Con la salida al cine de la segunda parte de esta historia, me propuse a ponerme en contexto antes de ir a verla, aunque tal vez eso sea innecesario, pues estas películas para toda la familia, nunca tienen un contexto o una historia tan complicada detrás. Happy es un jugador de hockey, que contaba con la pasión y la agresividad para poder sobresalir, pero le faltaba algo muy importante, el talento, por lo que un día al verse mal económicamente, y a punto de perder la casa de su crianza, se interesa por el golf, como una salida para hacer bastante dinero.

With the release of the second part of this story, I decided to put myself in context before going to see it, although perhaps that's unnecessary, since these family-friendly movies never have such a complicated context or story behind them. Happy is a hockey player who had the passion and aggression to excel, but lacked something very important: talent. So one day, finding himself in a difficult financial situation and on the verge of losing the home he grew up in, he became interested in golf as a way to make some serious money.

Resulta ser un excepcional golfista con sus tiros largos, que fácilmente pasaban las 400 yardas, algo muy complicado para cualquier golfista profesional, que como mucho pasan las 300 yardas sin problemas, pero cuando se trataban de tiros cortos, que necesitan más técnica y precisión, fallaba irremediablemente, lo que ocasionaba que respondiera de manera agresiva, montando un espectáculo de malas palabras, golpes y violencia. En un deporte tan elitesco como golf, Happy se transformó en una celebridad, subiendo los ratings y llamando a un público diferente del que estamos acostumbrados, un poco más vociferantes podríamos decir, jajaja.

En el clímax de la historia, debe competir contra Shooter McGavin, uno de los mejores golfistas del momento, y alguien quien desprecia a Happy por lo que representa para el golf, quien, en un acto de pura maldad, compra la casa de su abuela y se la ofrece, con la condición de que se retire del deporte. Gilmore se toma en serio las cosas por esta provocación, lo que lo hace entrenar y mejorar su tiro corto con quien sería su mentor, Chubbs, viendo también otras subtramas como a Ben Stiller como un explotador de ancianos, o la pelea contra el caimán que le quitó la mano a Chubbs, acabando así su carrera.

At the climax of the story, he must compete against Shooter McGavin, one of the best golfers of the moment, and someone who despises Happy for what he represents to golf, who, in an act of pure evil, buys his grandmother's house and offers it to him, on the condition that he retires from the sport. Gilmore takes things seriously due to this provocation, which leads him to train and improve his short drive with his future mentor, Chubbs, also seeing other subplots such as Ben Stiller as an exploiter of the elderly, or the fight against the alligator that took Chubbs's hand, thus ending his career.

Para muchos puristas de este deporte, me imaginó que ver este película debe ser un insulto, pero justo recuerdo por la década de los 90's que había un golfista muy fuera de lo normal, John Daly, quien con su ropa extravagante, su actitud desafiante, sus constantes resacas, y la caradura para cargar una caja de cigarrillos en el bolsillo, lo hicieron un personaje recordable, así como que fue capaz de ganar en un torneo al mismísimo Tiger Woods en su prime. No creo que se hayan inspirado del todo en ese deportista, el personaje de Happy realmente es alguien muy bueno, con problemas de ira, pero que al final del día solo intenta hacer el bien, y eso hace que conecte fácilmente con la gente.

For many purists of this sport, I imagine that watching this movie must be an insult, but I just remember from the 90's there was a very unusual golfer, John Daly, who with his extravagant clothes, his defiant attitude, his constant hangovers, and the nerve to carry a pack of cigarettes in his pocket, made him a memorable character, as well as being able to beat Tiger Woods in a tournament in his prime. I don't think they were entirely inspired by that athlete, the character of Happy is really someone very good, with anger issues, but at the end of the day he only tries to do good, and that makes him easily connect with people.

En cuanto a las actuaciones, todos estuvieron muy bien, es protagonista es muy querible y principal basa de humor, Julie Bowen lo hace muy bien como el interés romántico y logra desarrollar bien a su personaje, mientras que Christopher McDonald hace a un excelente villano, Shooter McGavin, quien maneja un humor más exagerado, y antogoniza muy bien, ya que al final del día, él busca preservar la esencia del deporte. Los secundarios también consiguen desarrollarse y resaltan sobre todo Bob Baker, intrepretándose a sí mismo en una pelea con Happy, y Carl Wheaters como Chubbs, el mentor y entrenador.

As for the acting, everyone was very good. The lead character is very likeable and provides the main source of humor. Julie Bowen does very well as the romantic interest and manages to develop her character well. Christopher McDonald makes an excellent villain, Shooter McGavin, who handles a more exaggerated humor and anthogonizes very well, since at the end of the day, he seeks to preserve the essence of the sport. The supporting cast also manages to develop, with Bob Baker, playing himself in a fight with Happy, and Carl Wheaters as Chubbs, the mentor and coach.

Para ser una película cómica de Adam Sandler no me pareció tan burda, hay que agradecer que tuvo un pasado donde no todos los chistes iban acompañados de una flatulencia, aunque al parecer, desde sus inicios, la comedia física siempre fue uno de sus fuertes, porque aquí fue bien utilizada. Otra cosa que me llamó la atención, es que desde la primera cinta vemos "la fórmula Sandler", es decir, un nombre que le di a la construcción de todas sus historias, donde hay un personaje femenino muy fuera de su liga que termina cediendo a sus encantos, y una complicación o problema a la mitad de la narración, que termina siendo solucionada al final.

For an Adam Sandler comedy, it didn't strike me as too crude. Thankfully, he had a history where not every joke was accompanied by farts, although apparently, from the beginning, physical comedy was always one of his strong suits, because it was utilized well here. Another thing that caught my attention is that from the very first film, we see "the Sandler formula," a name I gave to the construction of all his stories, where there's a female character way out of his league who ends up succumbing to his charms, and a complication or problem midway through the narrative that ends up being resolved at the end.

En conclusión, pese al humor tan soso y exagerado de Adam Sandler, es una película que ha envejecido bien en mi opinión, no es la mejor comedia de los 90's, pero es disfrutable, y demuestra de lo que es capaz el actor americano cuando no se centra solo en flatulencias, pues está fue la primera que dirigió y escribió. Aunque se que no voy a necesitar contexto para ver la segunda parte, que he escuchado bastante de mis conocidos por su clasificación para toda la familia, ahora me siento más cómodo para ir a verla, y próximamente les traeré mi pensar de la continuación a esta historia.

In conclusion, despite Adam Sandler's bland and exaggerated humor, it is a movie that has aged well in my opinion, it is not the best comedy of the 90's, but it is enjoyable, and shows what the American actor is capable of when he does not focus only on farts, since this was the first one he directed and wrote. Although I know that I will not need context to see the second part, which I have heard a lot from my acquaintances because of its family rating, now I feel more comfortable to go see it, and soon I will bring you my thoughts on the continuation of this story.
