Scent of a Woman (titled Esencia de Mujer in Spain and Perfume de Mujer in Spanish America) is a 1992 American film directed by Martin Brest and starring Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell.
The screenplay adapts the novel Il buio e il miele (The Darkness and the Honey) by Giovanni Arpino and is also a remake of the film Perfume of Woman (Profumo di donna), directed by Dino Risi in 1974.

Movies are that part that leads us to recreate ourselves in the different situations and emotions that life presents us. Plots wrapped in romance, mystery, sadness, suspense, and even terror. Those dramas of life are recreated by those who make movies, wonderful creators who offer us the possibility of entertainment and escape from the hustle and bustle and worries of everyday life.
Although, as I always emphasize at the beginning of this kind of publication (this is my second of this kind), I am not an expert in this subject. I just like to leave my opinion about films that I think are great and that I believe, all or most of the film-loving public should see. On this occasion, I bring you a review of a film that even though it is not recent (1992), I found beautiful and sobering. Lately, I have cultivated the habit of watching at least one good movie at least once a week, when obligations allow it.
Generally, some of the people who cultivate this art of watching movies are oriented towards the most recent releases. In my case, it's the opposite. I love to watch old movies. Those that have messages from their plot and that, at the same time, display the quality of their actors, resulting in a beautiful work that delights the one who chooses them. In this search, I thought of one of my favorite actors, Al Pacino. I did some research about his filmography and that's how I came to the movie that I present to you today in this review with my personal opinion about it.
Scent of a Woman, a film released in 1992, and with which Al Pacino managed to win his first and only Oscar in such an important category as "Best Actor" in that year. And watching it, I could see why. I can only tell you that this movie is simply wonderful, from the framing of how the scripts are handled to Al Pacino's wonderful performance.

A boy belonging to a decorated school decides to take a weekend job taking care of a blind ex-colonel when it was the Thanksgiving holiday. At first glance, it might seem like an easy and simple job. However, everything turned out to be the opposite of this condition.
One of the things that left me shocked and that I can't help but highlight, is Al Pacino's performance as the former Colonel Frank Slade, as I honestly thought I wouldn't see anything better from him than his performance in The Godfather II. And I think I couldn't have been more wrong, a sublime performance, that's where you can see the acting level of someone when he has to play a role in which he has to go completely out of his comfort zone.
Pacino manages to do something out of the ordinary because in his performance he makes it seem as if he were blind. Normally in this type of performance is that the actor at some point falters and goes out of the role for a moment, however, this is not the case, since at no time I noticed any deviation. Of the film, I think that its scripts and moments are what makes it wonderful. That crossroads puts in the ambiguity that represents everyday life and the decision-making involved.
The fact that in life we will be presented with situations in which there will be two paths, the right one and the wrong one, and that is where we must see if our negligence will be above our integrity or if our selfishness will be more powerful than our duty. These are reflections or concerns that this film transmits to you. I am a person who loves emotional films and this one, with all those characteristics, definitely managed to hook me completely.
That is why I recommend it without a moment's hesitation. It seems to be a must-see movie if you haven't seen it. And if you have seen it, it's a must-see again. I think all of us have been in a similar situation at some point or may be in the future. So perhaps this movie will serve to clear our minds and remind us of the value of our principles above anything else, even if our life may be at stake.
Do not fail to watch it as many times as necessary. It is a gift of cinematography and an actor like few others. I hope I have been able to catch your attention in terms of generating the restlessness of wanting to enjoy it and assimilate all the beautiful content presented in it.

El guion adapta la novela Il buio e il miele (La oscuridad y la miel) de Giovanni Arpino y también es un remake de la película Perfume de mujer (Profumo di donna), dirigida por Dino Risi en 1974.

Las películas son esa parte que nos lleva a recrearnos en las diferentes situaciones y emociones que nos presenta la vida. Tramas envueltas en romance, misterio, tristezas, suspenso y hasta terror. Esos dramas de la vida que tienen a bien recrear los que hacen cine, maravillosos creadores que nos brindan una posibilidad de entretenimiento y escape de los ajetreos y preocupaciones de la vida diaria.
Aunque como siempre recalco al principio de este tipo de publicaciones (esta es mi segunda de este tipo), no soy experta en esta materia. Tan solo me gusta dejar mi opinión acerca de filmes que me parecen estupendos y que considero, todos o gran parte del público amante de este arte, deberían ver. En esta ocasión les traigo una reseña de una película que aún no siendo reciente (1992), me pareció hermosa y aleccionadora. Últimamente he cultivado el hábito de ver al menos una buena película aunque sea una vez en la semana, cuando las obligaciones lo permiten.
Por lo general, algunas de las personas que cultivan este arte de ver películas, se orientan hacia los estrenos más recientes. En mi caso, es todo lo contrario. Me encanta ver películas de vieja data. De esas que tienen mensajes desde su trama y que, a la vez, despliegan la calidad de sus actores, resultando en una bella obra que deleita al que tiene a bien escogerlas. En esa búsqueda, pensé en uno de mis actores favoritos, Al Pacino. Indagué un poco acerca de su filmografía y así fue como llegué a la película que les presento hoy en esta reseña con mi opinión personal acerca de la misma.
Scent of a Woman, una película estrenada en 1992, y con la cual Al Pacino logró ganar su primer y único Oscar a una categoría tan importante como lo es "Mejor Actor" en aquel año. Y vaya que viéndola, pude comprobar el por qué. Tan solo les puedo decir que simplemente esta película es maravillosa, desde el encuadre de cómo se llevan los guiones, hasta la maravillosa actuación de Al Pacino.

Un chico perteneciente a una escuela condecorada, decide tomar un trabajo de fin de semana cuidando a un ex coronel ciego, cuando era la fecha festiva del día de Acción de Gracias. A simple vista podía verse como un trabajo fácil y simple. Sin embargo, todo resulta literalmente lo opuesto a esta condición. Una de las cosas que me dejó impactada y que no puedo dejar de destacar, es la actuación de Al Pacino como el ex coronel Frank Slade, pues sinceramente creí que no vería algo mejor de él que su actuación en El Padrino II.
Y creo que no pude estar más equivocada, una sublime actuación, ahí es donde se puede comprobar el nivel actoral de alguien, cuando debe interpretar un papel en el que tiene que salirse por completo de su zona de confort. Pacino logra hacer algo fuera de serie, pues en su actuación hace ver como si en realidad fuera ciego. Lo normal en este tipo de actuaciones es que el actor en algún momento flaquee y se salga por un instante del papel, sin embargo este no es el caso, ya que en ningún momento noté ningún desvío.
De la película opino que sus guiones y momentos son los que la hacen maravillosa. Esa encrucijada que pone en la ambigüedad que representa la vida cotidiana y la toma de decisiones que competen. El hecho de que en la vida se nos presentarán situaciones en las que habrá dos caminos, el correcto y el equivocado, y que es ahí donde debemos ver si nuestra negligencia estará por encima de nuestra integridad o si nuestro egoísmo podrá más que nuestro deber.
Estas son reflexiones o inquietudes que te transmite este film. Soy una persona a la que le encantan las películas emotivas y esta, con todas esas características, definitivamente, logró engancharme por completo. Por eso la recomiendo sin dudarlo un instante. Me parece una película que es obligatorio ver si no la has visto. Y si la has visto, es una opción obligada a repetir.
Pienso que todos nosotros hemos estado en una situación similar en algún momento, o se nos puede presentar a futuro. Por ello, quizás ésta película sirva para aclarar la mente y recordar el valor de nuestros principios por encima de cualquier cosa, aún si nuestra vida pueda estar en juego.
No dejen de verla las veces que sea necesario. Es un regalo de la cinematografía y de un actor como pocos. Espero haber podido llamar su atención en cuanto a generar la inquietud de querer disfrutarla y asimilar todo el bonito contenido que en ella se nos presenta.

Esta es una película maravillosa y la actuación de Al Pacino, magistral. La escena bailando el tango de Gardel Por una cabeza, es inolvidable, su interpretación ahí es conmovedora. La emblemática escena de baile de Perfume de Mujer. inolvidable. Que bella estaba Gabrielle Anwar, me enamoro en esa secuencia. Creo que para las feministas extremistas, el personaje de Pacino seria considera un depredador del patriarcado, si están cancelando personajes de dibujos animados acusándolos de cosas sin sentido, no me extraña que luego dirijan sus misiles contra determinadas películas. También la acusarian de tener solo protagonistas blancos.
Una de mis pelis favoritas, aunque Pacino ya merecía el Oscar por anteriores películas, solo que no se lo habían dado. Aprovecharon esta que era mas políticamente correcta para la época.
Jajajaja las feministas odian a Pacino, ese actor también es genial y ese tipo de papeles le quedan bien, así como en El Padrino.
Una pelìcula hermosa desde todo punto de vista a mi parecer. No soy experta pero me enamorò a tal punto de que me atrevì a hacer mi segunda reseña en esta àrea jajaja. La vida se basa en equilibrio, los extremos siempre son malos. I didn't see this film until many years after its release and agree it was a good experience. It is kind of sad to see Pacino getting old but it happens to all of us!
The truth is that's why I recommended it in this review. I'm not an expert in the area of reviews but I was motivated by the fact that I admire Pacino as a great actor and in this movie he really did an extraordinary job.
