Sé que de pequeña llegué a ver estas películas con mi papá, aún tengo recuerdos de ciertas cosas. Pero supongo que en el momento era demasiado niña como para entender del todo lo que pasaba y después simplemente perdí el interés. Sin embargo, sabía que quería volver a verlas para entender porqué a mi papá y a tantos otros millones de personas los apasiona esta saga.
Recientemente por fin logré el cometido, y hoy les hablaré sobre La Guerra de las Galaxias: Episodio IV - Una nueva esperanza. Eso sí, como siempre, habrán spoilers
I know I saw these movies with my dad as a child; I still remember certain things. But I guess I was too young at the time to fully understand what was going on, and then I just lost interest. However, I knew I wanted to watch them again to understand why my dad and so many other millions of people are so passionate about this saga.
Recently, I finally got around to it, and today I'm going to talk to you about Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope. Of course, and as always, there will be spoilers.

Luke Skywalker es un granjero que lleva una vida bastante normal. Un día quizás por cosa del destino (o la Fuerza) termina conociendo a dos androides, C3PO y R2-D2 y estos a su vez lo llevarán a conocer al antiguo maestro Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi, quien le enseñará a usar la Fuerza, concepto que Luke no conocía pero que será el principio de comenzar su aventura como héroe, o puede que era lo que estaba destinado a ser desde un inicio.
Así Luke formará parte de la Alianza Rebelde, quienes luchan contra la dictadura del Imperio Galáctico. El primer objetivo de los rebeldes es la estación espacial La Estrella de la Muerte
Luke Skywalker is a farmer who leads a fairly normal life. One day, perhaps by fate (or the Force), he ends up meeting two droids, C3PO and R2-D2, who in turn lead him to meet the former Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, who teaches him how to use the Force, a concept Luke was unfamiliar with but which will be the beginning of his adventure as a hero, or perhaps it was what he was destined to be from the start.
Thus, Luke will become part of the Rebel Alliance, who fight against the dictatorship of the Galactic Empire. The rebels' first objective is the Death Star space station.
Algo importante para ver esta película es, por supuesto, entender el contexto. Es una película estrenada en 1977 por lo que hay que tener en cuenta que muchas cosas que quizás no se harían en una producción actual pues son recursos o aspectos comunes de lo más antiguo. En este caso, las situaciones o reacciones de los personajes suelen ser exageradas, o incluso encontré actuaciones que son considerablemente pobres, como la de Mark Hamill (Luke). Deja mucho que desear, pero no para el estándar de la época, por lo que en realidad está bien.
Tampoco el guion ayudaba mucho en algunas escenas. Por ejemplo, cuando mueren los tíos de Luke apenas vemos una reacción en éste. Pero cuando muere Obi-Wan, un hombre que apenas conoce, parece totalmente devastado. Aunque incluso así, hay una escena donde la Princesa Leia intenta consolarlo, pero en un instante pasan a otro plano. Hay muchos cambios así de abruptos, pero era algo común en ese entonces.
Something important to watch this film is, of course, understanding the context. It was released in 1977, so you have to keep in mind that many things that perhaps wouldn't be done in a modern production are common features or aspects of older productions. In this case, the characters' situations or reactions are often exaggerated, or I even encountered considerably poor performances, such as that of Mark Hamill (Luke). It leaves a lot to be desired, but not by the standards of the time, so it's actually okay.
The script didn't help much in some scenes either. For example, when Luke's uncles die, we barely get a reaction from him. But when Obi-Wan dies, a man he barely knows, he seems completely devastated. Even so, there is a scene where Princess Leia tries to comfort him, but they cut to another plane in an instant. There are many such abrupt changes, but it was common back then.
Y teniendo en cuenta la época, realmente destacó por los efectos especiales, que eran algo impensable de conseguir para el momento. Los sables de luz, las criaturas extrañas, tener a personas más efectos especiales en una misma escenas y que se viera natural. Todo fue verdaderamente innovador, y para complementar, la historia está muy bien escrita. Alguien me la comparó con las de Tolkien, diciendo que «es la comunidad del anillo en el espacio», y tiene toda la razón.
La forma en que todo está estructurado es muy similar. Nos presentan en un principio al protagonista que aún no sabe que le espera una aventura, pero personas a su alrededor saben que está destinado a ello. Él desconoce muchas cosas de sí mismo y el mundo, pero un mentor se las va explicando a medida que se enfrentan a situaciones extraordinarias. Nos presentan a todos los personajes relevantes sin profundizar mucho, solo con la información necesaria para que sepas cómo se relacionan entre sí y porqué están allí. La introducción perfecta a un nuevo mundo.
And considering the era, it really stood out for the special effects, which were unthinkable at the time. The lightsabers, the strange creatures, having people and special effects in the same scene and making it look natural. It was all truly innovative, and to top it all off, the story is very well written. Someone compared it to Tolkien's stories, saying that "it's The Fellowship of the Ring in space", and they're absolutely right.
The way everything is structured is very similar. We are initially introduced to the protagonist, who doesn't yet know that an adventure awaits him, but those around him know he's destined for it. He doesn't know many things about himself and the world, but a mentor explains them to him as they face extraordinary situations. We are introduced to all the relevant characters without going into too much detail, with just the necessary information so you know how they relate to each other and why they're there. The perfect introduction to a new world.
Lo que precisamente hace más digerible y rápida esta historia es que no se explayan mucho en explicaciones, te dan solo lo justo para que entiendas, por lo que no priorizan los diálogos sino la acción. Aunque aún no las veo, puede que en las otras películas se dedique más tiempo a explicar el contexto, sin embargo, no sería realmente necesario pues se puede construir una buena historia con poca información, agregando la acción constante para que sea entretenida.
Aquí no dejan de pasar cosas y con diálogos cortos te explican todo. Además, la dinámica entre personajes es divertida y entretenida, puesto que cada uno, incluso los secundarios, cuentan con su carisma, lo cual los hace memorables. Todos son necesarios para la historia, en mayor o menor medida, y lo que no es explícitamente explicado, con la escena misma se da a entender.
What makes this story quicker to digest is that they don't go into too much detail; they give you just enough to understand, so they don't prioritize dialogue but rather action. Although I haven't seen them yet, it's possible that the other films spend more time explaining the context. However, it wouldn't really be necessary, as a good story can be built with little information, adding constant action to make it entertaining.
Here things keep happening all the time, and they explain everything with short dialogues. Furthermore, the dynamic between characters is fun and entertaining, as each one, even the secondary ones, has their own charisma, which makes them memorable. They are all necessary to the story, to a greater or lesser extent, and what isn't explicitly explained is made clear in the scene itself.
Ya tengo mis posibles personajes favoritos, al menos con lo poco que sé de ellos hasta ahora. Pero como mencioné antes, familiares y amigos son muy fans de estas películas así que de antemano ya había visto cosas, y por ello algo de lo que estaba segura es de que iba a amar completamente la banda sonora, y así fue. Es simplemente perfecta. John Williams es un músico increíble. Su trabajo fue un complemento sublime para esta historia. No puedo añadir más al respecto, es simplemente perfecto.
I already have my potential favorite characters, at least based on what little I know about them so far. But as I mentioned before, family and friends are huge fans of these films, so I'd already seen things beforehand, so one thing I was sure of was that I was going to absolutely love the soundtrack, and I did. It's simply perfect. John Williams is an incredible musician. His work was a sublime complement to this story. I really can't say more about it; it's simply perfect.
Así que puedo concluir que me arrepiento de no haberles puesto atención mucho antes a estas películas. Al menos el episodio cuatro me pareció entretenido, divertido y un gran inicio para una historia épica. Por lo que si aún no la has visto, te lo recomiendo bastante. Y si todavía no tienes mucha idea de qué esperar, te dejo el tráiler subtitulado aquí abajo.
So I can conclude that I regret not paying attention to these films sooner. At least I found episode four entertaining, fun, and a great start to an epic story. So if you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it. And if you still don't have much of an idea of what to expect, I'll leave the trailer bellow (in english, subtitles are in spanish)

Bueno, nunca es tarde para ver estas joyas del cine. El IV, V y VI son los mejores porque centran gran parte de los sucesos con Luke y compañía. Se que sabes el orden pero después de estos tres vas y ves el I, II y el III y cierras con las más actuales. El universo de Star Wars es de los mejores que hay, los vas a disfrutar.
Es definitivamente de los mejores. Ya voy por el episodio II y hasta ahora todo en general me encanta. Ojalá les hubiera dado una oportunidad antes, pero igual me ando disfrutando todas las películas.
