella @mafalda2018, me encanto.
