My opinion about the movie "My super ex-girlfriend" // Mi opinión sobre la película "Mi super exnovia".

Hello, friends at @hive, and especially to the Movies&TvShows community. As always, I hope you and your family and friends are doing well. Today I’m stopping by to tell you about a movie I watched recently, titled “My Super Ex-Girlfriend,” released in 2006 and directed by Ivan Reitman. It’s a superhero comedy that blends romance, action, and absurd humor with a premise as simple as it is effective: What if your ex-girlfriend turned out to be a woman with superpowers—and decided to use them all against you?

Well, let me tell you—the story follows Matt Saunders, played by Luke Wilson, an ordinary architect who meets Jenny Johnson, played by Uma Thurman, an attractive, intelligent, and seemingly perfect woman. After a few dates, the relationship becomes intense—and, let’s face it, suffocating. When Matt tries to break up with her, he discovers that Jenny isn’t just a possessive girlfriend—she’s G-Girl, a superheroine with superhuman strength, the ability to fly, and the power to turn anyone’s life into a personal hell. From there, the film turns into a war of increasingly ridiculous and spectacular acts of revenge, as Matt tries to survive and, along the way, win over Hannah—played by Anna Faris—a much more level-headed coworker.

Uma Thurman is truly the heart and soul of the film; her portrayal of Jenny G-Girl is a delight of controlled exaggeration—she’s seductive, childish, menacing, and pathetic in equal measure. She manages to make the character not just a caricature of a former madwoman, but also a figure who is both tragic and comical at the same time. Luke Wilson, for his part, plays the typical average guy trapped in a nightmare with a naturalness that works well, though he’s sometimes overshadowed by Thurman’s energy. Anna Faris provides the necessary contrast, as her character Hannah is fresh, sarcastic, and genuinely appealing, which makes the audience root for her from the very beginning.

The screenplay, written by Don Payne, relies on situational humor. There are genuinely funny moments, such as the way G-Girl sabotages Matt’s professional and social life, the impossible chases, and the sequences in which the superheroine abuses her powers with an almost childish malice. Reitman, a veteran of comedies, knows how to handle the pacing and doesn’t let the film drag on too long. However, not everything works equally well. Some action sequences feel a bit clunky by today’s standards, and certain jokes come across as predictable or overly mean-spirited—which, depending on the viewer, may come across as annoying rather than funny.

Thematically, the film plays with the idea that absolute power corrupts, even when used in matters of the heart. Jenny isn’t a pure monster, as her loneliness and her need to be loved humanize her—though never entirely. That ambiguity gives the story a bit more depth than conventional romantic comedies usually have. At the same time, the film doesn’t set out to be profound; it’s light entertainment that relies on an absurd premise and charismatic performances.

Visually, the superheroine’s design is simple but effective, and the 2006 special effects get the job done without standing out. The soundtrack complements the comedic tone without being too overpowering. In my opinion, overall, “My Super Ex-Girlfriend” is neither a masterpiece nor a flawless comedy, but it is an entertaining film with strong characters and a premise that still feels original within the superhero genre today.

If you're looking for a movie to have a good time with—featuring a wild Uma Thurman and just enough absurdity to keep you from taking it too seriously—this comedy delivers on all fronts. It won’t reinvent the genre or leave you pondering for days, but it will definitely have you laughing out loud more than once and remind you why, sometimes, it’s best to end a relationship before the other person discovers they can fly. Without further ado, I’ll say goodbye until the next movie. Blessings.

Bendiciones.
