Hello dear friends, today I come to talk to you about a movie that I recently watched on Netflix and that is partially produced by Ghibli Studios, although in collaboration with NHK Enterprises, therefore it is very different from what everyone expects from a movie that usually has the Ghibli seal, but still it is not the first time, since there are movies like My Neighbors the Yamada that also handles an atypical style, but before giving you my most sincere opinion about it let's start with a brief summary so you have a greater context.
Hola queridos amigos, hoy vengo a hablarles de una película que vi recientemente en Netflix y que está producida parcialmente por Estudios Ghibli, aunque en colaboración de NHK Enterprises, por lo tanto es muy diferente a lo que todos esperan de una película que habitualmente tiene el sello Ghibli, pero aún así no es la primera vez, ya que hay películas como Mis Vecinos los Yamada que también maneja un estilo atípico, pero antes de darles mi más sincera opinión al respecto comencemos con un breve resumen para que ustedes tengan un mayor contexto.
Overview/Resumen
A baby girl is left in an orphanage by a woman who seems to be her mother, the girl grows up there and loves that place, so much that she does not want to be adopted, however a woman named Bella Yaga and a man named Mandrake decide to adopt her against her will, at first the girl expects Bella Yaga to teach her some magic but when she realizes that she only wants her to help her in domestic work she is filled with disappointment, However, her curiosity leads her to discover her true magical powers and what she is capable of doing, so after getting the perfect recipe in the spell book, with the help of Bella Yaga's talking cat she will finally get even, but at the same time she will reaffirm her power of persuasion and manipulation.
Una bebé es dejada en un orfanato por una mujer que parece ser su madre, la niña crece allí y le encanta ese lugar, tanto que no desea ser adoptada, sin embargo una mujer llamada Bella Yaga y un hombre llamado Mandrágora deciden adoptarla en contra de su voluntad, al inicio la niña espera que Bella Yaga le enseñe algo de magia pero al darse cuenta que solo desea que la ayude en labores domesticas se llena de decepción, no obstante su curiosidad la lleva a descubrir sus verdaderos poderes mágicos y de lo que es capaz de hacer, así que luego de conseguir la receta perfecta en el libro de hechizos, con al ayuda del gato parlante de Bella Yaga finalmente logrará desquitarse, pero a su vez reafirmará su poder de persuasión y manipulación.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
First of all you need to know that this movie is based on the novel of the same name by the british Diana Wynne Jones, although I'm not sure it's a good adaptation (and I haven't read the book yet) I say that because for an adaptation to be successful it should be understood by itself and that's something that failed in this movie, I mean I loved the animation, which was a novelty for Ghibli Studios, it is the first film made entirely by computer of this studio, the photography was very, very good, the soundtrack is unbeatable, seriously, I loved it 😍, but as for the script and the development of the plot (in my opinion) this film left much to be desired 😕 since it is almost impossible not to be confused with what is happening on screen, sometimes they omit information and it seems that the film is made for you to see it after having read the literary version.
En primer lugar es necesario que sepan que esta película está basada en la novela del mismo nombre de la británica Diana Wynne Jones, aunque no estoy segura de que sea una buena adaptación (y eso que aún no he leído el libro) lo digo porque para que una adaptación pueda ser exitosa debería darse a entender por sí misma y eso es algo que falló en esta película, es decir me encantó la animación, la cuál era toda una novedad para los Estudios Ghibli, es la primera película hecha completamente por computadora de este estudio, la fotografía estuvo muy pero muy bien, el soundtrack es inmejorable, en serio, lo amé 😍, pero en cuanto al guion y el desarrollo de la historia (en mi opinión) esta película dejó mucho que desear 😕 ya que resulta casi imposible no confundirse con lo que está sucediendo en pantalla, a veces omiten información y tal pareciera que la película está hecha para que la veas luego de haber leído la versión literaria.
For example, we don't know anything about those supposed witches that the woman with red and curly hair that we suppose is Earwig's mother was running away from, on the other hand we don't know anything beyond the flashback that shows that this woman was part of a successful rock band together with Mr. Mandrake and Bella Yaga, and that the band later broke up, we don't know where this woman is, we can only suppose that Earwig is her and Mandrake's daughter but nothing else, the film lacks character evolution, everything seems randomly placed and the ending is absurdly rushed, which leaves you with many more questions than answers, it is as if instead of a complete film you were watching only the trailer or a prequel, a kind of prologue because not even a second part of this film could fix this tremendous lack of information of the first one.
Por ejemplo, no sabemos nada acerca de esas supuestas brujas de las que huía la mujer de cabello rojo y rizado que suponemos es la madre de Earwig, por otra parte no sabemos nada más allá del flashback que demuestra que esa mujer formaba parte de una exitosa banda de rock junto con el Señor Mandrágora y Bella Yaga, y que la banda posteriormente se separó, no sabemos donde está esa mujer, solo nos queda suponer que Earwig es hija de ella y de Mandrágora pero nada más, la película carece de evolución de personajes, todo parece puesto al azar y el final es absurdamente apresurado, lo cuál te deja con muchas más preguntas que respuestas, es como si en lugar de una película completa estuvieses viendo solo el trailer o una antesala, una especie de prólogo porque ni siquiera una segunda parte de este film podría arreglar esta tremenda falta de información del primero.
In conclusion watching this movie for me was frustrating, it left me with the terrible feeling that I wasted my time, it only left me wanting to read the novel, which is normal after watching any film adaptation, but in any case what you are looking for is to complement information, however in this case it makes you want to read the novel to get absolutely ALL the answers that this adaptation denied you, I consider it as an unfinished work of the most absurd, without a solid plot structure. This could be explained by the fact that it was directed by Gorō Miyazaki (son of the great Hayao Miyazaki responsible for hits like The Walking Castle, which is also an adaptation of a novel) but the thing is that Gorō Miyazaki doesn't seem to be up to his father's standards, and has previously made hasty decisions like in Tales from Earthsea, in fact here I will leave you my review of that film so you can see what I mean.
En conclusión ver esta película para mi fue frustrante, me dejó con la terrible sensación de que perdí el tiempo, solo me dejó ganas de leer la novela, lo cual es normal después de ver cualquier adaptación cinematográfica, pero en cualquier caso lo que buscas es complementar información, sin embargo en este caso te dan ganas de leer la novela para obtener absolutamente TODAS las respuestas que esta adaptación te negó, la considero como una obra inconclusa de lo más absurda, sin una estructura argumental sólida. Esto podría hallar explicación en el hecho de que fue dirigida por Gorō Miyazaki (hijo del gran Hayao Miyazaki responsable de éxitos como El Castillo ambulante, que también es una adaptación de una novela) pero el caso es que Gorō Miyazaki no parece estar a la altura de su padre, y anteriormente ha tomado decisiones apresuradas como en Cuentos de Terramar, de hecho por aquí les dejaré mi review de esa película para que se den cuenta de lo que les digo.
I honestly do not recommend this movie at all, although of course, you would have to see it to have your own conclusions, but if you decide not to do so I tell you that you are missing absolutely nothing. Thank you all so much for reading my review, see you all another time 😉😊.

Well, actually, if you read the post more carefully, you'll understand that I don't recommend this movie at all, haha, it's seriously awful.
