Binge-Worthy Brilliance: "Goodnews", "Omniscient Reader" and "Love Untangled" Review
Last two weeks was great, I had so many series to see but I decided to pause for a treat with the recent k-movies I've been made to download. Each of them, I downloaded for one reason or the other and I finally got to see them. Couldn't pick one for a single review so I thought to share a triple review focusing on each at my own pace.
The three movies have almost nothing in common with their storylines but they were all released in the same year and are available on Netflix which I think it's worth mentioning. I knew I was in for a good treat with each of them and I'm here to review all of them because I was right.
"Goodnews" - A political thriller, disaster, action and dark comedy crime drama, released in 2025.
The first on the least but I can't say it's my favourite because I've got so many on my favourite list lol. **"Goodnews" is a thriller based on a real events starred by Sul Kyung-gu and Hong Kyung, who played as "Nobody" and "Go-myung" in a 1970s covert team that are selected to land a hijacked plane by any means necessary.
The story is played out in south Korea but considering the Japanese invasion that hijacked a plane with South Koreans, their requests to make the plane land in North Korea, the team goes on a big move to make South Korea look like North Korea. It's the highlight of the movie that I think it's about what happened in real life.
To be honest, I had thought it would be a boring movie when it started so I kinda understand the low rating it's getting in some movie sites. But for those who have seen it from start to finish, understand what the story is about and if like me, appreciate the lead actor Hong Kyung and the effort he put into his role... This movie is superb.
Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy - A Fantasy based survival and adventure, released in 2025.
One of the movies I've been so excited waiting for it's release but less than expectedly excited to see. "Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy" is a fantasy movie, an adaptation of a manwha. The movie is starred by Ahn Hyo-seop, Chae Soo-bin and Lee Min-ho alongside three others as the main characters. Tell you, the cast is the only great thing about this movie I waited so long for.
I'm not a fan of novels and manwha but I could tell how too easily they tried to portray a charcter from a book in real life and it kinda messes up the excitement in it. The story is about an office worker whose favourite novel comes true and he has to survive an apocalyptic story as the only one who read it. He works together with others.
Honestly, I was excited to see this movie because it has "Lee Min-ho" in it and it's been so long I saw any of his series, couldn't see his recent drama because of the boring storyline. It was a must-see for me when I saw that Ahn Hyo-seop was also starring in it. Well, all that excited didn't stay till the end of the movie but still was good.
Love Untangled - A feel good Coming-of-age, Romantic comedy drama, released in 2025.
Talk of a refreshing and lovely storyline, it's definitely this movie. I saw it last and so I'm reviewing it last, I could almost say it's my favourite from this list but the first movie won't let me say so lol. "Love Untangled" as the title says it's a about a girl who has very curly hair and plans to straighten it before her love confession.
The movie is starred by Gong Young, Shin Eun-soo and Cha Woo-min, all are actors I'm familiar with but not very much in the roles they took up in this storyline. So it was refreshing to see them, especially our Shin Eun-soo talking fine and even too loudly in this movie compared to her role as a dumb in the series "Twinkling Watermelon".
It's just a less than 2 hour movie but everything seemed well paced with no rush like many movies do, I totally love the slow-burn romance and beautiful chemistry between the male and female lead. The comedy is good but over all, the movie is only a must watch for who wouldn't mind too girly things, too cliche words or actions and to anyone who wants something just light.
