The Exorcist's most chilling scenes (ESP/ENG)

Today I bring a different post, friends, due to the proximity of Halloween. This time I don't want to do a review or analysis, but I would like to highlight some scenes from one of my favourite films, which is The Exorcist, because I consider that it has aged quite well, it still continues to cause panic in most of the audience, so for that reason I want to talk about my four favourite scenes that I consider the most terrifying of this film.

En esta ocasión no quiero hacer una review o análisis, sino que me gustaría destacar algunas escenas de uno de mis films favoritos, el cual es El Exorcista, debido a que considero que ha envejecido bastante pero bastante bien, todavía sigue causando pánico en la mayoría de la audiencia, así que por esa razón quiero hablarles acerca de mis cuatro escenas favoritas y que además considero más terroríficas de esta película.

Regan's first exorcism/El primer exorcismo de Regan

This scene is chilling for several reasons, first of all because of Regan's frightening, yet exaggerated appearance, but besides that there is a combination of many elements that make this scene one of the best of the genre, first of all we have the rites and the reactions that are very authentic because it is what has been described in real exorcisms, the temperature of the room, which, by orders of the director of the film was at minus 20 degrees to generate a good atmosphere, in these cases the entities of the lower astral drastically lower the temperature of the places to feel more "comfortable" and it is an element very according to their personalities, and finally we have the performances, the three were great, each one very into his role, father Karras humble, learning from the master, father Lankester, very sure of himself and the power of God leads the rite, his movements and body language show the experience he has but also the patience and love for his profession, Regan for his part, or rather, the demon, is irreverent, offensive and threatening, it is terribly disturbing the moment when he sticks out his tongue compulsively 😲 😨 😱 😱

Esta escena es escalofriante por varias razones, en primer lugar por la espantosa, aunque exagerada apariencia de Regan, pero además de eso hay una combinación de muchos elementos que hacen de esta escena una de las mejores del genero, en primer lugar tenemos los ritos y las reacciones que son muy auténticas debido a que es lo que se ha descrito en exorcismos reales, la temperatura de la habitación, la cual, por ordenes del director de la película estaba a menos 20 grados para generar una buena ambientación, en estos casos las entidades del bajo astral bajan drásticamente la temperatura de los lugares para sentirse más "cómodos" y es un elemento muy acorde a sus personalidades, y por último tenemos las actuaciones, los tres estuvieron geniales, cada uno muy metido en su rol, el padre Karras humilde, aprendiendo del maestro, el padre Lankester, muy seguro de si mismo y del poder de Dios lidera el rito, sus movimientos y expresión corporal demuestran la experiencia que tiene pero también la paciencia y amor por su profesión, Regan por su parte, o mejor dicho, el demonio, es irreverente, ofensivo y amenazante, es terriblemente perturbador el momento en el que saca la lengua compulsivamente 😲 😨 😱

Regan's levitation/La levitación de Regan

One of the scenes that certainly impresses a lot and that, although it may seem a bit exaggerated is where Father Karras and Father Lankester are in full exorcism rite, while Regan (possessed by the demon) begins to rise in the air as a proof of his power, what scares me most of this scene are the whitish eyes of Regan, and we can see how she tries to frighten both priests by demonstrating her power through the strong shaking of the room, we certainly see a battle between good and evil, but there is a clear demonstration that good will prevail when we see Regan slowly descending with the background prayers of the two priests "The power of Christ compels you".

Una de las escenas que ciertamente impresiona mucho y que, si bien puede parecer un poco exagerada es donde el Padre Karras y el padre Lankester están en pleno rito de exorcismo, mientras Regan (poseída por el demonio) comienza a elevarse en el aire como una prueba de su poder, lo que más me asusta de eta escena son los ojos blanquecinos de Regan, además de que podemos ver como intenta amedrentar a ambos sacerdotes demostrando su poder mediante las fuertes sacudidas de la habitación, ciertamente vemos una batalla entre el bien y el mal, pero hay una clara demostración de que el bien va a prevalecer cuando vemos a Regan descender lentamente con las plegarias de fondo de los dos sacerdotes "El poder de cristo te obliga"

The scene on the stairs/La escena de las escaleras

I think it's too much to describe why I think this scene is terrifying, but I'll do it anyway, the character's movements are extremely erratic and grotesque, why does he do it? Simply to demonstrate its power, it wants to impress and terrify, because the more frightened and disturbed the humans around it are, the more the demon gets stronger, it's simple, if you fear it, it means you don't trust in the power of God and this in a way is a victory for him. But Regan not only comes down the stairs in such a frightening way, she chases a woman while sticking out her tongue. I think it's also worth mentioning that this scene was authentic, that is, it wasn't computer generated or anything like that, it was Linda Blair's stunt double who performed the stunt, and this scene was not part of the original version, it was in deleted scenes for a while and was added later for the remastered version, which was the one I saw back in 2001 or 2002, I can't remember.

Creo que está demás describir porqué creo que esta escena es aterradora, pero lo haré de todos modos, los movimientos del personaje son extremadamente erráticos y grotescos, ¿por qué lo hace? Simplemente para demostrar su poder, quiere impresionar y aterrar, porque mientras más asustados y perturbados estén los seres humanos a su alrededor, más se fortalecerá el demonio, es simple, si le temes, significa que no confías en el poder de Dios y esto de cierta forma es una victoria para él. Pero Regan no solo baja las escaleras de esa forma tan espantosa, sino que persigue a una mujer mientras saca la lengua. Creo que además es bueno mencionar que esta escena fue auténtica, es decir, no fue generada por computadora ni nada parecido, fue la doble de Linda Blair la que realizó la hazaña, además esta escena no formó parte de la versión original, sino que estuvo en escenas eliminadas por un tiempo y fue añadida luego para la versión remasterizada, que fue la que yo vi por allá en el 2001 o 2002, no recuerdo bien.

Regan smiling/Regan sonriendo

This scene is for me the most disturbing, Father Karras enters Regan's room and gets Father Lankester dead, while she contemplates him from her bed, at first she is expressionless, watching all the movements of Father Karras, as he tries to revive uselessly his companion, to top it all she is free, she is no longer tied to the bed, but then she begins to sketch a very disturbing mocking smile, God! That scene makes my hair stand on end 😨 😱 😱 but to top it all off Father Karras loses his patience and attacks her, causing the demon to possess him and ends up losing his life. It is very frightening to contemplate that smile because it is loaded with evil, it is as if in a way the demon felt sure of his victory, although in the end it was not so.

Esta escena es para mí la más perturbadora, el padre Karras entra a la habitación de Regan y consigue al padre Lankester muerto, mientras ella lo contempla desde su cama, al principio ella está inexpresiva, observando todos los movimientos del padre Karras, como él intenta revivir inútilmente a su compañero, para colmo ella está libre, ya no está atada a la cama, pero luego comienza a esbozar una sonrisa burlona muy perturbadora, ¡Dios! esa escena me pone los pelos de punta 😨 😱 pero para colmo el padre Karras pierde la paciencia y la ataca, provocando que el demonio lo posea a él y termine perdiendo la vida. Es muy aterrador contemplar esa sonrisa porque está cargada de maldad, es como si de cierta forma el demonio se sintiera seguro de su victoria, aunque al final no fue así.
