Hello CINETV, Here Is GIGLI.

One of the worst films I have ever seen was Gigli. It was the actor and actress who originally drew my attention, which was how I know I would have liked it. Both of them were among my favourites, and I had high hopes for the film, but it has received a rotten-toms rating.

The movie is about Larry Gigli, a gangster from Los Angeles, is not nearly as tough as he attempts to come across. He also gets impatient quickly when people pronounce his last name wrong. Starkman, a New York-based criminal lord, is given the task of kidnapping Brian, the mentally challenged younger brother of a powerful prosecutor in order to keep him out of jail.

Larry is able to convince Brian to go out with him by pledging to take him "to the Baywatch," which ends up being just the beach. Because Louis, the man who provided the order for the kidnapping, doesn't trust Larry to handle the job successfully, so he appoints a woman by the name of Ricki to take control.

Ben Affleck plays Larry Gigli, Jennifer Lopez plays Ricki, and Justin Bartha plays Brian in this American romantic comedy crime (pronounced "Gee-lee"). Al Pacino and Christopher Walken make cameo appearances.

This movie was torn between trying to be a romantic comedy or a serious crime movie. Although Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez were a real-life couple at the time the movie was being shot, there is no chemistry between them. It's just doesn't seem right between both of them.

The romance between Larry and Ricki obstructs the plot, making it monotonous and tedious. Al Pacino and Christopher Walken's only functions in the movie are to criticize the characters' stupidity since they are so uninteresting or dull.

What more worst was, the mentally of the disabled person's and his offensive stereotypical behaviour. Another offensive stereotype is Ricki's sexual orientation changing from lesbian to completely straight after falling in love with Larry almost immediately.
And the film characters spend majority of their time in the apartment or driving around.

Gigli was originally intended to be a black comedy rather than a romantic comedy, but the director rapidly changed the script due to media interest in the "Bennifer" relationship, which ultimately ruined the movie. Martin Brest's career as a director was irreparably damaged by the rewrites because of the movie.

But somehow the film was a celebrity buzz but its also the most despised film of 2003. Even though the movie only 121 minutes long, the film feels longer than that. What's worse is some of the scenes were drag on for too long.

I find it annoying to hear Larry correcting people about his last name when it was pronounced incorrectly. Gigli never aspired to be anything more than a romantic comedy, which is all a movie needs to be considered a historical disaster. I must say it was actually a terrible romantic comedy.

So the conclusion here is, if the director and the storyline are bad, a real-life couple might not be good enough in the film. The romantic comedy doesn't fit this movie at all, even I tried so hard to adapt and went through the movie until the end, I still don't understand what really went wrong with this movie. I guess,it's not a good year for "Bennifer" I must say.

Affleck has starred in quite a few movies that have bombed badly.

Exactly. He is no longer my favourite. Oh well. Such a gifted young dude. To make himself stand out, he simply needs the perfect movie and character.

I don't like romantic comedies very much and I don't like comedies either, only a few I enjoy watching, but I had never heard of this movie, I guess it was so bad that I didn't even hear it mentioned 🤭 Thanks for sharing your review so I would never see it hehe

I watched it because I liked the actors and actresses. To be honest, I'm not a fan of romantic comedies.
Yay! You are not going to waste your 121 minutes. 🤣
