En el día de hoy paso por acá para hablarles de una película que llamó mucho mi atención en estos días, y más adelante verán el porqué, se trata de la cinta "El portal del más allá" o como su nombre original traducido al inglés lo indica "Between Worlds", la cual fue estrenada en el año 2018 y dirigida por Maria Pulera.
Esta es una producción con toques de algo sobrenatural, drama familiar y algunos giros inesperados y tiene una duración de apenas 90 minutos. Esta cinta protagonizada por Cage junto a Franka Potente y Penelope Mitchell llega a las pantallas bajo ese título en español que nos hace pensar en algo místico y terrorífico, aunque el resultado final es mucho más modesto de lo que promete.
La historia en general gira en torno a Joe, el papel que desempeña Nicolas Cage, un camionero de larga distancia, que se encuentra profundamente traumatizado por la muerte accidental de su esposa y su hija pequeña años atrás. Joe vive de arriba para abajo en un estado permanente de duelo, alcohol y aislamiento emocional. Su vida cambia cuando, en un motel, conoce a Julie, papel que desempeña Franka Potente, una mujer que aparentemente posee la capacidad de comunicarse con los muertos o para ser más precisos de entrar en contacto con espíritus a través de un estado de coma inducido.

El resto del reparto se siente funcional, pero sin destacar.
Realmente la película tiene algunos tropiezos, pues su estilo visual es bastante plano y estático, tiene iluminaciones de bajo presupuesto, y montajes apresurados. Los intentos de crear atmósfera sobrenatural en cuanto a luces, sonidos extraños, y visiones, se quedan en lo superficial y predecible. Por otra parte, los giros argumentales, aunque quieren ser impactantes, se adivinan con facilidad desde el primer acto, y la resolución final deja más preguntas que respuestas, en el sentido de que no cierra del todo.
A nivel temático, El portal del más allá toca temas interesantes como el duelo, la culpa del superviviente, la desesperación por recuperar lo perdido y hasta la idea de que el contacto con el más allá puede ser tanto salvación como maldición, pero todo queda diluido por un ritmo irregular y decisiones narrativas cuestionables, que incluyen una escena de sexo que muchos críticos han calificado de gratuita y fuera de lugar, además de que no llega a ser una película con escenas sólidas en cuanto a lo sobrenatural, ya que queda en un limbo extraño, ni es de terror efectivo, ni un drama profundo.
En resumen, amigos, "El portal del más allá" es una película que recomendaría a fans de Nicolas Cage que lo pueden ver haciendo cualquier cosa, o a quienes disfrutan viendo cómo un actor de su calibre se lanza a proyectos de bajo presupuesto sin red de seguridad. Así que si quieres ver a Cage gritando, llorando y perdiendo el control en un contexto de espíritus y camionetas, esta cinta lo cumple sin pretensiones.
