Christmas Contest: "Home Alone" (ESP/ENG)

Another film that can't be missed at this time of year is "Home Alone" as it's a true classic, I remember watching it all the time in my childhood although Macaulay Culkin actually became my crush in "Richie Rich". Home Alone is completely full of absurd humour but that's precisely why it's so funny 🤣 although deep down it has a lot of thought-provoking messages.
Otra de las películas que no puede faltar en estas fechas es "Home Alone" ya que es un verdadero clásico, recuerdo que yo la veía siempre en mi infancia aunque en realidad Macaulay Culkin se convirtió en mi crush en "Richie Rich". Home Alone está completamente llena de humor absurdo pero precisamente por eso es tan graciosa 🤣 aunque en el fondo tiene muchos mensajes que invitan a la reflexión.
Overview/Resumen
The big McCallister family prepares to go on a trip to France, but Kevin, the youngest child, feels displaced by all the members of his family, he feels like an odd man out. On the eve of the trip the boy argues with his family and expresses his wish not to see them again, a wish that came true the next day, as during the night there was a storm that left the neighbourhood without electricity, so the alarm didn't go off, and when the family realised it was already late, they left the house in a hurry to go to the airport, however, only when they were on the plane, the mother realised that they had left something very important behind, Kevin, who woke up bewildered by so much silence and when he started to walk around the house he discovered that his family had left him all alone in the house. Worst of all, a couple of burglars surround the house and when they realise that only an eight-year-old boy is inside, they try to break in, but he fights back and defends his house with ingenious tricks that make the audience die laughing and feel admiration at the same time.
La numerosa familia McCallister se prepara para ir de viaje a Francia, pero Kevin, el más pequeño, se siente desplazado por todos los miembros de su familia, él se siente como un 0 a la izquierda. En la víspera del viaje el niño discute con su familia y expresa su deseo de no volver a verlos, un deseo que se volvió realidad al día siguiente, ya que durante la noche hubo una tormenta que dejó sin electricidad al vecindario, por lo tanto la alarma no sonó, y cuando la familia se dio cuenta de que ya era tarde, salieron con mucha prisa de la casa rumbo al aeropuerto, sin embargo, solo cuando ya estaban en el avión, la madre se dio cuenta de que dejaron en caso algo de suma importancia, a Kevin, él por su parte se despierta desconcertado por tanto silencio y cuando comienza a recorrer la casa descubre que su familia se fue y lo dejó completamente solo en la casa. Lo peor de todo es que un par de ladrones rodea la casa y al darse cuenta de que adentro solo está un niño de ocho años intentan entrar, peor él se defiende y defiende su casa valiéndose de ingeniosas artimañas que hacen que la audiencia muera de risa y sienta admiración al mismo tiempo.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
To begin with it is important to take something into account, and that is that we should not take seriously the main plot of the film, and by this I mean that it is somewhat absurd but the film is made to laugh and nothing more, besides it was made in the 90's where the most exploited plot for comedy films was precisely "the problem kids" and it worked quite well.
Para iniciar es importante tomar en cuenta algo, y es que no debemos tomar enserio el argumento principal de la película, y con esto quiero decir que es algo absurdo pero la película está hecha para reír y nada más, además fue hecha en los 90 donde el argumento para películas de comedia más explotado eran precisamente "los chicos problema" y funcionaba bastante bien.
On the other hand, there is one thing that is absolutely true, and that is that most burglars prey on homes during the off-season, so it was to be expected that they would try to break into the McCallister home, and it was equally understandable that Kevin would try to defend himself, albeit in very childish ways.
Por otra parte hay algo que sí es completamente cierto, y es que la mayoría de los ladrones acechan los hogares durante las épocas de asueto, por lo tanto era de esperarse que intentaran entrar en casa de los McCallister, y de la misma forma era entendible que Kevin intentara defenderse aunque de formas muy infantiles .
One of the things I liked the most was the tremendous evolution that exists in Kevin's character and also in the rest of his family, but I prefer to focus my attention on him since he is the main character, he felt alone and ignored and therefore reacted in a hostile way with his family, at the same time he was full of fears and worries that he thought he could not overcome, but when he knew that nobody else could defend him from an imminent and completely real danger, he started to make decisions and to work in an organised way on his personal safety. On the other hand, he began to value his family more and to discover that they are his true refuge, that Christmas was meaningless without all of them.
Una de las cosas que más me gustó fue la tremenda evolución que existe en el personaje de Kevin y también en el resto de su familia, pero prefiero centrar mi atención en él ya que es el personaje principal, él se sentía solo e ignorado y por lo tanto reaccionaba de forma hostil con su familia, al mismo tiempo estaba lleno de miedos e inquietudes que creía que no podía superar, pero cuando supo que nadie más podía defenderlo de un peligro inminente y completamente real, comenzó a tomar decisiones y a trabajar de forma organizada en su seguridad personal. Por otra parte comenzó a valorar más a su familia y a descubrir que ellos son el verdadero refugio, que la navidad no tenía sentido sin todos ellos.
And all this happens thanks to another misunderstood character, the neighbour, whom everyone fears because they think he is a murderer, but in reality he is a lonely man who hasn't seen his family for a long time, when Kevin gives him a chance to express himself, both discover that they are actually very similar in personality and of course each one gains the trust of the other, they are the key to understand that without the family they are nothing, that they feel lonely, empty and that it is a feeling too unpleasant to bear.
Y todo esto ocurre gracias a otro personaje incomprendido, el vecino, a quien todos le temen porque creen que es un asesino, pero en realidad es un hombre solitario que no ve a su familia desde hace tiempo, cuando Kevin le da una oportunidad de expresarse, ambos descubren que en realidad son muy parecidos en personalidad y desde luego cada uno gana la confianza del otro, son la clave para comprender que sin la familia ellos no son nada, que se sienten solos, vacíos y que es una sensación demasiado desagradable para soportarla.
On the other hand we have the funny scenes of the numerous attempts of the thieves to enter the house, it is true that they are very violent and even absurd scenes but it was the most used style of humour at that time and it was also effective, almost always the thieves of this type of films conserved the same pattern of behaviour, one was dumb but at least more cunning, that's why he always served as leader, because apparently he was the brains behind the plan, as well as not very patient and tolerant, while the other was even dumber because he lacked cunning and always let himself be carried away by the plans of his partner, but the worst mistake was to underestimate the cunning of a child.
Por otra parte tenemos las escenas graciosas de los numerosos intentos de los ladrones de entrar en la casa, es cierto que son escenas muy violentas y hasta absurdas pero era el estilo de humor más usado en esa época y además era efectivo, casi siempre los ladrones de este tipo de películas conservaban un mismo patrón de conducta, uno era tonto pero al menos más astuto, por eso siempre servía como líder, porque aparentemente era el cerebro detrás del plan, además de poco paciente y tolerante, mientras que el otro era más tonto aún porque carecía de astucia y siempre se dejaba llevar por los planes de su compañero, pero el peor error era subestimar la astucia de un niño.
In this scene (one of my favourites) Kevin uses every resource he has at hand to try to keep the burglars out, but what makes me laugh is that, knowing what was going to happen, he enjoys the terror on the burglars' faces as he tries to get their attention by saying "Hey guys! "while holding a huge power scissors under the rope they are hanging from, but best of all, at the end, when they achieve their goal and Kevin feels vulnerable and lost, the misunderstood neighbour proves to these miscreants that the boy really isn't alone.
En esta escena (una de mis favoritas) Kevin usa todos los recursos que tiene a la mano para tratar de evitar la entrada a los ladrones, pero lo que me da risa es que, sabiendo lo que iba a suceder, disfruta con el terror en la cara de los ladrones cuando intenta llamar su atención diciendo "¡Hola chicos!" mientras sostiene una enorme tijera de poder debajo de la cuerda de la que ellos están colgando, pero lo mejor de todo es que al final, cuando ellos logran el objetivo y Kevin se siente vulnerable y perdido, el vecino incomprendido le demuestra a estos malechores que realmente el niño no está solo.
But what makes it a true Christmas film is not just the fact that it is set at Christmas, but that it alludes to all the feelings that come to the surface during this time, the desire to be with your family, to feel loved and surrounded by them, it is not about receiving Christmas presents, nor the decorations that you can get to flaunt, but to feel the house full of people, to hear their laughter and their hugs, their voices saying "Merry Christmas" with emphasis and joy, that is why this is the quintessential Christmas film.
Pero lo que la hace una verdadera película navideña no es el simple hecho de que está ambientada en navidad, sino que alude a todos los sentimientos que afloran durante esta época, el deseo de estar con tu familia, de sentirte amado y rodeado por ellos, no se trata de recibir regalos de navidad, ni de los adornos que puedes llegar a ostentar, sino de sentir la casa llena de gente, escuchar sus risas y sus abrazos, sus voces diciendo "Feliz Navidad" con énfasis y alegría, por eso esta es la película de navidad por excelencia.

Uno de los mejores clásicos navideños. Siempre la veía cuando era chico y siempre me reía, a pesar de haberla visto un montón de veces. Que bueno que Macaulay Culkin le hizo homenaje a esta película recientemente después de tanto tiempo.
Sí, esos ladrones son bastante graciosos ideando más de un plan para intentar entrar en la casa, pero Kevin era mucho más astuto que ellos 🤣. Sí, vi que él hizo una publicidad con Google muy buena, me llenó de nostalgia, me encantó.
A true Christmas classic. I saw this film a couple of times when I was very little but the best memory I have is seeing it when I my siblings and I spent Christmas with my grandparents. To be honest, I can't remember very much about the film because I was very little the last time I saw it but I have fond memories of how things used to be back then. I will definitely see this film again probably this Christmas.

Yes, watching this film for me was like unlocking memories, I also saw it when I was little, in fact when it was released I was 5 years old, I really love it, it's funny and at the same time thoughtful.
Hola amiga, esta película es muy buena y es un gran clásico de estas épocas de navidad, la cual permite pasar un gran momento de mucha risa y diversión, además la presencia de ese gran actor es muy bueno y en cada una de sus películas podemos ver cosas nuevas e incluso cada una de las trampas que salen. Excelente esta película y estaré pendiente cuando la pasen por la tv.
Sí, esta película es más que un clásico, es El Clásico, la película navideña por excelencia, se puede ver con toda la familia y reflexionar acerca del amor y la convivencia pero al mismo tiempo te mueres de risa con todos los intentos fallidos de los ladrones. 🤣
Sin duda una excelente película de navidad, fácil puede entrar en mi top 5, y es además de ser súper divertida, tiene un gran mensaje, me encanta!
