En el día de hoy paso por acá para hablarles de una película que estuve viendo una de estas madrugadas, la cual me impresionó muchísimos. Se trata de la película de cine terror "Primate" el reciente éxito dirigido por Johannes Roberts, la cual ha sorprendido a la crítica y al público por su mezcla de brutalidad visceral y nostalgia ochentera.
En una época donde el cine de terror a menudo se basa en metáforas sobre el trauma y la salud mental, "Primate" llega como un golpe seco en la cara. La trama de esta cinta es de una simplicidad casi agresiva, un chimpancé doméstico llamado Ben contrae la rabia y convierte una reunión de amigos en una mansión de Hawái, literalmente en una auténtica carnicería, dónde se esconde una de las experiencias más tensas y técnicamente impecables del año.
En esta cinta el director Johannes Roberts abandona las profundidades del océano para encerrarnos en una localización única, transformando al dulce Ben en una figura que recuerda más a un asesino que a un animal salvaje. Si bien es cierto que el guión no intenta reinventar la rueda y que algunos personajes secundarios son simples, más bien como "carne de cañón", la película acierta al no pretender ser algo que no es. No hay grandes lecciones morales ni giros pretenciosos, más bien es un ejercicio de supervivencia pura. Su secuencia de 89 minutos y se los digo porque lo viví, es un reloj suizo de ritmo que no permite distracciones, culminando en un tercer acto que redefine lo que entendemos por caos animal.
Amigos míos, "Primate" sin lugar a dudas es una carta de amor a las creature features de los años 80, pero con la crudeza técnica del cine contemporáneo. Es una película que entiende que el verdadero horror no siempre viene de lo sobrenatural, sino de la fuerza incontrolable de la naturaleza cuando se rompe el vínculo con lo doméstico. Esta es una película sangrienta, es estúpida en los momentos justos y es, por encima de todo, increíblemente entretenida, así que para mí en lo particular es una joya del terror moderno que te hará mirar a nuestros parientes evolutivos los primates, con un nuevo y justificado respeto.
