Darby and the dead (2022) Movie review.

Ever went for a job interview and you are told that the only available post is to be an agent for “deados”? Yep, you read it right. Your job description would be acting as a middle man for seemingly dead people who have longing ties to earth and wish to finalize it before they depart to the afterlife.

Hmm, if you think that sounds wierd then you are in for a roller coaster ride with me as I take you on this fantasy movie I recently watched titled Darby and the dead.

The movie plot revolves around the setting of high schoolers along with all their shenanigans and their teenage exuberance. We are introduced to the star of the show Darby who could see dead people after a near death experience on a beach which also resulted in the death of her mum.

Fast forward to college and Darby reconnects with her long time childhood friend Capri who is now the belle of her school. By a twist of fate, Capri dies by electrocution and the whole school is in shock except for Darby who gets haunted by Capri's ghost everywhere.

Darby tries to negotiate with Capri's ghost to move on without success until a compromise is reached to throw a sweet seventeen party in honour of Capri.

Things take a downward turn when Capri the ghost starts getting jealous of Darby in the spotlight. After a lot of twists and turns, both girls finally found peace and Capri leaves to the afterlife …..in style.

My Review

I really liked the whole plot with its twists and turns and how things finally worked out for Darby “the hermit crab” who would rather hide away than make friends in school.

I also liked the sense of a higher purpose that Darby displayed in helping wandering souls find peace and most importantly I like how the movie had non- sexual relationships which is hard in this day and age.

I disliked nothing about the movie and I'm giving it a good 3.5 stars out of 5 for its fluidity and slow humour.
