Straw [Movie Review] ESP/ENG
Hello cinephile friends, today I come with the review of a movie that is attracting a lot of attention lately and in fact is in the top spots on Netflix, in fact that's the reason why I got curious and ended up watching it, finding a real gem certainly very worthy to review and analyze in depth, so join me in this post to give you context and my opinion 😉.
Hola amigos cinéfilos, hoy vengo con la review de una película que está llamando mucho la atención últimamente y que de hecho está en los primeros lugares de Netflix, de hecho esa es la razón por la cual me dio curiosidad y terminé viéndola, encontrando una verdadera joya ciertamente muy digna de reseñar y analizar a profundidad, así que acompáñenme en este post para darles contexto y mi opinión 😉.
Overview/Resumen
Janiyah Wiltkinson is a woman who has two jobs, a daughter with special conditions, many problems and responsibilities but no help, no husband or friends, not even someone who can help her see the light at the end of the tunnel. One day she takes her daughter to school amidst the screams of her landlady who threatens to throw her out on the street if she does not come up with the rent money, while at work she suddenly gets a call from her daughter's school to tell her that social services will take her away because she does not play a good role as a mother, the woman runs off to her job where her boss has already fired her for having been absent too long, The landlady threw all of Janiyah's belongings into the street and in the middle of all this chaos the woman collapses and loses control, discovering later that she is in an even bigger problem derived from this great collapse, but it is right here where we realize that sometimes to get out of a hole you have to hit rock bottom.
Janiyah Wiltkinson es una mujer que tiene dos trabajos, una hija con condiciones especiales, muchos problemas y responsabilidades pero ninguna ayuda, no tiene esposo o amigos, ni siquiera alguien que pueda ayudarle a vislumbrar la luz al final del túnel. Un día lleva a su hija a la escuela en medio de los gritos de su casera que amenaza con echarla a la calle si ella no llega con el dinero de la renta, estando ya en el trabajo de pronto la llaman del colegio de la niña para decirle que servicios sociales se la llevará porque ella no cumple un buen papel como madre, la mujer sale corriendo a su trabajo donde su jefe ya la ha despedido por haberse ausentado demasiado tiempo, por su parte la casera tiró todas las pertenencias de Janiyah a la calle y en medio de todo este caos la mujer colapsa y pierde el control, descubriendo luego que está metida en un problema aún mayor derivado de ese gran colapso, pero es justo aquí donde nos damos cuenta que a veces para salir de un hoyo al que tocar fondo.

My Opinion/Mi Opinión
This film shows us a terrible reality that unfortunately many people in the world have experienced for a long time, and note that I use the word "people" and not "women" because I believe that loneliness and abandonment have no gender, in fact we saw some of this in the movie "In Search of Happiness" with Will Smith, but it is true that it is more common to see women struggling alone than men. I consider this film worthy of analysis for several reasons: firstly because it is a criticism of the selfish system, where society expects a lot from you but does not give you any help, getting sick is a luxury because health is privatized, medical consultations and medicines are excessively expensive, as are the price of rents, but salaries are low, which forces people to have more than one job, which in turn takes away time for yourself, for your activities, takes away your quality of life and makes you question many things "Should I quit this job and get another one? "But who will take care of my daughter if I don't have anyone else? This inevitably leads me to another reason why I consider this film valuable, because I believe it is a desperate cry for help from men and women we may know or see every day with a smile on their lips and a broken soul inside.
Esta película nos muestra una terrible realidad que lamentablemente han experimentado muchas personas en el mundo desde hace mucho tiempo, y fíjense que yo uso la palabra "personas" y no "mujeres" porque creo que la soledad y el abandono no tienen género, de hecho vimos algo de esto en la película "En busca de la felicidad" con Will Smith, pero sí es cierto que es más frecuente ver mujeres luchando sola que hombres. Considero que esta película es digna de analizar por varias razones: en primer lugar porque es una crítica al sistema egoísta, donde la sociedad espera mucho de ti pero no te brinda ninguna ayuda, enfermarse es todo un lujo porque la salud está privatizada, las consultas médicas y las medicinas son excesivamente costosas, al igual que el precio de los alquileres, pero los sueldos son bajos, lo cual obliga a las personas a tener más de un empleo, que a su vez te resta tiempo para ti mismo, para tus actividades, te quita calidad de vida y te hace cuestionar muchas cosas "¿Debería dejar este trabajo y conseguir otro?" "¿Tendría que mudarme de país?" "¿Pero quien cuidará de mi hija si no tengo a nadie más?". Esto me lleva inevitablemente a otra de las razones por las cuales considero valiosa esta película, porque creo que es un grito desesperado de auxilio de hombres y mujeres que quizá conocemos o que vemos a diario con una sonrisa en los labios y el alma rota por dentro.
When Janiyah collapses she is unable to perceive what is going on around her, her mind completely dissociates, which is a defense mechanism to protect the individual from an extreme pain burden that she cannot bear, and we find all this out as the denouement of the film approaches with a plot twist that I couldn't talk about without ruining the wow factor for you, so I'll let you find out for yourself. But it is painful to see how a person can act when they feel completely alone and pressured by life and society in general. This leads me to highlight of course the wonderful performance of Taraji P. Henson because she knew how to give a realistic approach to her character, the movement of her hands that denoted stress and above all the expression of pain in her gaze, deep and empty, it was obvious that the woman was broken inside.
Cuando Janiyah colapsa es incapaz de percibir lo que provoca a su alrededor, su mente se disocia por completo, lo cual es un mecanismo de defensa para proteger al individuo de una carga de dolor extrema que no puede soportar, y todo esto lo vamos descubriendo a medida que se acerca el desenlace de la película con un giro de trama del que yo no podría hablar sin arruinarte el factor sorpresa, así que dejaré que lo descubras por ti mismo. Pero resulta doloroso ver como una persona puede actuar cuando se siente completamente sola y presionada por la vida y la sociedad en general. Esto me lleva a destacar desde luego la maravillosa actuación de Taraji P. Henson porque supo darle un enfoque realista a su personaje, el movimiento de sus manos que denotaba estrés y sobre todo la expresión de dolor en su mirada, profunda y vacía, era obvio que la mujer estaba rota por dentro.
I like that on this occasion Tyler Perry (the creator) has dared to make a drama, since previously he mostly did comedy, this allowed him not only to prove to himself that he is capable of doing anything successfully, but I consider it particularly as a great contribution to society because this film explores the limit of human resilience and the impact that the system can have on the lives of people who have to confront daily adverse and extremely difficult situations being alone. But what I like most about the film is that it also explores other completely opposite themes such as solidarity and empathy, when society finally gives itself a chance to listen and understand (it's a bit complex but you must see the film to understand it).
Me gusta que en esta ocasión Tyler Perry (el creador) se haya atrevido a hacer un drama, ya que anteriormente él hacía comedia en su mayoría, esto le permitió no solo probarse a si mismo que es capaz de hacer cualquier cosa con éxito, sino que lo considero particularmente como un gran aporte a la sociedad porque esta película explora el límite de la resistencia humana y el impacto que puede tener el sistema en las vidas de las personas que tienen que confrontar a diario situaciones adversas y sumamente difíciles estando solas. Pero lo que más me gusta de la película es que también explora otros temas completamente opuestos como la solidaridad y la empatía, cuando la sociedad finalmente se da la oportunidad de escuchar y entender (es algo un poco complejo pero debes ver la película para poder entenderlo)

A veces tocar fondo hacen que las personas vean otras oportunidades. La vida actual es difícil sobre todo para las personas que tienen un solo ingreso y tienen que hacer varias cosas para subsistir. Entonces entra la disyuntiva: ¿que tiempo se dedica a los hijos,? sobre todo en las etapas de niñez y adolescencia.
