The film has some dialogues that touch the viewer's heartstrings, that first one that I put there is one of the most marked in my memory generating chills, because how many children during those difficult times for them will have been ignored by all and then remembered for their end? Beyond the fiction, the film marks a detestable reality that infested the streets during those years of yesteryear, and that we still live today. There is nothing that moves the foundations of the human being more than the lives of children

El film consta de unos diálogos que tocan la fibra sensible del televidente, esa primera que pongo allí es una de las que más se marcó en mi memoria generando escalofríos, porque ¿cuántos niños durante esas difíciles épocas para ellos habrán sido ignorados por todos y después recordados por su final? Más allá de la ficción, la película marca una detestable realidad que infestaba las calles durante aquellos años de antaño, y que hoy día aún vivimos. No hay nada que mueva más los cimientos del ser humano que la vida de los niños.

The graphic work of presentation and advertising was wonderful, marking very well the genre both in its cover and in its trailer, this creates the feeling that you will be trapped along with the rest, something very characteristic of the King family.

El trabajo gráfico de presentación y publicidad fue maravilloso, marcando muy bien el género tanto en su portada como en su tráiler, este crea la sensación de que quedarás atrapado junto al resto, algo muy característico de la familia King.

Undoubtedly what has left me the most flipped out but how tense it kept me, was the performance of Ethan Hawkes, that raw, sinister, sick and mortifying character that instills a constant fear to the viewer. I must add that I am a big fan of the horror genre, and it had been years since a film left me with that feeling of alarm at the end of it, it seems like a great breath of air among so many projects that can go straight to the trash, denoting the growth as a director that Derrickson has made during his career. An additional contribution is that Joe Hill is the born heir to that talent that his father has shown for years, there is no other writer that has instilled as much fear in me as Stephen King, but ultimately Hill seems to be on the right track.

Sin duda lo que más me ha dejado flipando pero de lo tensa que me mantuvo, fue la actuación de Ethan Hawkes, ese personaje crudo, siniestro, enfermo y que mortifica infunde un miedo constante al espectador. Debo agregar que soy muy fan del género del terror, y tenía años que una película no me dejaba esa sensación de alarma al terminarla, parece una gran bocanada de aire entre tantos proyectos que pueden ir directo a la basura, denotando el crecimiento como director que ha hecho Derrickson durante su carrera. Otro aporte adicional es que Joe Hill es el heredero nato de ese talento que su padre ha demostrado por años, no hay otro escritor que me haya infundido tanto miedo como Stephen King, pero en definitiva Hill parece estar en el camino correcto.

On the other hand, this film is not for those who consider themselves very sensitive, especially because it works with children and delicate subjects, but no doubt this production will enter among the top of the best.

Por otro lado, esta filmación no es para aquellos que se consideran muy sensibles, sobre todo porque se trabaja con niños y temas delicados, pero sin duda esta producción entrará entre el top de los mejores.

The central theme varies between different topics, although pedophilia and serial murder stand out, we also have other planes such as child abuse, bullying, domestic violence, police negligence, drugs and religion, all framed in good level to be remarkable at the time.

La temática central varía entre distintos temas, aunque destaca la pedofilia y el asesinato en serie, también tenemos otros planos como el abuso infantil, el bullying, la violencia intrafamiliar, la negligencia policial, las drogas y la religión, todo ello enmarcado en buen nivel para ser destacable en su momento.

The story follows closely two brothers who seem to have some inheritance from their mother in supernatural sensations; meanwhile, they are in the red zone of the constant disappearance of children, being close friends of the latest victims, yet, as it happened at the time, the attention and care of the little ones was not something that was kept paramount in homes. So it is not surprising when one of them ends up in the clutches of the one nicknamed "The Raptor", a psychotic patient who plays with the emotions and minds of his victims.

La historia sigue de cerca a dos hermanos que parecen tener alguna herencia de su madre en sensaciones sobrenaturales; mientras, ellos están en la zona roja de la desaparición constante de niños, siendo amigos cercanos de las últimas víctimas, aún así, cómo sucedía en esa época, la atención y el cuidado de los más pequeños no era algo que se mantuviera primordial en los hogares. The interesting thing here is carried out through those powers that both siblings seem to manifest, we have the girl: who has dreams that are detailed premonitions and for whom the police are interested in denoting that she knows things that no one should. And on the other hand, Finney, who in his kidnapping process has the ability to talk to the dead children at the hands of the kidnapper, who give him clues and advice on how to survive. This keeps the plot constantly moving forward and the viewer in agony-filled tension.

Lo interesante aquí se lleva a cabo a través de esos poderes que parecen manifestar ambos hermanos, tenemos a niña: quien tiene sueños que son premoniciones detalladas y por quién la policía se interesa al denotar que sabe cosas que nadie debería. Y por otro lado, a Finney, quien en su proceso de secuestro tiene la habilidad de poder hablar con los niños muertos ante las manos del raptor, que le dan pistas y consejos de cómo sobrevivir. Esto mantiene la trama en constante avance y al espectador en una tensión llena de agonía.

As each dead child communicates with Finney through that black phone that has no electricity, his sister Gwen does her best to find him. The pivotal role of both is what leads to the climax of the story in their constant efforts not to die. On the other hand, we have the "Raptor", who has such an amazing staging that makes you sit up straight, is undoubtedly Ethan Hawkes and his acting talent who even without showing his full face manages to make you tremble with his voice and movements.

Mientras cada niño muerto se comunica con Finney a través de ese teléfono negro que no tiene electricidad, su hermana Gwen hace todo lo posible para encontrarlo. El papel fundamental de ambos es lo que lleva al clímax de la historia en sus esfuerzos constantes de no morir. Por otro lado, tenemos al “Raptor”, quien tiene una puesta en escena tan apubullante que te hace sentarte derecho, es sin duda Ethan Hawkes y su talento actoral quien aún sin mostrar todo su rostro logra hacerte temblar con su voz y movimientos.

There is an excellent handling of characters, everyone contributes a little to the plot, even those who die, I would have liked a little more stories of the dead children, so I could have been efficiently affected by their respective deaths, but it was more a pity that they could not save them, than a real sadness in their losses. No doubt the final surprises at the climax make agony a state of mind.

Hay un excelente manejo de personajes, todos aportan un poco a la trama, hasta los que mueren, me fuera gustado un poco más de historias de los niños muertos, así podría haberme afectado con eficiencia sus respectivas muertes, pero fue más una lastima de que no pudieron salvarlos, que una verdadera tristeza en sus pérdidas. Sin duda, las sorpresas finales en pleno clímax hacen de la agonía un estado de ánimo.

Acting aside, here we have the real heroes of the film. The shot of each scene and the attention to detail, the sequence shots, the slight shaking at key moments and the editing of the colors to give that gloomy and mournful look is without a doubt very remarkable in the film.

Dejando la actuación de lado, aquí tenemos a los verdaderos héroes de la película. La toma de cada escena y la atención a los detalles, las toma secuencia, el leve temblor en momentos claves y la edición de los colores para dar ese aspecto tétrico y de pesar es sin duda muy destacable en el film.

The script leaves all its work exposed in the dialogues, the conversations between children, the discussions with the adults and the strange words to infer fear are very fundamental, all this leaves a mark with more strength thanks to the work of the soundtrack during the film, which made me clench my hands on more than one occasion. The cinematography is another job very well done, thanks to Brett Jutkiewiczy who with previous work on Stranger Things, that essence of the era could be appreciated with more enjoyment.

El guion deja todo su trabajo expuesto en los diálogos, las conversaciones entre niños, las discusiones con los adultos y las palabras extrañas para inferir miedo son muy fundamentales, todo ello deja marca con más fuerza gracias al trabajo de la banda sonora durante la película, que me hizo apretar las manos en más de una ocasión. La fotografía es otro trabajo muy bien realizado, gracias Brett Jutkiewiczy quien con un trabajo previo en Stranger Things, se pudo apreciar con más disfrute esa esencia de la época.

Derrickson is undoubtedly an expert in the genre who has given us many films that can enter the list of horror classics, but now with an excellent budget and a good producer like Jason Blum, they gave a bewitching result. Combining forces again with Ethan Hawkes as in Siniestro (2012), now Black Telephone is the apotheosis of his career. A villain that may be transcendental with the passage of time and a good staging of some children, this film is one of the best you can see in the horror genre.

Derrickson es sin duda un experto en el género que nos ha obsequiado muchas películas que pueden entrar en la lista de clásicos del terror, pero ahora con excelente presupuesto y un buen productor como lo es Jason Blum, dieron un resultado hechizante. Combinando fuerzas nuevamente con Ethan Hawkes cómo en Siniestro (2012), ahora Teléfono Negro es la apoteosis de su carrera. Un villano que quizás sea trascendental con el paso del tiempo y una buena puesta en escenas de unos niños, este film es de lo mejor que se puede ver dentro del género del terror.

When I saw the movie I didn't know that Joe Hill was the writer of the story, but I felt that tension that only one writer had produced in me: Stephen King, after an investigation, knowing that it is his own son made me feel chills, a family full of that talent to make you agonize with their characters and story, that's all I want. The production gave certain nods to that vibe that movies based on SK's bestsellers have had, that's why I ran to investigate, since as a faithful reader of the king of horror, I didn't remember a book of his with that essence beyond Misery or Doctor Dream. The result has been incredible.

Cuando vi la película no sabía que Joe Hill era el escritor de la historia, pero sentí esa tensión que solo un escritor me había producido: Stephen King, luego de una investigación, saber que es su propio hijo me hizo sentir escalofríos, una familia llena de ese talento de hacerte agonizar con sus personajes e historia, es todo lo que quiero. La producción dio ciertos guiños a esa vibra que han tenido las películas basadas de los bestseller de SK, por eso corrí a investigar, ya que como fiel lectora del rey del terror, no recordaba un libro suyo con aquella esencia más allá de Misery o Doctor sueño. El resultado ha sido increíble.

I managed to watch the movie thanks to @stypaternina and we were both very tense until after finishing it. It made us talk about the supernatural situations we sometimes live but don't believe and the effects of the same fear in the body, that's how the film left us, almost shaking.

Logré ver la película gracias a @stypaternina y ambos estuvimos muy tensos hasta después de terminarla. Nos hizo hablar sobre las situaciones sobrenaturales que a veces vivimos pero no creemos y los efectos del mismo miedo en el cuerpo, así nos dejó el film, casi temblando.

One of the lines that I liked the most I'm going to add, because I like that element of religion and skepticism. That mental critique and need to believe in something or someone and how in desperation of not finding answers we doubt accusing whatever it is if it is real or not is something very human and well captured in the girl character:

"Jesus, what the fuck? Seriously, what the fuck? I ask you for help and you give me these clues that mean nothing. And this morning I wake up without having dreamed anything? Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you? You let the Raptor take Finney, didn't you? And don't tell me you're not involved, because you sent me these dreams. Unless... Maybe you're not even real."

Una de las líneas que más me ha gustado la voy a agregar, porque ese elemento de religión y escepticismo me gusta. Esa crítica mental y necesidad de creer en algo o alguien y como en la desesperación de no encontrar respuestas dudamos acusando a lo que sea si es real o no es algo muy humano y bien plasmado en el personaje de niña:

«Jesús, ¿qué mierda? En serio, ¿qué mierda? Te pido ayuda y me das estas pistas que no significan nada. ¿Y esta mañana despierto sin haber soñado nada? En serio, ¿qué diablos te pasa? Dejas que el Raptor se lleve a Finney, ¿no? Y no me digas que no te involucras, porque me has mandado estos sueños. A menos que… Quizá ni siquiera eres real.»

And here comes something very important, we could say that God was there and helped, but why didn't he help the other children? Uh, those are the details that, although they seem small, tend to make you think too much.

Y es que allí viene algo muy importante, podríamos decir que Dios estuvo y ayudó, pero ¿por qué no ayudó a los demás niños? Uh, esas son los detalles que aunque parecen pequeño, suelen hacerte pensar de más.

In conclusion, the movie is a total blast, very good, and highly recommended. If you still don't know about it, run to see it, if you have already seen it I would like to read your opinion about it.
