About the Quote

Everything we see around us which was made my people was first imagined by someone. Whether its a pencil or the International Space Station, someone (or some group of people) had to visualize it first. Even for the pencil, someone had to imagine machines used in the various phases of producing the pencil.

Imagination is also vital for deeds:

• Someone had to imagine circumnavigating Earth; perhaps many people had tdone this, but it took one person to put together the plan for doing exactly that.

• For thousands of years, people thought no one could run the mile in less than four minutes and live to tell the tale. Eventually, someone ran the mile in 3m59s or less, and then it became no big deal.

• Although no longer unknown, scoring a perfect 10.000 in gymnastics is still a rare achievement. Nadia Comăneci was the first to achieve this score when she did it at the 1976 Montréal Summer Games. 6 weeks before the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Games, Mary Lou Retton was recovering from arthroscopic surgery on one of her knees. During her recovery she would imagine herself doing her routins perfectly to the point where she could describe the environment around her. When only a score of 10.000 would guarantee her an Olympic Gold Medal, she scored that 10.000.

George Walton Lucas, Jr. was born in Modesto, California, US on 1944-May-14.

George Lucas is a firlm director, movie producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for revolutionizing the science fiction genre of movies, starting with Star Wars: A New Hope (1977). He is also known for his collaborations with fellow director Steven Spielberg on the Indiana Jones movies. Between the Star Wars and Indiana Jones movie franchises, he is partly responsible for some of the highest-ever box office grossing movies of all time. He is also the founder of Lucasfilm and the divisions which advanced motion picture making technology (among them, Industrial Light & Magic for special effects and THX for sound).

As a child, George Lucas was an reader of adventure books such as Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Lucas was also an avid collector of comic books. As a student, he had a major interest in history.

In high school he had two competing interests: making films and racing cars. After a near-fatal crash in one of his races, Lucas gave up racing cars to focus exclusively on making films.

Cinematographer Haskell Wexler encouraged Lucas' interest in making films. In 1966 Lucas graduated from the University of Southern California in. USC classmate and future director John Milius introduced Lucas to the work of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, and Kurosawa's influence would guide Lucas' work for decades. One Kurosawa film would have such a major impact on him that it can be felt to this day: the 1958 movie The Hidden Fortress ({Kakushi-toride no san-akunin}) was his inspiration for Star Wars.
