Finally I was able to see this film, my friends and I was really pleasantly shocked, despite the ending, which I did not like, I can say that it completely fulfilled my expectations, even though lately it is very difficult to be impressed with a horror film, Join me in this post to analyze together, Smile, the film that became so popular last year and that even disturbed the viewer just by looking at the poster.
Finalmente pude ver este film, amigos míos y de verdad que quedé gratamente impactada, a pesar del final, el cual no me gustó, puedo decir que llenó completamente mis expectativas, a pesar de que últimamente es muy difícil impresionarse con una película de terror, Acompáñenme en este post para que analicemos juntos, Smile, la película que se hizo tan popular el año pasado y que incluso llega a perturbar al espectador con tan solo mirar el poster.
Overview/Resumen
Dr. Rose Cotter receives in her office Laura Weaver, a young woman who came to her very disturbed after days before she witnessed the suicide of one of her teachers, the young woman claimed that she was not seeing hallucinations, but a completely real entity although invisible to others, which often takes the form of other people and always appears before her with a very disturbing smile that does not bode well, at first it was not so frequent but gradually was invading the life of the young woman to convince her that she would die in a short time. Rose, as a psychiatrist, tries to calm her down and make her understand that she is safe, but the young woman ends up committing suicide in front of her, from that moment on Rose experiences a kind of curse that is transferred from one person to another through the trauma of contemplating suicide, terrifying visions where reality mixes with fantasy until she becomes confused, without her own experience as a psychiatrist being able to help her, until finally she has no choice but to accept her reality and try to do something about it by other less conventional and more radical means.
La Doctora Rose Cotter recibe en su consultorio a Laura Weaver, una joven que llegó muy perturbada ante ella luego de que días atrás ella presenciara el suicidio de uno de sus profesores, la joven afirmaba que no estaba viendo alucinaciones, sino una entidad completamente real aunque invisible para los demás, la cual a menudo toma la forma de otras personas y siempre se presenta ante ella con una sonrisa muy perturbadora que no augura nada bueno, al inicio no era tan frecuente pero poco a poco fue invadiendo la vida de la joven hasta convencerla de que moriría en poco tiempo. Rose, como psiquiatra intenta calmarla, y hacerle entender que está a salvo, pero la joven termina suicidándose frente a ella, a partir de ese momento Rose experimenta una especia de maldición que se traspasa de unas personas a otras mediante el trauma de contemplar un suicidio, visiones terroríficas donde la realidad se mezcla con la fantasía hasta llegar a dejarla confundida, sin que su propia experiencia como psiquiatra pueda ayudarla, hasta que finalmente no le queda más remedio que aceptar su realidad y tratar de hacer algo al respecto valiéndose de otros medios menos convencionales y más radicales.

What I would like to analyze first of all is the fact itself of smiles, why do we find so disturbing the scenes where the characters smile? You see, the smile is a resource of the human being to communicate with others, it aims to convey security and confidence, people who smile very often are considered friendly and charismatic, but according to a study conducted at the University of San Francisco, California, United States, There are 19 types of smiles and not all of them convey positive feelings, a smile can also arise to express contempt or evil, it can come with the worst of intentions, and I think that is precisely where lies the success of this film, which show that disturbing part of what is supposed to be good and convey confidence.
Lo que me gustaría analizar ante todo es el hecho en sí de las sonrisas, ¿por qué nos resultan tan perturbadoras las escenas donde los personajes sonríen? Verán, la sonrisa es un recurso del ser humano para comunicarse con los demás, pretende transmitir seguridad y confianza, las personas que sonríen muy a menudo son consideradas amables y carismáticas, pero según un estudios realizado en la Universidad de San Francisco, en California, Estados Unidos, existen 19 tipos de sonrisas y no todas ellas transmiten sentimientos positivos, una sonrisa también puede surgir para expresar desprecio o maldad, puede venir con la peor de las intenciones, y creo que es justamente ahí donde radica el éxito de esta película, que muestran esa parte perturbadora de lo que se supone debería ser bueno y transmitir confianza.
Another element that really caught my attention in this film was the cinematography, it was wonderfully worked and made a good accompaniment to the story, the color palette remained dark in almost every shot but they became even more evident in the most disturbing scenes of the film, I was also very struck by the inverted shots that help you better understand the situation of the protagonist, it is the representation of what she is feeling at that moment, her life is upside down, messed up, something is happening with her that is unnatural.
Otro de los elementos que me llamó mucho la atención en este film fue la fotografía, estuvo maravillosamente trabajada e hizo un buen acompañamiento de la historia, la paleta de colores se mantuvo oscura en casi todos los planos pero se hicieron todavía más evidente en las escenas más perturbadoras de la película, también me llamó mucho la atención los planos invertidos que te ayudan a comprender mejor la situación de la protagonista, es la representación de lo que ella está sintiendo en ese momento, su vida está de cabeza, desordenada, algo está sucediendo con ella que es antinatural.
As for the performances, they were all great, but I think I have to highlight the talent of Caitlin Stasey as Laura Weaver (the girl Dr Rose Cotter has to treat) as it is really difficult to play this kind of disturbed character without overacting, she looked terrified and seriously disoriented, but I also loved Sosie Bacon's performance as Dr. Cotter, she knew how to handle the transformation of her character, going from being a balanced woman to having a total decline, falling into the lowest of the pit.
En cuanto a las actuaciones, todas estuvieron geniales, pero creo que debo resaltar el talento de Caitlin Stasey como Laura Weaver (la chica a la que debe tratar la Dra Rose Cotter) ya que es verdaderamente difícil interpretar este tipo de personaje perturbado sin caer en la sobreactuación, a ella se le veía aterrada y desorientada en serio, pero también amé la actuación de Sosie Bacon como la Dra Cotter, supo como manejar la transformación de su personaje, pasando de ser una mujer equilibrada a tener un declive total, cayendo en lo más bajo del hoyo.
The soundtrack by the Chilean-Canadian musician Cristobal Tapia de Veer, was wonderful and knew how to accompany all the scenes very well, I even noticed that on more than one occasion musical instruments were not used in the compositions, but random sounds that do help to increase the terror in each scene, and this is something that was pioneered by the great Akira Yamaoka, famous for composing the soundtrack of the Silent Hill video games.
El soundtrack a cargo del músico chileno canadiense Cristobal Tapia de Veer, estuvo maravilloso y supo acompañar muy bien todas las escenas, incluso percibí que en más de una ocasión no se usaron instrumentos musicales en las composiciones, sino sonidos al azar que sí que ayudan a incrementar el terror en cada escena, y esto es algo en el que fue pionero el gran Akira Yamaoka, famoso por componer el soundtrack de los videojuegos de Silent Hill.

Su final es tremendamente mediocre y repetitivo sin embargo todo el desarrollo de la cinta es muy bueno, si tan solo se hubiese mantenido así sería un 10 de 10

Sí, completamente de acuerdo, lo único que la arruinó fue el final porque es lo mismo que que hemos visto muchas veces en películas de horror, pero del resto la trama estuvo genial.

Todavía no la vi pero admito que se me hace bastante perturbadora. Creo que este tipo de género suele tener problemas con sus finales, algunos son tan absurdos que no lo podes creer con lo bien que venía el film jajaja
Sí, exactamente, es como si tuvieran buenos argumentos para desarrollar la trama pero a la hora de llegar al final se quedan sin ideas y entonces deciden dedicar toda la energía a dar un impacto visual y nada más. Muchas gracias por leer y comentar.
Al igual que tu, vengo con decepción tras decepción con éste género que es de mis preferidos. A ésta película le tenía cierta fe por la buena publicidad que tuvo, pero a decir verdad despues que la vi quedé con un sentimiento de haber visto mas de lo mismo; sin embargo, creo que es una película muy decente, lo que sucede es que hoy en día es muy difícil sorprenderse, quizá por eso cuesta sentirse satisfecho.

Muchas gracias por tu opinión, es cierto, hoy en día es dificilísimo sorprenderse pero creo que hicieron un gran trabajo con esta cinta, las actuaciones estuvieron buenas y supieron armar una buena composición entre la fotografía el soundtrack y el guion, lo que me molestó fue el final.
