My opinion about the movie "Over Her Dead Body" // Mi opinión sobre la película "Sobre mi cadáver".

Today I’m stopping by to tell you about a 2008 film titled “Over Her Dead Body,” directed and written by Jeff Lowell. It’s a lighthearted romantic comedy that combines ghosts, postmortem jealousy, and the classic story of moving on after a loss. Starring Eva Longoria, Paul Rudd, and Lake Bell, the film aims to be fun, unpretentious entertainment, though it doesn’t always manage to shine with the spark its premise promises.

The story begins abruptly and in a tragicomic way, as Kate—played by Eva Longoria—a bride obsessed with the perfect details of her wedding, dies in an absurd manner when a giant ice sculpture falls on her. Her fiancé, Henry—played by Paul Rudd—a kind and somewhat clumsy veterinarian, is devastated. A year later, his sister Chloe, played by Lindsay Sloane, convinces him to visit a psychic, Ashley, played by Lake Bell, so she can supposedly contact Kate and give him permission to move on with his life. What starts as a farce gets complicated when Kate’s real ghost appears, furious and determined to sabotage any romance between her ex and the psychic.

The film plays with the physical humor and absurd situations typical of the jealous ghost subgenre, but with a much more American and contemporary tone. Eva Longoria clearly has a blast in the role of the vengeful ghost, as she screams, manipulates objects, and gets up to all sorts of supernatural mischief—which is entertaining in small doses, though it sometimes veers into over-the-top territory. Paul Rudd, as always, brings his natural charisma and comedic timing, making the good-natured widower trying to heal believable. Lake Bell is probably the best part of the film, as her Ashley is eccentric, vulnerable, and charming, and the chemistry between her and Rudd is genuine and warm.

Where the film falters is in its screenplay. Many jokes feel predictable, and the development of the central relationship moves at a forced pace. The subplot involving Ashley’s best friend, Jason Biggs—who harbors a secret—adds little and feels like filler. Lowell’s direction is functional, but lacking any notable visual personality; the film looks good, with bright cinematography typical of romantic comedies of the era, but it doesn’t stand out. However, despite its flaws, it works as an escapist comedy. It has genuinely funny moments, primarily in the interactions between Kate and Ashley, which are the highlights.

The film delivers a positive message about letting go of the past and opening your heart to love again, and it also features a cast that fully embraces the absurdity. It’s not a masterpiece, nor does it claim to be. It’s simply the kind of movie you pop in on a Sunday afternoon, expecting some easy laughs and a predictable—yet satisfying—ending. En el día de hoy paso por acá para hablarles de una película titulada "Sobre mi cadáver" o conocida en el inglés como "Over Her Dead Body" del los años 2008, la misma está dirigida y escrita por Jeff Lowell y es una comedia romántica ligera, que combina fantasmas, celos postmortem y además la clásica historia de seguir adelante después de una pérdida. Protagonizada por Eva Longoria, Paul Rudd y Lake Bell, la cinta busca ser un entretenimiento divertido y sin pretensiones, aunque no siempre logra brillar con la chispa que promete su premisa.

La historia comienza de forma abrupta y tragicómica, ya que Kate papel que desempeña Eva Longoria, que es una novia obsesionada con los detalles perfectos de su boda, muere de manera absurda cuando una escultura de hielo gigante cae sobre ella. Su prometido, Henry papel que desempeña Paul Rudd, un veterinario amable y algo torpe, queda devastado. Un año después, su hermana Chloe papel interpretado por Lindsay Sloane, lo convence de visitar a una médium, Ashley papel que realiza Lake Bell, para que supuestamente contacte a Kate y le dé permiso para seguir con su vida. Paul Rudd, como siempre, aporta su carisma natural y timing cómico, haciendo creíble al viudo bonachón que intenta sanar. Lake Bell es probablemente lo mejor de la cinta, ya que su Ashley es excéntrica, vulnerable y encantadora, y la química entre ella y Rudd es genuina y cálida.

Donde la película flaquea es en su guion. Muchas bromas se sienten predecibles y el desarrollo de la relación central avanza con rapidez forzada. La relación con el mejor amigo de Ashley Jason Biggs, que esconde un secreto, añade poco y parece relleno. La dirección de Lowell es funcional, pero sin personalidad visual destacable, la película se ve bien, ya que posee una fotografía luminosa, típica de las comedias románticas de la época, pero no destaca. Sin embargo, a pesar de sus defectos, cumple como comedia escapista. La misma tiene momentos genuinamente graciosos y fundamentalmente en las interacciones entre Kate y Ashley, que son lo más destacado.

La cinta nos muestra un mensaje positivo sobre dejar ir el pasado y aceptar el amor de nuevo, y además cuenta con un elenco que se entrega al disparate. No es una obra maestra ni pretende serlo. Es simplemente el tipo de película que uno pone un domingo por la tarde esperando risas fáciles y un final previsible, pero satisfactorio, así que en resumen, amigos, si buscas una comedia romántica sobrenatural ligera con buenos actores y sin grandes ambiciones, esta entrega es la ideal, ya que no reinventa el género, pero cumple con creces su objetivo de pasar un rato agradable.
