Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

Happy New Year CineTV peeps I hope you're all having a wonderful commencement to the 2023 rotation around the sun. Not many things are promised in this life but one thing is certain, if you make it around you'll continue to do so until you no longer do. That and the only two things that are actually a certainty in life are death and taxes.

But today we're heading into some decent films that I didn't think were going to be actually any.... well decent. I know that there is a previous Glass Onion film but I never watched it it didn't appear to be my thing. But I did venture into the follow up film which was surprisingly good and has me wondering if I should provide some time to watch the first one.

If I have to be remotely honest the only reason why I flicked the switch to play for this film is because it featured former wrestling champion turned actor Dave Bautista. Not as iconic as Dwayne the Rock Johnson but on a success scale he is doing very well in the film industry.

Dave brings an added presence to films that he is in and his performances are out of this world unlike The Rock who often only selects films where he is the super hero and full of might. Dave isn't afraid to shy away from the machoism and plays a more comedic hero often still the strong man but a more approachable, no cares given, I am here to have fun style.

The film also had some other awesome additions like Edward Norton, Drew Barrymore and former actors who have previously played in major roles and given this was a comedy I got the hint that it was going to be a lot of fun to watch and wasn't particularly too interested in the plot of the film.

There was a line in it that stuck out where Drew's character is asked why she attends the event and she responds because she's a middle aged woman in a front facing role. This further builds on the attitude towards a younger actress who is still in her prime for looks.

A notoriously troubling issue Hollywood faces in not employed women once they are passed a certain age.

This was a controversial topic this year when the much anticipated sequel to Top Gun was launched and Maverick's love interest was completely removed a new one was added. There were plenty of allegations flying around but a core one was from the actress herself who said she was snubbed for being too old and fat.

So how was the film?

The film was delighting to say the least with a plot twist unforeseen and I am not sure if it was because I wasn't following it entirely but just enjoying the film itself. But the writers did a fabulous job on the character development, plot twists and delivery of the final.

It had a wonderful blend of murder mystery, who done it and wow! did not see that coming!

If you're looking for a film to watch than I wouldn't go past Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery because it will leave you both in stitches and blown away.

Great film!

I enjoyed the movie! I've seen the other Knives out movie. I enjoyed that too, I think that was four yrs ago or so. If to compare them, I dont know which one I've liked most.

P.S. I also think Dave Bautista is great in movies. I enjoyed his movies so far!

I really think you should do! Its a good watch! At least I loved the movie but you know how it is: what goes for me may not go for you. Still, I think its a movie worth watching especially if you saw this one too.

I saw the trailer a while ago and forgot about it. It seemed funny and for those not too serious moments, where one just needs to enjoy the movie: not think too hard about it.

Just this week I mentioned this to my husband, when he pointed out Bollywood movies only recycling male actors with younger actresses and the "older" women not returning or returning in smaller/more mature roles. I said that the same is happening in Hollywood, with Cruise, Clooney, etc. being a "commodity" with younger actresses.

That's what I like about the roles Dave "picks", because it's so different from what he portrayed in the rings of WWE, while Dwayne keeps picking the same role he's known for.
