Leprechaun 2 (Review)
Hello, my dear cinephile friends, the film I bring you today, "Leprechaun 2" I don't think it can be considered a classic, but it was very well known in its time, 1994, even the times I saw it I used to get really scared, however, now that I have seen it again as an adult, with a more mature approach, I have been able to notice certain details that I obviously didn't notice before, since I was simply focused on the fear that the evil goblin generated in me and his insistence on murdering people. Hola, mis queridos amigos cinéfilos, el film que les traigo hoy, "Leprechaun 2" no creo que pueda ser considerado un clásico, pero sí que fue muy conocido en su época, 1994, incluso las veces que lo vi en ese tiempo yo solía asustarme mucho, sin embargo, ahora que lo he vuelto a ver siendo adulta, con un enfoque más maduro, me he podido dar cuenta de ciertos detalles que obviamente antes no noté, ya que simplemente me enfocaba en el miedo que me generaba el malvado duende y su insistencia en asesinar a la gente. Acompáñame en esta review y descubre si estás o no de acuerdo conmigo.

Historia/Story
When the terrifying Leprechaun turned a thousand years old he had the opportunity to choose a wife, so he set his eyes on a beautiful young girl from the village who was also the daughter of the leprechaun's slave (he was enslaved as punishment for trying to steal the leprechaun's gold). To make her his wife, the leprechaun must only cause her to sneeze three times without someone saying "God bless you" in response, but the girl's father saves her at the last minute. The angry leprechaun warns O'Day (the girl's father) that although he could not keep the girl, he will wait until the next thousand years to take one of his descendants as his wife, therefore, after that time he travels to the United States, specifically to Los Angeles to look for Bridget, a 16 year old girl, who is the last descendant of O'Day, with the intention of marrying her.
Cuando el terrorífico Leprechaun cumplió mil años tuvo la oportunidad de elegir a una esposa, así que puso sus ojos en una hermosísima joven del pueblo quien era además la hija del esclavo del duende (fue esclavizado como castigo por intentar robar el oro del leprechaun) Para hacerla su esposa, el duende solo debe provocar que estornude tres veces sin que alguien le diga "salud" como respuesta, sin embargo el padre de la joven la salva a última hora. El duende enojado le advierte a O'Day (el padre de la chica) que aunque no pudo quedarse con la chica esperará hasta cumplir los próximos mil años siguientes para tomar como esposa a una de sus descendientes, por lo tanto, luego de de ese tiempo viaja a Estados Unidos, específicamente a Los Ángeles para buscar a Bridget, una joven de 16 años, quien es la última descendiente de O'Day, con la intención de desposarla.

Ok, the story itself is good, even original but if you allow me to tell you what was wrong with this movie, I will tell you many things but first of all I would like to highlight what I did like and what I consider strengths in this film.
Ok, la historia en sí es buena, incluso original pero si me permiten decirles que es lo que estuvo mal en esta película pues les diré que muchas cosas pero en primer lugar me gustaría resaltar lo que sí me gustó y que considero fortalezas en este film.
First of all, the performance of Warwick Davis in the main role, this man gave a neat interpretation, he is undoubtedly very versatile and skillful in the management of histrionic resources, that is why he makes each role his own and gives it a lot of personality, whether it is the nice Nelwyn in Willow, the terrifying Leprechaun in this film or the wise professor Flittwick in Harry Potter.
En primer lugar la actuación de Warwick Davis en el papel principal, este hombre hizo una pulcra interpretación, sin lugar a dudas es muy versátil y hábil en el manejo de recursos histriónicos, por eso cada rol lo hace suyo y le imprime mucha personalidad, bien sea el simpático Nelwyn en Willow el terrorífico Leprechaun de este film o el sabio profesor Flittwick en Harry Potter.
His way of speaking, that nasal tone of voice, his facial expressions and the evil look... Wow! This man is an acting genius, he really knows how to do his job.
Su manera de hablar, ese tono de voz nasal, sus expresiones faciales y la mirada maligna ¡Wow! Este hombre es un genio de la interpretación, sabe muy bien como hacer su trabajo.
The story was quite original and the special effects were also quite decent for its time, in fact one of the scenes that surprised me the most in those years was where the leprechaun made his pot of gold appear inside Uncle Morty's stomach.
La historia fue bastante original y los efectos especiales también estuvieron bastante decentes para su época, de hecho una de las escenas que me sorprendían más en aquellos años fue donde el duende hizo aparecer su olla de oro dentro del estómago del tío Morty.
Despite being a horror movie, it did have its tinges of humor at times, and the leprechaun jokes were very well done and placed within the plot, as in the scene where he comes out of the tree that is the entrance to his house, drinks some Wiskey and then spits it out before saying with a sneer "blending canadian? The Only Whiskey Is Irish Whiskey!"
A pesar de ser una película de horror, a veces tuvo sus tintes de humor, y los chistes del duende estuvieron muy bien hechos y ubicados dentro de la trama, como en la escena donde él sale del árbol que es la entrada de su casa, bebe un poco de Wiskey y luego lo escupe antes de decir con una expresión de desprecio ¿Wiskey canadiense?
But definitely despite having all these good elements, the film has many major weaknesses, such as the performances, with the exception of Warwick Davis left much to be desired, the actors did not print enough enthusiasm to their interpretations or went to the other extreme and were overacted, the jokes of Cody (Bridget's boyfriend) were really bad and out of place, plus the Leprechaun's house, which looks more like a cave, it seemed made with cheap props from an old theater in ruins, really, I did not like it at all.
Pero definitivamente a pesar de tener todos estos buenos elementos, el film tiene muchísimas debilidades importantes, como por ejemplo las actuaciones, a excepción de la de Warwick Davis dejaron muchísimo que desear, los actores no les imprimieron el suficiente entusiasmo a sus interpretaciones o se fueron al otro extremo y resultaron sobreactuados, los chistes de Cody (el novio de Bridget) fueron realmente malos y fuera de lugar, además la casa del duende, que más bien parece una cueva, parecía hecha con utilería barata de un viejo teatro en ruinas, de verdad, no me gustó para nada.
But I think without a doubt, the worst scene was when Cody fought the skeleton, it not only looked terribly fake, but absurd, not only because of the unrealism of the skeleton itself, but Cody's movements looked monotonous and lazy.
Pero creo que sin lugar a dudas, la peor de las escenas fue cuando Cody luchó contra el esqueleto, no solamente se vio terriblemente falsa, sino absurda, no solo debido al poco realismo del propio esqueleto, sino que los movimientos de Cody parecían monótonos y flojos.
However, even with all these points that detracted from its validity, not only for me but also for the critics' opinion, I can't deny that it is a very entertaining film, both for the story and for Davis' performance. One of the things I liked most about this character was the fact that he spoke using rhymes most of the time.
Sin embargo, aun y con todos estos puntos que le restaron validez, no solo para mí sino para la opinión de los críticos, no puedo negar que es un film bastante entretenido, tanto por la historia como por la actuación de Davis. Una de las cosas que más me gustaron de este personajes fue el hecho de que hablaba usando rimas la mayor parte del tiempo.
In my opinion it's a movie that serves to pass the time and to entertain you, it doesn't take itself seriously but it's certainly much better than other low budget movies I've seen.
En mi opinión es una película que sirve para pasar el rato y para entretenerte, no se toma enserio a sí misma pero sin lugar a dudas es mucho mejor que otras películas de bajo presupuesto que he visto.

Recuerdo haber visto la primera parte de esta película, era todavía un niño; recuerdo muchas escenas que me parecieron, pero viendolas otra vez ya de adulto, resultaron ser de humor negro.
Me pasó lo mismo que a ti cuando la volviste a ver, nos dimos cuenta que no era la gran cosa. Quizás para la mente de un niño es un filme muy impactante, similar a El Exorcista, pero ya como adulto lo ves como una película de Adam Sandler.
Así es, recuerdo perfectamente el miedo que me generaba de niña 😄 y ahora no puedo evitar reirme, la disfruté pero desde otro punto de vista.
I saw this movie a long time ago, it didn't scare me, it made me laugh a lot. That's why I like horror movies, there are some that give me pleasure and laughter. The Goblin is horrible, that's what attracts me, the ugliness. I don't understand why evil is always represented by ugliness, but that's another subject.
You're right, certainly this movie gives a lot of laughs because it is full of black humor, I think that in terms of acting, Warwick Davis is the one who comes out on top, although of course the characterization department did a great job.

Recuerdo la sensación de disgusto y de temor cuando ví por primera vez está película y todas las secuelas, que por cierto, por alguna razón las pasaban en una canal nacional de mi país en un horario para todo público. Luego si lo cambiaron a horario adulto. Y es cierto, la forma en que vemos una película depende de muchos factores y la edad aquí es una importante. Es como Chucky, daba miedo si eras niño pero ya de adulto te preguntas ¿Por qué le tenía tanto miedo sin en realidad era ridículo? Jajaja
Con respecto a los elementos y las actuaciones, creo que también depende del guión. Si el guión es malo, los actores no pueden hacer mucho por salvar una película, así se presente uno muy bueno como Al Pacino. Un ejemplo de ello lo vemos en la película 88 minutos dónde Al Pacino tiene el protagonismo y la película es terrible, da grima. Entonces pueda que eso haya afectado la calidad. Fue un humor negro pero sin mucho ingenio.

Muchas gracias por tu comentario, hermosa, es cierto esta clase de películas asustaban en su época porque digamos que los espectadores eran un poco más ingenuos que ahora (el cine de terror ha evolucionado muchísimo ahora) y desde luego que la edad influye mucho, 😆 me hubieses visto de niña aterrorizada por causa de Freddy.
Tienes razón en cuanto a lo del guión, aunque si una película es mala y los actores hacen bien su trabajo, al menos pueden salvar un poco la parte, en este caso su actuación fue increíblemente floja, parece que no se tomaron en serio nada, mientras que Davis hizo suyo el personaje en todos los sentidos.
