Movie Review: Everything Everywhere All At Once

Ok OK, So I am going to straight up announce a bit of a conflict of interest that may make this review totally bias and that's the fact that I grew up in the western suburbs of Melbourne which had a large Chinese influence. A lot of my friends were and still are Chinese and oh man this film hit so many of those stereotypes in a number of scenes.

Also the generational conflict although that one is probably applicable to a number of different backgrounds but it is still so epically awesome to have watched and I really enjoyed the trip down memory lane.

Few things missing but I'll wait for the second film if there is a second film, not to sure it left it open for a follow up but I would 100% go back for round 2 with this killer knockout film.

Movie Plot

So what's the movie about? well it takes a new twist to the metaverse we have all come to learn through MCU and the DC extended universes although I don't believe this film is tied to any of the franchises.

In it our main character Evelyn who migrated to America finds herself confronted with a battle across universes against a big bad evil and instead of moving around it she can transfer her consciousness or tap into skill sets of other versions of herself.

This makes for some epically awesome film scenes and later on like the bad guy of the series there appears to be an additional power where she can not only change herself but can change the world around her.

The film has some really epic fight scenes which is probably just as stereotypical of Chinese films but the acting is superb and the chorography is on point as many of our hero's and villains battle it out.

There is quite a lot of dark humor involved as dildos and butt plugs go flying around and take a few people out and even a few pixelated moments playing homage to porn genre although that is more Korea rather than China.

Overall the film packs a punch and delivers a greater metaverse experience than what Marvel has been able to showcase with quirkier moments and even some universes that were lightly touched on.

Here we get to see an ever expanding world with limitless possibilities and it all gets brought back down to one factor, love. Yes the entire film is a battle for love and what could have been.

The film won't just have you laughing in your seats but as the curtains draw close to the end and the plot comes to a grand finale your heart strings will randomly be pulled into the emotional roller coaster you didn't even realise you were riding.

There hasn't been a film like this for quite some time and I am glad that someone out there has done something original even though it stole a concept from some popular franchises, it just goes to show the smaller guys can do it just as good!
