When Love Meets Life's Final Moments: "Our Movie" Review

How do one smile with a teary eye for a movie?

The characters, the act, the music, the story, the ending... I couldn't stop feeling too much of the emotions portrayed in them. If you ask me, I think I've just seen one more masterpiece among other Korean masterpieces. It's a series I rushed to see but was not ready for what the story has for me.

The series have been sitting in my watchlist for quite a while now and after the last episode, I began to wonder why it took me that long to see it. Even now, I wish I could erase the memory of the story so I can see it all over again. The series is a must-watch for everyone to wake up our emotions regarding life and life's last moments.

"Our Movie" is a 12 episode Korean series released in 2025 starring Namgoong Min (from "My Dearest") and Jeon Yeo-been (from "Vincenzo") with other notable supporting characters like Kwon Hae-hyo. The series is based on a sad love story between a dying patient/actress and a depressed movie director.

Lee Je-ha, a movie director in a slump decided to work on his second movie five years after his father's big moments as a master movie director. To learn about how the movie should be portrayed better, he meets Lee Da-eum, a terminally ill patient for guidance. Da-eum shared some advice and became interested in the script.

Their first meeting as just two humans was a bit hilarious, it's funny how I couldn't even laugh much watching this series even when they tried to give some funny moments. Maybe it was to ease the tension but it failed for me, the emotions were too all over the story for a laugh but I smiled a lot. Their second meeting was epic.

I had teary eyes watching Lee Da-eum introduce herself as the terminally ill patient Lee Je-ha has been looking for, she even had a big smile on her face as she introduced herself, it was a sad moment but somehow, viewers are made to cheer her on and be happy for the fact that she is at least alive and spreading happiness to others.

Another scene that lives rent free in my head from this series is where Lee Je-ha accepts his feelings for Lee Da-eum even though he is aware she is dying soon. He used the words "I keep forgetting you're dying, I love you but I feel like I shouldn't" and that led to them appreciating the time they have together more. Really emotional.

There were epic scenes that had me in real tears and the top scene for me has to be where all those working on the movie she acts in, came back together to finish the movie with her after learning of her illness which was first hidden from them. Lee Da-eum cried so much begging that she doesn't want to die but life had it's plans.

"Our Movie" is a tearjerker that may come off as boring for some viewers but it is an art masterpiece especially with the movie being created inside the story. It felt like I was seeing two movies at the same time and they didn't make it seem lacking in anyway. Also, I became a fan of Namgoong Min and his acting style. I'll be seeing his most popular series "My Dearest" soon because I couldn't get enough his acting. Over all, this series is a good one, rating it 8.5/10.

The truth is that I had no idea about this series, but just by reading your review I already have a feeling that it is one of those that leaves your heart crushed and your eyes swollen. You have totally convinced me, although I will have to choose the right time to watch it because it seems that you need tissues and a lot of mental strength to endure those 12 episodes. Thanks for the recommendation (and for the warning that I'm going to cry)!
